How does the rookie salary structure now -- as opposed to 2004 when Eli bolted for NY and there was no rookie salary structure -- help prevent a holdout ? I see it as a non-factor in both time periods.
I agree, especially regarding Douglas. I believe that based on the posts I've been seeing, many, if not most, posters here disagree with us.
This thread title is why the article is terrible and drives me nuts. Just starts a bunch of BS nonsense for nothing and all way before Lawrence can even be linked to the Jets since there are 3 weeks left in the season.
Because it takes them longer to get to free agency and the second big contract which is where they make all that money. Why do you think you haven't really seen hold outs since it came into place? Sent from my SM-N986U using Tapatalk
Let's not fool around, be stupid, and leave anything or rumor to chance The Jets and the Johnsons MUST fire A. Gase after game 16 and hire 2 people ASAP>>>Bill Cowher and the Clemson OC Tony Elliot Want to fuck up a chance at aGenerational Talent..??? Remember when you ain't had nothing since 1969 what do you have to lose?? A rookie OC and Cowher a risk well taken imo Pay them what they want ...but just do it!!!
After watching that full Trevor Lawrence interview on Dan Patrick, I think it is clear why he is viewed as the #1 pick. Great on and off the field.
Early on this season I pushed back on all the talk about "Tanking for Trevor", and suggested that he might decide to do a Manning or Elway and not come out or force a trade rather than play for the Jets. IOW: Tanking - if they could ever actually do it - wouldn't guarantee anything. But since that time I've read articles and reports about Lawrence and I don't think he'd avoid the Jets. Moreover, I think if he (or any other prospect) tried to do such a thing, the NFL would impose some kind of sanction and/or penalties on the prospect and the "new" team to shut this kind of thing down.
So you don't want to speculate even though we are are 81.3% of the way to TL ? You'd rather discuss factual stuff in the past....like why we went with Cover-2 Zones in Game 6 ?
I don't believe the NFL could do that. If they wanted to make sure draft picks went to the teams of their choice, they would let the rights exist for 2 years. That way, you hold out....you wait 2 years to play.
I haven't heard that, but I take it with a grain of salt. Even if true, Philly fans are known to be a bunch of classless dumbasses, so who gives a rat's ass what they think?
It's just negative and unnecessary at the moment. If Trevor said that, and it was news, then you discuss it. From all that I have seen, he will come out, and if the Jets have the #1 pick (which they don't yet), they will pick him, and that will be that. The Jets will fire Adam Gase after Week 17 and hire a new Head Coach. Once that happens, you can speculate how Lawrence views the team. Right now? Just doesn't make sense to me. Just another article putting down the history of the Jets, which has nothing to do with the future.
The NFL can do pretty much what it wants to do. If they have enough reason/incentive, they'll do something to discourage this. It's actually only ever happened twice: Elway and Eli Manning forcing things. Peyton is a grey area since he went back to school only after being spurned by Parcells. So the NFL hasn't seen enough of this happening to do anything about it, but with all the talk surrounding Lawrence maybe not wanting to come to the Jets - none of it from him or his camp though - if he did try to do this I think the NFL would finally step in.
It's a complete garbage fluff piece. I fucking hate it. It is written to draw clicks and traffic, all it is. I am telling you this as someone who knows the media industry really well. If Trevor didn't want NY he would say it with his actions, the kid isn't even thinking about a team yet. He knows he is made where ever it is. We all know out of all the gutter teams he has the best chance of making the most money here in NY. I hate these articles so much, our writers are trash and as bad as the New York Jets
it IS an unusually ugly stadium I live in LA, and though obviously there’s been no fans at the new stadium, it looks amazing inside and out. I’ve driven by the new Raiders stadium in Vegas and its also beautiful. I’ve been to Met Life and while it’s fine inside, it is one boring ugly building...no idea what the fuck the designers were thinking
With respect to the thread topic, it is a concern at least to me. he could decide to stay in school...possible though not likely...but that has happened many times and there’s nothing the NFL could or should do about it. If a kid wants to stay in school that’s his choice. or...he could declare but force his way to a trade...I don’t see really any chance of a team passing on him because he says he doesn’t want to play for that team, but he can try and force a trade. Like it’s been pointed out above, Elway and Manning have done that. There is precedent. The NFL didn’t interfere then so I see no reason why they would now, other than they want to kill this before it sets a new precedent. so while I don’t think it’s likely, it IS possible. I understand that the team picking first is by definition going to be a crappy team....no question. However, that team isn’t often 0-16...which I believe we will need to be to get that pick. So that’s one. Secondly, if I’m Trevor’s agent, I absolutely would talk about this...the Jets have a LONG history of sucking, and of not developing QBs. You’d have to go back to Pennington to see a decent QB. Before that, O’Brien. That’s an EXTREMELY SHITTY track record. Of course, none of that has anything to do with JD specifically, but the Johnsons are the owners and the track record of shit hangs heavy with them. They have made bad decisions almost every single time ... that’s a concern for sure. I think it’s a bad sign that Darnold has regressed so much, and that the organization has literally not supported him, is a bad look that is recent. That one hurts. Whatever the truth about how good a prospect Darnold REALLY was or not, he was STILL a top prospect coming out, and the Jets failed him with bad coaches and bad players around him. Again, not all on JDs watch of course, but JD IS here now and is connected to it like it or not. so while I don’t think TL forcing a trade is a high possibility, may not be probable or likely, agreed....but I think with this teams history of bad leadership, and clearly inept ownership, it’s a possibility. not stressing over it as until we actually have the first pick it doesn’t matter, but I don’t think we can ignore the possibility either....there’s a chance, however small
