Week 17 very well could kill any chance at Trevor Lawrence

SB? It's incredible how good of a reputation Brady has given Belichick. Granted, I feel he is a very good coach who could potentially go to SB on rare occasion, but this expectation of incredible post season success going forward I feel is blown out of proportion. Without Brady he was a HC for 7 years. 4 for Browns and 3 for NE (Including this season and the season Brady got hurt for all year). He has exactly one play off appearance in these 7 years with 1W (in WC) and 1L (in division). This is not to say he is not good, but without an elite QB, who is extremely hard to find, he will be A LOT more worried about facing a great QB in his division than in SB.

yeah. I think watching Cam Newton throw for 85 yards every week in Belichick's system shows that maybe that Brady kid was pretty good and maybe Belichick is not the deity that the media has made him out to be

I have never been a "Tom Brady is a system guy" but I don't think you can draw too many conclusions from this year. Cam was awful last year and hurt, the Patriots are trotting out potentially worse WRs than we are and he had Covid.

Because we're up and down. Because we are capable of good play, like against the Raiders. Because how a team played last week does not dictate how they will play this week. Because it is REALLY difficult to go 0-16.

I think the opposite honestly. Their records are only separated by two games with Cam Newton who can't throw the ball, while the Buccaneers have two Hall of Famers to throw the ball to and two other Pro Bowl receivers along with a the 4th leading rusher and 7th ranked defense.

Yeah, Brady is shell of his former self now, yet still somewhat decent. With him last year NE is #2 seed, and without him, out of play-offs. Without him TB not a play-off team, and Brady, even further declined from last year, looks like will take them to play-offs. And bare in mind, this is not even the same version of a guy Belichick had for so many years. Granted Bill does deserve credit as well for these years, but life is very different without Brady, where you need to worry about playing your own division FAR FAR more than potentially facing a good QB some time in play-offs.

TB with these same receivers didn't make play-off last year. Brady made the team better, and this was Brady that is old and rapidly declining. Last year's Brady, who was also already heavily declining, won 12. NE looks like they will be 500 this year, maybe worse. And this is just last couple of years. Belichick had 7 years without Brady, and the results suggest he has ABSOLUTELY been a clear beneficiary of having him on the squad - a luxury he will no longer have.

I agree with that, but the Browns looked really good last night. They could play bad and the Jets play good, which would make it close, but still tough for the Jets to win. The Rams game will be a nightmare. Blowout written all over it. Week 17 is the true question mark, as this thread has stated. Maybe Minshew can beat the Bears Week 16 to put this to rest, but if not: Week 17 will be intense.

I remember Sam's rookie season ended in New England. Terrible game. The Patriots won 38-3 and Bowles was fired hours after. Gase will be fired hours after this game too, so hopefully the Jets give a similar effort for his send off.

There's no doubt that he's better and made that team better. But it's not like Belichick has done a terrible job this year. Don't forget that they had three starters opt out (Hightower, Chung, Cannon).

It's not a surprise that there's a drop off with a QB that throws for 180 yards a game.

It started this past week and it will continue. Anyone playing well is going to be put on IR with a hangnail. Also, the Jets have given up on season. If a team can get just a 7-3 lead, they give up as they know it is over.

Yeah I was more worried about the Browns but they’re good enough to beat us. My worry now lies on the Pats. I don’t think it’s logical that Belichick will lose on purpose but you never know. We are just so bad right now and I think the defense is starting to quit on the team. Horrible offense + bad defense means we shouldn’t win another game.

Where is the up? The Jets have very few games you could consider up, most notably the Raiders who are clearly playing bad football, the first Pats game, and the second Dolphins which is easily looking like an issue of the Fins overlooking the Jets when you consider how well they’ve played against better opponents. That’s 3 out of 13.

there is zero indication the Jets are capable of an “up” against arguably the best team in the NFC, the Rams, one of the best in the AFC, the Browns, or can repeat what is obviously a fluke “up” when you see how rare it is for the team, a second time versus the Pats.

this isn’t an up and down team. It’s a down team that simply has managed not to be truly pathetic all 13 games.

I heard someone say Stidham may start instead of Cam Week 17, but even if that happens, is it a big downgrade? Cam has been pretty bad this year.

Even if the Pats play down to the Jets, it’s not the same as saying the Jets, themselves, have played “up” to some sort of potential they’ve missed throughout the rest of the season. I’ll take a well coached, and obviously highly motivated Stidham who is trying to start his career, over any best case potential of this awfully coached, lack of talent team.

I can’t imagine any Jets having any motivation other than ending this miserable season as fast as possible come week 17.

Hopefully Jax can win week 16 vs Bears so we can root to win vs NE.

That is certainly best case scenario. The Rams defense is going to destroy us. The Browns offense should roll right over us. Not a chance we win those games. But I’d love to be this terrible, beat NE, and still end up with Lawrence.

last year their D wasn't as good and also winston cost them too many games with turnovers. brady is playing good but any smart QB would
the pats rolled over the chargers 45-0 with cam throwing for 69 yards. the jets haven't looked good in any game. I don't see why people think we can beat the pats

Some strong points made in this post, I do also agree that anyone with the most minor of injuries could be put on IR or be benched for the game out of precaution. If you want the optimist perspective of the Pats game for the tank, here is mine:

    1) Sam has been very bad against the Pats and their style of defense, plus it's an away game and he's playing hurt
    2) Also, the Pats defense has been pretty good this year, one of the better ranked in the NFL
    3) It will probably be NE winter weather, which means run centered, NE is running the ball well
    4) Nobody with any pride wants to be an 0-15 teams first and only win, even if the coach wants to
    5) We have a GM who is infatuated with QB position and an owner who is known for wanting the headlines, that would be doing what it takes to get TL

With that said, I'm used to getting hurt by this team in cruel and unusual fashion--so I'm trying to mentally prepare myself for the worst and be surprised if we get what we all want.

Like I've said many times already, you probably have to let the Rams and Browns games play out normally and then maybe use the last game to try the rookie out at QB so we "know what we have for next year". The nice part is we spent a 4th on Morgan, that's somewhat of an investment, so it wouldn't be asinine to want to see him further.

I know it's illogical but I can't help but be concerned about the Pats in week 17. That game is like a dark cloud looming over the entire season.

The one thing the Jets are consistently great at is doing the worst possible thing and ripping the fans hearts out. Wouldn't it just be the Jetsiest thing to go 0-15, make us suffer through this insanely tense season, only to lose the 16th and final game against the Pats to miss out on Lawrence? It's hard to believe but it would be rather poetic in the darkest, worst way.

I think that Bilecheat would rather see JL go to the Jets then any other AFC team. What better way to neutralize a threatening QB then to go to the Jets?
