I recall Rex using similar formations in similar situations. I've seen lots of bad beats--it happens.
I don't know about a Cover 0, but Williams is known for blitzing on Hail Marys. https://www.ganggreennation.com/201...illiams-a-look-at-his-tendencies-third-medium
Not quite this much, a couple guys blitzing is one thing. An all-out blitz with man-to-man coverage is another.
I can't speak for the others, but if they're of the same mind as me, then we're at peace about it. It's simple. Either Gase is gone, or I'm gone. I'm not going to waste my time and my energy on a team that doesn't deserve it. Either they do the right thing, or I bail. For me, I'm not really worried about the unthinkable happening. I have complete faith that Douglas isn't an idiot and he isn't going to be for keeping Gase and Williams. Even though the Johnsons ARE idiots, even they aren't stupid enough to bring back Gase. If they prove me wrong, so be it. What's to be anxious, or angry, or agitated about? It is what it is. I'd hate it for the rest of you and other Jets fans, but wouldn't be able to do anything about it to prevent it. I only have control over what I do. They're either too stupid for me to follow their team any more, or they will make the right decision and allow Douglas to call the shots. It was an easy decision to come to. I've already spent too much of my life obsessing about the Jets and football, being frustrated and depressed about the Jets, and I'm just not going to do it any more. Sports are supposed to be fun and a source of joy, not constant misery and heartache. In the grand scope of things in life, it really isn't that important. There are many more important things in life, and if the Johnsons are as stupid as some here think they are (to keep Gase), they'll be doing me a favor by keeping Gase. That will allow me to walk away and spend my time and energy doing more worthwhile things to help myself and others. If they make the right decision, then I can keep my passion for the Jets and football, something I really love.
I get this mentality but I can’t physically do it Even when I knew a loss was good for the franchise I still was rooting for our Hail Mary to be answered at the end, and felt bummed for a split second when it was knocked down and the game was over it’s tough but I’m stuck with them till death even with Gase
You're a true fan indeed and I hope you see the day that the Jet's curse comes to an end. Many of the national media including the Boston media believe that the Jets are tanking on purpose. If this is true, the organization must be given credit for finding a way to lose the game at the end to maintain their #1 draft status. One could then argue that nobody tanks like the Jets. But fans of the team really know what is happening. The team is messed up and they are definitely cursed. The media is going to make a big thing about Williams calling a blitz on the winning TD play and how that cost the game. The defense does its job and stops the Raiders on 4th down giving the Jet's offense the ball with 1:37 left to play. But the Jets offense goes three and out giving the Raiders a 2nd chance. Had the Jets offense done its job and get a 1st down, game over for sure. Tell me how this doesn't cost the Jets the game. A tired defense has to go back onto the field and stop the Raiders offense one more time. The Raiders almost get a TD but Carr misses Agholar deep down the middle on 2nd down. The Jets rushed three on that play and had that play been successful, I guess Williams gets crucified for being too wimpy, go figure. But anyone with any football knowledge could see that the Jet's pathetic offense cost them the game. Furthermore, let's review some of the pathetic plays by Darnold. 1.) You get sacked and you fumble the ball on your end of the field during the 2nd quarter. The defense saves your ass and the Raiders get a FG. 2.) Late in the 2nd quarter on a 2nd and three, you throw an interception on a very risky play. Not a wise decision when you consider you had another down to play with and only three yards to go. You were on the Raiders 38 and could have possibly at least got a FG. This time the Raiders make you pay for this turnover by scoring a TD. 3.) On a first and 10 play in Raider's territory, you get sacked and fumble the ball again. This time the defense saves your ass again and the Raider's don't score. It is half time, and if I was the coach, win or lose, I bench Darnold for being a total dumb ass! By allowing him to continue playing, you are tolerating his stupidity. Darnold plays a bit better in the 2nd half, but because Darnold can't be trusted you run Johnson three times with 1:37 left to play and then punt the ball and the game away. But everyone will blame Williams when Darnold is the real reason you lost.
Each person can only do what he can do. Personally, I don't get this mindset that one has to be wedded to a team for life. That's being a masochist and saying you have no choice in the matter when you do have a choice if you care about yourself and your time. You owe the Jets NOTHING, especially the way Leon Hess and the Johnsons have run the Jets. If your wife hit you over the head with a baseball bat every time you walked in the door, would you stay with her until she killed you? If so, please go get some counseling tomorrow. Rooting for a victory this season is cutting your nose off to spite your face. I'm sorry, but it's dumb. There's no other way to put it. Generals have intentionally lost battles to set themselves up for victory later. It's how Sam Houston liberated Texas. A win this season means absolutely nothing, whereas getting Trevor Lawrence could mean multiple SB victories, or at least 10-15 years of exciting Jets play and the Jets being a perennial playoff team. Would you go out and gamble tomorrow and put your house up as collateral and risk possibly winding up homeless just for the immediate excitement and chance of winning big tomorrow? In a way, that's what you're doing by rooting for a victory this season. You're saying that winning one game this season is better and more important than quite possibly winning 10-14 games a season for the next 10-15 years.
I don't know why so many fans are "sick" about the loss. I get that the way it happened blows, but I am looking forward to reminding all of you in 2024 when we are headed BACK to the Super Bowl that it never would have happened if we had beaten the Raiders.
I think there's a subtle distinction between putting a player in position to lose a game on purpose and putting a player in a position where if he makes a play the Jets win. That throw to Ruggs probably had a 2/3's chance of going for the game-winning TD and a 1/3 chance of being thrown where the receiver couldn't catch it. From the perspective of the call on the sideline it was pretty easy to squint and see it as a 50/50 thing. If Carr doesn't make the throw then Gregg Williams looks like a genius and the CB gets a boost out of having the ball in his area and the Jets unfortunately are 1-11. It's pretty clear at this point that Williams does not believe in dropping 8 guys in coverage and putting no pressure on the QB in the process. Getting from there to what happened is pretty easy to do without Williams throwing the game or intending too.
When Ruggs scored yesterday I ran around my house like we just won the damn Super Bow screaming at the top of my lungs in excitement. I was one of the few who enjoyed the wins last year in that 2H of the season and it was an absolute mistake. This is the best thing that can happen to the franchise. Every week it's something new with them. I'm not the one with my name on the back of the jersey. It doesn't impact me. I'm not the one who will have an 0-16 record attached to my career. It doesn't impact me. I'm not the owner who be the laughing stock of the league at the owner's meetings. It doesn't impact me. Embrace the 0-16 and hopefully it leads to the end of the AG era and the start of the TL era. This is absolutely glorious. Embrace it lads. 4 more weeks.
Replace the when in your second sentence with an if and you are right. It's a massive fucking if though.
>> I don't get this mindset that one has to be wedded to a team for life I do and I will continue to be so.
Lol pretty much same convo. Wife - im glad the Jets will get a win Me - don't go too fast (10 seconds later) Me - they lost
Why are you bothering so much about it for? You wanted us to lose, actively telling everybody we would lose and not to worry lol Thanks, Gregg, is all you need to say.
Jets or nobody, that is the way it is. I will skip a year if Gase comes back next season, I will glance at the results don't get me wrong but how can anybody want to sit and watch this putrid playcalling for another season? Also, wanting us to lose as I have been for the last 4 years is taking its toll tbh it isn't right, is it? Get Gase out, get that number 1 pick and all the other lovely picks and prey to whoever you think will get JD to deliver a killer draft and FA masterclass. This shit has been going stale for far too long, we are due a change.
