There are 3 legit prospects available at 2, and the Jets are bound to like at least one of them a lot. If the Jets really don’t like any, trade back but it would be shocking if they weren’t all in on at least 1. Historically Douglas has liked big arm players so keep an eye on that.

I agree but a few things...

-we aren’t getting a 1 for Darnold and a low round pick.

-the new coach would probably assume one of the three first rounders is spent on a QB

-this is all under the assumption that actual talent evaluators (as opposed to guys on a fan message board) don’t think Wilson, Fields, Lance are going to be good... and I don’t think that will be the case with most talent evaluators.

We are still an incredibly attractive spot, even without the first pick. I do think we could have gotten the top candidate if we secured the pick but here are the bright spots:

    1) Cap Space: the only opening with more cap space is the Jags, they are the best spot by far. Besides that, all the other teams have like 50 mil or more less than we do and we still can make moves to add cap!
    2) Draft Capital: We have the highest and most picks by far, again Jacksonville has us beat there
    3) Established and well respected front office
    4) We already have a young QB we can try to salvage or trade (I'm hoping trade), but at least we have an asset

I would say we are the 2nd or 3rd best opening out of the ones already opened or might become open. Jacksonville is very attractive and you get to live in a small city in FL. Chargers would be close, but they don't have as much cap as we do. I think Texans are less desirable--barely any cap, no draft capital and weird front office situation right now.

    All true.

The Texans are in Texas though and a head coaching position in Texas is worth probably twice what it is on the baseline anywhere else. Football is a religion in Texas.

This is the conundrum, JD has holes to fill, sometimes it’s really not about quantity, it’s about quality, I really think TL is the only QB worth taking at the top of the draft.

Once he is drafted JD can only choose from maybe 3 elite day one starters.

Is Chase even in the same category as Jeudy and Lamb were?

I don’t think it’s true that TL is the only worthy QB. But just look at the 49ers. They drafted good players (Solomon Thomas, Nick Bosa) and still couldn’t win the SB and here they are with a good coach and still in need of a QB. Imagine if they had just taken Watson or Mahomes instead of ignoring the most important position on the team?

I'd say he is. Good hands, speed, route running. The biggest knocks on him are he isn't a burner, not a dynamic athlete, and sat out this season. None are major issues IMO. He's not the can't miss prospect that Megatron and Julio Jones were, but he's not too far below that level, which is where Jeudy and Lamb were as prospects.

I think Chase is rated higher then any WR in the last draft.

So your opinion is to simply not use our pick on Sewell under any circumstances. Not only for budget reasons but talent and team building reasons as well.

They made it to the SB, their QB helped them take the lead and even I thought they were going to win it.

You think Jimmy G is done and will never lead them back?

Yes, I'd absolutely love it. Though he did turn our interview down back then.

Think most draft analysts said he would've been WR1 last year

So he’s worthy of a second overall pick?

I think he’s shown he can’t really do it without a loaded roster, and you can’t maintain that level of roster. You have ebbs and flows even as the best run team and you need the QB to lift you up. I think they will attempt to move on.

This off season is going to be hard work for Joe. That #2 brings so many more questions than #1.

First things first. Find the coach JD wants, pay him what he wants and figure out what you both want to do moving forward.

Once you know what you want to do with the QB either Sam/#2/FA/Trade, this off-season starts coming together.

Next few months is JDs New York Jets moving forward. I hope he nails it for everyone's sake.

I think that would be a luxury pick. I do not believe it would be in the best interest of the franchise to go that route. In part due to it being a deep WR again, and in part because I don’t think there’s really any option outside of QB with #2 overall.

Gents and Gals, There is a poster on another site that has access to sources inside NYJ. I'll provide the gist for you: JD loves swell... JD likes Sam and believes he can be salvaged with more weapons, better OL and of course a better coaching staff - in addition, this poster also stated that other NFL sources think of AG: (Obviously Gase was discussed and they could not stress enough how awful he is scheme-wise. What he does is not “QB friendly” by any stretch of the imagination. From the limitations on audibles (QB sneak-gate was a big example of this) all the way to route combinations. The guy just doesn’t understand how to help his players, particularly his signal caller.) The one downer - for me - was the mention of M Lewis as a potential HC replacement - How about Smit OC of Tenn?

Anyway wanted to share it and the fact I read toady AG will be fired on B-Monday...hooray!

    At this point, no.

edit: I think it's very rare for a non QB/LT/Edge to be worth the 2nd overall pick.
