He straight up lived up to the hype of going for the knockout blow! It seemed like after the hit on Coles, Our D woke up and was looking to lay some lumber on some fish. Did welker even come back in the game after that monstrous hit?
Yah I noticed it also, you could tell the D was fired up after that hit, and this isnt the first time Smith has laid wood on somebody, but this time It was so fresh and so clean. Welker just gets on my nerves also, he gets a 1st down and hes screaming and acting a fool as if he just got in field position for winning kick in the superbowl. Good hit eric.
I didn't think it was a great hit, the ball was already out so it's not like he knocked it out. the 2 hits of the night came from dolphins although both were illegal hits and should have been flagged. They led w/ their helmets.
If he was able to hang onto the ball until Smith got there he would have lost it after Smith's hit. There was no way Welker was coming down with the ball either way. I was thinking the same thing about the dolphins two hits. Especially the on on Coles. :finssuck:
true story...my girlfriend was horrified by that hit...and dont forget about that light up hit on neon leon that be bounced right up from
eric smith reminds me a lot of rodney harrison....not super athletic but has a nose for the ball, works within the system and packs a hard punch.
He's going to be a very good player for this defense. Yet again another good pick. Of course the media still thinks he's a bust.
Great pic. Maybe someone can send that to the NFL offices on Park Av and perhaps to Zach Thomas. This way they can see an example of a clean hard hit, as opposed to a dirty, potentially paralyzing (for hitter & hittee), leading with the crown of the helmet punk shot like he put on Coles. Like I said on another thread, when Thomas (or someone he tries to spear) ends up blowing on a straw to move around in their wheelchair maybe the NFL will finally do something about him.
All together that was one of the hardest hitting games all season. It seemed like every tackle, a ball carrier was being driven into the ground, and almost all the tackles were finished strong. Rhodes and Miller had nice hits, Zach Thomas and the guy who hit Washington. Eric Smith, Jason Taylor, just a bunch of big hits.
Yes Coles is tough as nails...Yes Welker now knows what the NFL stands for,"not for long"...and yes this sweep of Miami was sweet!...:finssuck:
Poteat has been really solid for us opposite Dyson and basically in any position we've needed him to play in. A very pleasant surprise from someone who went back and forth from NE a dozen times. Thankfully he settled in here.
After the Coles hit I was almost inclined to think they were Trying to "Rough us up" since we were the JETS going to the P.O.'s Kinda like a - If you wanna get there you're gonna have to go through us - Mentality. Don't get me wrong, they SHOULD have that mentality and I like that they did but as long as it's clean. The 1st hit on Leon Looked worse because he began to slip just as the hit came but STILL The defender "Launched" himself and that should have been a Penalty. Helmet to Helmet/ Launching The Zach hit was inexcusable because you can see him lining Coles up and Putting his Crown right on his face. It was almost a Sore Loser mentality but Other than those 2 hits the game was clean and well played defensively on both sides... Pretty enjoyable. Especially when the Smith hit came...Clean and meaningful. Smith is Quickly becoming what McGraw should have been...
Yeah, great hit by Smith. Theisman and Kornheiser hardly even mentioned it, but talked about Thomas' hit on Coles for 5 minutes.
