This. Keep your enemies close. IF Trevor ends up on the Jets, Belichick will know Trevor up close and personal, all his warts and shortcomings. Belli know exactly how to scheme against him. In fact, some of the players Belli grabs may be just to shut Trevor down, since he'll be in the same division. IF Trevor is really as good as people think, then Belli won't want to face him in the POs after never having gone against him in the RS.
Who said Jax has something to play for? Obviously they do not. If I was a betting man I’d bet big on both the Jets & Jags losing out. If one team has a better chance to win though it’s Jax based on a few things. The easiest games remaining for Jax is the Bears & the Jets it’s the Pats. Jax plays the Bears at home while the Jets play the Pats on the road. Last game of the season Jax is playing Indy which is more likely to rest their starters due to having playoff seeding than the Pats laying down to be the the only loss in a 1-15 season. Like I said though the likelihood is they both lose the remaining 3 games.
Yeah I was referring to the other poster who said the Jets will lose out (0-16) b/c they players have given up on the season, but somehow Jax will beat the Bears b/c they haven't given up.
The difference is that Jacksonville can actually TANK and not arouse suspicison. What are there, 3 sportswriters in Jacksonville ? Plus, if Doug Marrone and Shad/Tony Khan have worked out something, then the HC is on the tank. Nobody is saying that Adam Gase is tanking on behalf of JD or the Johnsons.
This is getting into the realm of extreme conspiracy theories. Hoodie has enough to worry about on his own team without trying to scheme which rookie QB a rival drafts. Even in a regular year, it would have been pretty dumb for him to try these sorts of shenanigans. Now? The Patsies are a mess, with a high school offense, no front seven on defense, and a rapidly aging secondary. Their QB situation is worse than ours! They have no upcoming talent on offense there than the RB. If I were Kraft and I saw Hoodie focusing on anything other than his own team, words would be had.
I'm talking about over the next 3-4 years. If we have Trevor and he's good, then Belli will have no choice but to, say draft a top DB to slow Trevor vs a top TE to help his own QB. Stuff like that. The jets have been drafting players to try and slow Tom Brady for 15 years now. The shoe could be on the other foot soon....
Who wants to be known as the coach who lost to the 2020 ny jets? Sent from my SM-N986U using Tapatalk
The coach who hates the Jets and the Johnsons and their fans....and knows that losing Trevor Lawrence will sting for a DECADE while going 0-16 stings for a few days.
One factor we haven't talked about is Belichick is 68 years old. How many years would he even coach against Lawrence? Probably not too many. So, as others have said, I think not losing to an (0-15) Jets team could actually be more important to him than holding them back from a future player. In fact, he probably hasn't even thought of that. It would be a waste of time for him. My true worry is the Patriots just are not that good, and are beatable, but clearly the Jets are a much worse team.
Perception is a very powerful thing. It may not matter if the Jets go 0-16 or not. TL would be crazy to play for the Jets considering how many QB's this franchise has ruined over the years. I can see TL forcing a trade or staying in school another year just to avoid getting his ass smashed every Sunday behind an perpetually rebuilding OL. God help any QB coming out of college getting drafted by the Jets. TL is going to have a lot of leverage and he'd be a fool not to utilize it to his advantage. If they don't fire Gase, they might as well trade out of the top spot.
I read Cimini's Manish style fear piece today on that. Based purely on speculation and 0% on fact. It was his worst article in awhile. They will fire Gase. Then we will see what happens after that. I don't think Lawrence will do anything unless the Jets make a terrible Head Coaching hire, but I don't see that happening. Most people around the league respect Joe Douglas and like what he has done so far. That will be relayed to Lawrence more than Cimini articles, tweets or Jets message board posts.
Hard to respect 0-13 but I suppose when you're a Jets fan, anything is possible. More like people around the league being polite and not wanting to trash JD. There is NO guarantee the Jets will fire Gase and if you think this team is incapable of making a terrible HC hire, just look at the history. Our record of hiring HC's rivals our record of developing QB's. The Johnson's will do anything to preserve what's left of the Jets' panache. Don't sell the back channels short. We don't know who's in TL's ear right now but like the article said, how do you not make TL aware of the history here with QB's? Would YOU play QB for the Jets knowing their history given the choices TL has? My answer would be Hell No.
It really depends on his mindset. I see a lot of positives. Joe Namath was their only recognizable QB in their history, so I could become a legend for that franchise. I get to play in the New York market. That would give me a lot of endorsement opportunities. If I was him, I would care much less about history and much more on where the team is going. Who is on the roster? Who is the Head Coach? What is his vision? What are my alternatives? I think when you weigh it all, the Jets are a pretty good spot as long as they hire a respectable Head Coach.
The article was OUTSTANDING. It wasn't based on speculation and fear -- he talked to a bunch of folks with worthy opinions. Did you actually READ the piece ?
Unless it's Dallas -- and their GM's record isn't that great (he's kept his job this long for 1 peculiar reason ) -- WHO ELSE does he want to play for ? Jacksonville ? Chicago ? Atlanta ? Carolina ? Elway didn't want to play for Frank Kush......Eli wanted to play in NY, not escape NY. I think Trevor embraces the opportunity here.
Yes, I read it. I wouldn't write it until the Jets had the #1 pick. I felt it was ridiculous to do with 3 weeks left in the season. I wouldn't write until the Jets had a new Head Coach either. Just my opinion. Doesn't mean the article wasn't well written or that he did not get good sources. Just felt it was negative and would send fear to the fanbase for no reason. And yes, it is pure speculation. Lawrence has said nothing to warrant that being written.
