I’m not taking a great right tackle at 2 overall.

I would personally take Fields but if we wanna build with Sam then let’s get Chase for him

All in = using back-to-back first round picks on offensive tackles. And I'd want to trade the pick down.

  4. Jets do not need to be married to any QB prospect not named Trevor Lawrence. Elite level QB prospects are in much greater supply than eras of yesteryear.Generational like TL is another story.

More than anything else Jets need to find “the one” & if that guy is a class or 2 away so be it. Now if it is Fields,Wilson or Lance then dont let him get away. And maybe..just maybe its Sam.

Im inclined to evaluate the hell out of the next 2-3 QB draft classes & identify the prime target(s) while continuing to make small but meaningful trade downs that incl future picks. Then when the time arrives when said target is avail you use all that extra draft capital to do whatever is necessary to acquire the QB.

Meantime hopefully the offense is in a much different place in terms of running game & fire power so that QB can be much better equipped to succeed

At this point it might be best to keep Gase and Sam for another top 3 pick next year... we trade out of 2 and keep stockpiling... Lawrence is the only prize that would immediately make an impact

First things first. Get the coaching staff in place. Daboll as HC, Dorsey as OC, Quinn as DC.
Let Daboll and Dorsey have a crack at Sam, and Quinn do what he does best - scheme defenses.
Protect your QB. Continue to strengthen the Oline through free agency and draft.
Find a legitimate pass rushing edge either through free agency or the draft - most likely free agency because finding that guy in the draft is as difficult as finding your FQB. If you get him, that takes a lot of pressure off of the corners and Q, he will feast.
Add one more NFL caliber WR and a pass catching tight end.
If somehow we end up with Daboll and Dorsey, trade out of 2, add talent, and let them coach up Sam. If anyone can get him straightened out, it's those two, although I suspect the Bills will want to promote Dorsey to OC if Daboll leaves.

I dont understand how ownership let this happen...This is why Gase needed to be fired along time ago.Him and Darnold are still trying to win games....We should have benched Darnold or traded him at the deadline to insure this didnt happen and fired Gase at the bye and inserted a yes men stooge who ownership could control.I dont even think Darnold realizes the fanbase wants him gone...we dont hate him like Gase but we were ready to move on.

To me, my biggest issue/concern with yesterday's win wasn't losing out on the chance to draft Lawrence (no question, my heart was set on it and it really hurts). But this loss could potentially impact the coach we ultimately hire (please stop w/ the Gase talk, he's gone). To me, that's the biggest off-season move and we absolutely have to hit a home run here.

Trevor Lawrence + Significant Draft Capital + Loads of $ to spend on FA's = A very enticing job and one hard to turn down

Does retaining Sam Darnold and drafting another OT have the same luster? Does taking Fields and rolling the dice have the same shine?

Maybe I'm overthinking this but it worries me because I can't imagine anyone turning down the job knowing we would have TL in the fold. Without him, who knows.

JD needs to take a qb that defines his tenure in this draft, otherwise, he is linking his job to Sam, who has been one of the worst qbs in the NFL. This will be JDs 2 nd draft and the hope would be he will not be in position to draft this high again I think he has to take either Wilson or Fields, You keep Sam, play him next yr with a new coach and system. If the light goes off great You can still get great value out of either Fields or Wilson if you trade them. If Sam continues to be Sam, you let him walk but you have the excitement of your new qb keep everybody happy. This buys you time to complete your rebuild. Even if Wilson or Fields suck the jury will not be out on them till yr 4 of JDs contract. If he is a good GM we should have a hell of a team by then. Plus if we have a good offensive coach and you give him a 2nd overall pick at qb and a 3 rd overall pick at qb ,he should be able to make something of that talent.
Would love to have Sewell on the team, however, paying 60 million per yr in 5 yrs for ots is crazy, and I do not think we are a championship team depending on Sam in that time frame.

100% on board with trading the #2 overall.

First off, I think Darnold sucks and is not a franchise QB. Despite that, I am not high on Fields or reaching at another QB that high aside from obviously Lawrence. Pick Sewell or trade back. Keep Darnold and see what he has with additional weapons. I rather take my chances on a 23 year old finding himself in year 4 with a better cast and coach than sign some stop gap or pay someone like Stafford. Worst case is, Darnold continues to suck and if that’s the case, we are likely picking in the top 5 again next year and find a QB with a much better roster.

The whole problem with trading the number 2 pick in the draft is we are the team that needs a good qb more than anyone in the NFL, We are the team that would be trading up to get either Wilson or Fields if, we had a better record.

After Lawrence every other QB in the draft is a cypher at this point. There's no point in pretending that we're smart enough to figure out which of the guys after Lawrence is Lamar Jackson or Patrick Mahomes - because we really are not that smart. Better to get as much value as we can and then take the guy who drops to us. That's where the real QB value is in the 1st round. After the sure thing everybody is hit and miss and truth be told the sure thing is closer to hit and miss than a sure thing in most drafts where people think there is a sure thing.

Percey Sewell is the pick. Jets would have the best tackle combination in the league for 10 years.

Sewell at 2. The best edge rusher at 27 or wherever Seattle pick is. Best WR left at 34.

I think that a solid O line could be huge. But again. No idea what to think here. I also can see Cindy offering a ton to move up for Sewell

The question is do we think Fields or Wilson are better than Sam...

personally, I think Fields is not going to be great...and I don’t think he’s better than Sam...not on our team. Haven’t seen Wislon play, but he’s from BYU right? Not exactly a powerhouse...so the odds are long.

it’s interesting because there are plenty of great QBs who weren’t the consensus #1....Watson and Mahomes are only the latest examples...Big Ben was picked 11th....Rivers 4th, Brees a second rounder. So much of it is based on the team he goes to.

we have an atrocious history of not knowing how to develop QBs, and Sam is the latest example....Mac spends all that draft capital to trade up then ignores OL and WR. It’s asinine.

so JD will have to do it differently than other Jets GMs before him, and that means managing the Johnson morons and finding a legitimate coach to start with.

I just don’t see a great QB option outside of TL, though history tells us they are there, and they aren’t always the first pick...

I’m still hopi g for a Jacksonville win, but resigning myself to the fact that we’ll be picking second in a one player draft.

    Fields is no 1a...

I think that was a typo, but I really like it. From now on we should refer to the Bengals as Cindy :)

Take Fields or Wilson, keep Flacco, Darnold has to go, his ceiling is Mark Sanchez ....or I would kick the tires on Stafford
