It's going to be interesting to see this week. I have come close to seeing the Jets quit once or twice so far. But it looks like some players are still working hard. I wonder if last week just killed the season for some of these players. Must have been horrible for them to have that taken away, especially as they just had a stop. Things that are hurting the Jets getting Trevor at this point: 1) The Patriots sucking and not being in playoff contention 2) The Patriots QB situation and having to play QBs that lose games 3) Marcus Maye 4) Quinnen Williams 5) A healthy Jets WR core I believe if we genuinely go 0-15 into the week 17 game vs. Pats and the Jags are still within a game, we must make some business decisions. Especially if the Pats start Stidham--are we really going to roll out Sam vs. their 2nd string QB? Just seems kind of desperate and sad. What are we trying to prove at that point? That Sam can be just average enough to beat a downtrodden Pats team in experiment mode. If Pats start Stidham, just treat the game the same way and start Morgan-- This can be a Douglas or ownership call. Don't try to be cute.
Hopefully by that time we have a 1-game cushion...but if the Jets pulled something that obvious, even in reaction to a Patriot move at QB, the league might get involved.
I think that's a great point! I do think that if the Jets played the rest of their starters, they could justifiably play Morgan in the NE game under the "need to view his development" prior to the draft and 2021 season. But I'm also betting, due to the optics of that and JD's reputation across the league, he won't activate Morgan as it would be a shot to his and the org's reputation. We desperately need a Jag's win and it's not out of the question that will happen. I think it's safe to say the Jets will be 0-14 and we'll have to be mildly anxious about the Browns, who should beat the Jets w/out too much problem, and pretty terrified about the NE game no matter who's at QB for them.
Well Tbh we did draft him in the 4th round. So it's not that bad. Not like we're playing a WR at QB. Sent from my M2007J20CG using Tapatalk
Hoping for 0-16 to draft our 'savior' is just being a lazy fan. It's the 'only way' you can see the Jets winning the SB. Why worry about building our defense, or oline, or WR/TEs, or RBs. Only have to buy one jersey!!! Just fire Gase and draft Trevor and everything solved?
Totally get your point. I'm guessing most folks don't think that's the case, rather we're looking at solidifying the QB position as the biggest item on the checklist. It just so happens that, apparently, this year there's a generational QB in the draft to fill that #1 need. The rest of the dominoes need to fall into place after that in the next year or two between the draft and FA to build this thing from scratch. But there's such a big difference between the #1 pick this year and even the #2 pick, that most (including me) are very focused on getting it as the reward for such a disaster of a season. I think the best way to sum it up is, with the #1 pick the slam dunk thing to do is draft TL...w/ the #2 pick, there's a hard decision and I'd even lean toward keeping Sam vs. drafting Fields, and then focus on hiring the right head coach to bring out the best in the team and Sam. That's how big of a difference there is in the draft position and thus the focus for the next four games.
No, but we can get a coach, OL, DL, or other players virtually every FA and draft season. A generational QB like Trevor Lawrence comes out once a decade. To have that happen...and to be in a position where you can draft him (i.e., your team SUCKS).....yeah, you need lots of luck (Luck ? ).
Darnold has been hurt off and on all year. The Jets have won nothing with Flacco at QB. It would be an entirely reasonable move to start Morgan at 0-15 in a lost season. It's not like he's going to get a chance to start a game with Lawrence on the roster. There would be nothing inappropriate nor questionable about starting Morgan week 17. The only problem with the scenario is that Morgan's only chance would probably have him so keyed up he might well beat the Pats as they rolled over.
Schefter reporting that Doug Marrone might be safe in Jacks--that would be very significant in the Lawrence race. Pretty easy to conspire to lose games when the owner and coach are in bed. They have lost in some shady ways lately...
The only way that Morgan starts is if Gase is fired. Gase is trying to win games to save his job and views Darnold as his best chance (along with the fact that his main job has been to develop Darnold, so Darnold must play for him to be able to "accomplish" this). Given the organizational structure, Douglas can't make the decision to start Morgan. Christopher Johnson could do it, but we know that's not going to happen.
I turned on the Jacks game for a few mins--they are worse than we are. I'm trying to stay realistic about our draft position because I don't think they win another game.
Yes, but they've had 4 of those types of losses. Call me a conspiracy theorist, but it's hard to say they are playing to win.
And the Patriots. Both were more egregious than any of the 4 close Jags losses. I've been following the Jags closer than I ever cared to, and if I'm not mistaken, their big time close losses all were a function of "hanging in there", "somehow keeping it close", but simply not having enough firepower to actually take the lead at the end of the game. The Jets have completely thrown away two games. Like, been in position and flat out blown it.
everyone knows that QB is the most important position in all of team sports - if you dont have at least a 'good' QB (doesnt need to be elite just good) then you are never going to have sustained success and never win a SB unless every other part of your team is playing great and is really solid and you get lucky - and how likely is that to be the case with the Jets? without a good QB we will never go anywhere
Agreed - they are abysmal - we are really lucky that they won even a single game - I would say no chance that they win another
The league would not get involved. On what grounds? That an 0-15 team wasn't trying to win hard enough? Last game of the season for a team with absolutely nothing to play for is the right time to figure out what you have in all of your depth players, especially since your starters proved 15 times that they were incapable of winning a game. Actually, you could argue that teams should be doing that the moment they are eliminated from playoff contention. The Jets were eliminated from the playoffs a month and a half ago. Is it a league mandate that a team with no wins must try its hardest to win in the last game of the season?
