If Chris Jonson had spoken to 100 random Dolphins fans instead of Peyton Manning, every one of them would have told him that kicking FGs is what Gase does. You can be sure that outside of the six games he played against us, Chris Johnson had never seen a single Dolphins game coached by Adam Gase. I'd bet my life on it.
I agree if there's someone worth it. Isn't Ficken healthy? No idea why this other scrub is out there if he is. Sign this beast. 18-20 this year and he's tatted up. I can get behind a kicker with tats.
It's not wasting the pick. Games are won and lost every year, and probably every week of the season due to kickers. It's an important part of the game. A kicker plays every week unless injured and a 7th round position player may not even make the team, much less see action every week.
It literally directly affects putting points on the board. Would you rather they use 4-5M of cap space, maybe lose a compensatory pick to sign a FA kicker? If they only have 6 picks..yeah w. the holes we have, kicker doesn't make sense. But we have ample picks & can easily create more. Scoring points matters. Kicker has been a revolving door. JD has proven he's not very good at utilizing the open market to find one. He's much better at drafting. So draft a kicker round 6 or 7
Frankly, if there was a kicker as good as Mann is as a punter, I'd use a 5th on him. We're talking about a significant part of the scoring of the team. Sure, using a 2nd rounder as they did once is silly, but I wouldn't be shocked if they used a 4th for a proven stud FG kicker - I'm not advocating that, but I wouldn't be upset or shocked if they did either.
I know I've said this before, but mosy of my good friends from college are Dolphin fans. As soon as it was announced the JETS signed Gase, my phone started buzzing with a group text basically saying "HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA"
Fans always get labeled as dummies ... but the vast majority of hardcore fans in any sport know more about the sport and the talent in the league than the owners do.
