I’ve gone through the last 30 years I don’t see any tanking team winning shit Yes Giants won SB but they didn’t tank for Eli. I guess you can say Colts tanked for Peyton but he won 1 in Indy and it was a struggle, A few others like Keyshawn won 1, but not fior the team drafted. KC never tanked Pats never tanked Ravens never tanked Steelers or Packers never tanked Giants and Broncos never tanked Only the colts twice tanked. For Luck and Manning. No one is more depressed than me, but it guarantees nothing let’s just move on. Douglas will do this ! Fuck the Johnsons too
Trevor Lawrence isn’t guaranteed to be amazing either...he might just be very good And then even if you have a very good QB you’re not guaranteed anything in the NFL It would have been nice no doubt, but people are over reacting big time in my opinion Much more important to have the right people (Coach and GM) in place and success should follow
The thing is the FLOOR with TL is very high. And the HC job for the Jets would be much much more attractive.
I think the reaction to it is mainly the release of a lot of pent-up frustration over the past decade of futility colliding head-on with the missing out on a chance for the type of player that we've always sought but always managed to narrowly avoid acquiring. The Jets can't expect fans to react in a positive manner when they've put this crappy of a product out on the field for the past ten years and have seemingly tripped over themselves at every turn in a seeming effort to make things worse than they needed to be.
You can't really DO a foolproof tank in the NFL short of pulling a real-life Rachel Phelps, Major League movie style bag job. The Dolphins were the closest thing I've seen to an intentional bag job since the Luck Colts but Flores like Lou Brown in Major League wouldn't let it happen.
I agree but from my view what’s done is done and we can only look forward from here. With the right people in charge (and I feel Joe Douglas is a good one but now we need the coaching staff) we’re in a position to build the team nicely for the future with or without the 1st overall pick. We’re also not guaranteed anything with or without it either
I've gone full darksider, they need to show me that this time is different otherwise I will assume our next QB wont fare much better than Darnold did.
The funny thing is, the Colts tanking gave them 19 years of generational Peyton, followed by generational Luck and they won ONCE. In that same time period, the Ravens won twice ... with Dilfer and Flacco.
You pretty much said it. Fans aren't attached the idea of that Lawrence must come here per se, its the frustration that this organization can never get it right. That is completely on the ownership and the organization. What makes me mad in particular is that we were just sold on Darnold being the guy earlier this year. They decided to do minimal additions around him albeit they improved to offense line to be somewhat respectable. Chris Johnson called Gase an offensive genius which is really an insult to all our intellect. If you asked any fan in the beginning of the year if they wanted Lawrence they would say but we have Sam and Trevor is going first pick anyway. We had to wait 3 months of watching football that was so bad I think many college teams would beat us. We had 1 hope for the future and Lawrence was our light at the end of the tunnel. While I am happy our team hasn't quit and seems to be a decent locker room, the NFL is about results. So when the team celebrates this win, we know half of them won't be here next season anyway because we roster purge every season to some level. We also know we are still going to be here long after the players leave.
My point exactly they did win 1 but man it was no easy feat get a great coach Make every possible player awesome And just keep knocking on the door till we kick it open
That #1 pick and TLaw was a tiny spot of hope at the end of a very dark period of Jets history where we've had nothing to play for, played dull and uninspiring football and when the Patsies are finnaly falling from their thrown - we're still there miles below them. All this talk flying about about being done because of the win or if Gase stays etc.....it's the lack of even the smallest, tiniest, unlikely hope that's driving me away more then anything else.
Ok so tanking doesn’t work only because those organizations suck to begin with. The other point is that even though winning the SB is what counts it’s still nice to know that you have the chance to win it all every year. Peyton was unlucky that he faced an all time great duo in Brady and Bellicheck while he played.
Historically they had the bad fortune of existing at the same time as the Brady/Belichick was grinding everything in its path with laser-cut millstones. I have a bad memory for stuff like that but the Patriots must have cost them at least a few Super Bowl tries.
And now that they're on the way out we have to deal with the Bills and Dolphins both looking set with young, franchise QB's and great organizations.
You're probably right, but in a way that just underscores the point. The "once in a lifetime" talent couldn't get past the guy drafted in the 6th round who played with a chip on his shoulder, and refused to lose ... combined with a great coach and great organization who hasn't seen a top 10 draft pick in 20 years.
I don't see it like that. When you compare anyone to the GOAT QB and GOAT HC of course they're going to look bad. That doesn't mean the Colts didn't do the exact right thing. They just happened to do the exact right thing in the face of the greatest dynasty in NFL history. In most 20 year stretches the Colts almost certainly would've won more than one title. It's extremely difficult to put together a 20 year stretch like the Patriots just did. It'll probably never happen again or at least not in the near future.
We can only refer to real history maybe tanking will work but the past actual events does not prove it. but yeah you’re right because you need to be right Ooof
ok but it all happened you are creating an alternate reality to prove your point Us normal folks prefer to live here where history is real and facts are facts thanks
That's not at all what I'm doing lol. Shit happens. Sometimes you do everything right as an organization and it just isn't good enough because it's in the middle of the best dynasty ever. That doesn't mean you didn't do the right things and shouldn't do those things going forward. Do you ever gamble? You play the probabilities. If you make a +EV bet and it doesn't work out that doesn't mean you stop making +EV bets. Variance is a thing. That's the real world, not whatever you're talking about.
