I couldn’t agree more ..before we throw the baby out with the bathwater I would like to see if a different coach could get anything more out of Sam... I would be fine with keeping Sam on the roster and drafting a quarterback... I vote for Wilson ..fields I don’t like at all
Nah, Darnold sucked today... He did turn it over. The referees were just terrible. He fumbled on that strip sack by Garrett. If it was called correctly its a fumble and 6 points the other way and probably a loss. Also, Darnold got lucky and should've been intercepted at least one other time but the Browns guy dropped it. And lastly, the Jets strip sack Mayfield, they have a 4 point lead and the ball at the 15 yard line, 1st and 10. An average QB takes the ball and wins it right there.
What about Morgan? He was drafted for a reason. IMO there is no room for Sam next year. It would be Wilson and Morgan, plus maybe Mike White or someone else to hold the clipboard. I'd trade Sam for what I could get.
These anti-Sam takes on the board are embarrassing for our fan base. Maybe it is because we lost Lawrence, but half of you guys may just want to cheer for another team. I enjoyed today's game and thought Sam played pretty well. A few mistakes here and there, but overall a solid performance. 175 yards, 2 touchdowns, 0 interceptions or turnovers. Managed the game well. Not sure what you guys expected from a (1-13) football team.
I think the expectation was to be 0-15 right about now. Same old Jets winning meaningless end of season games to fuck them up for the future. So I'm sorry that I am not rah rah rah over Sam's average performance yesterday. I do believe he can make it somewhere given a season off to relearn but I can't see it being the Jets but I guess we need to know the next coach before those decisions are made.
The Sam takes are absolutely not embarrassing. Seriously, what do you see in Sam? He is 3 years in. He is proving to not be durable, has bad footwork, makes bad decisions, and look at his stats when they win. They are thoroughly mediocre. His ceiling is middle-of-the-road quarterback at best. He is constantly ranked amongst the worst in the NFL. You can make excuse after excuse after excuse but he never steps up in a big spot. I just don't know what you see in him or what you expect other Jets fans to see in him at this point.
Too late. Firing coaches mid-season has been a practice in the NFL for decades. It's meaningless and far from a precedent.
They're talking like players and coaches, not like General Managers who need to write the checks. Jets can have Darnold on a new contract with fewer guarantees and a lot less money.
I will note here that even late in the fourth quarter the Jets were getting plays off with 10 - 15 seconds on the play clock. That's how well Gase has "whispered."
Inaccurate, deer in the head lights, bad reads, slow reactions, not a good leader, have no confidence he can win a game on his own, rinse and repeat, 3 years of this is enough, I keep comparing him to Mark Sanchez but Sanchez was better
The only thing that is embarrassing is Sam's play. He wasn't asked to do anything yesterday. He was throwing to wide open guys on broken coverage by Cleveland. How many times do we have to watch him run out of bounds for a loss when he can just flick the ball out of bounds?
I’m not in the “Keep Darnold” camp, but I recognize that it’s an option on the table. But saying Sanchez was better is a bad take to me. Sanchez was a game manager at best with a Super Bowl caliber team and at worst he missed check downs. Sam doesn’t miss checkdowns. Which means JD is going to have to surround him with Super Bowl caliber talent if we keep him. I believe JD can do that. The question is, is there a better alternative than going that route?
Sam won a lot more games for us than Darnold ever did. Does Darnold have more upside? I thought so last season, no I am not so sure.
Yes. Keep swinging at the QB position until you get it. Screw having a QB that is in the 10-15 range when everything else needs to be perfect. Give me the QB that can be in the 10-15 range while the rest of the team is dogshit. It's starting to look like Sam needs everything else around him to be flawless. At some point we need to stop pointing the finger at the OL, the weapons, the coach (even though the coach does suck), and everything else and look at the guy under center.
Bills did an amazing job developing and building around Allen. Which really further illustrates the importance of where rather than who. Trevor may be the exception we’ll see but Fields, Wilson, Lance are all very talented prospects and which one becomes the best depends on a variety of factors but the most important one just may be where they are drafted.
