Living down here in Florida I've got to watch a lot of Trask over the years. He's pretty good, yes, but he's very unathletic and reminds me of nothing more than a game manager once on an NFL level. Awesome game from him today but I do not project him as an NFL Franchise QB.
Same thing was said about Brady though. That being said, I can't think of the last Florida QB that has ever had any success in the NFL. Tebow probably had the best NFL success of any Gator QB, so that's as high as the bar has been set. Florida's offense has just always been too different from pro style for QBs to develop into quality NFL players.
I stand corrected. I forgot about him. I also want to add that I just watched some videos of Trask. Yeah...I actually wouldn't write him off. He's got good mechanics, good accuracy, good footwork, a quick release, and good field vision. If he has the intangibles of leadership and the ability to read defenses, he could actually be pretty damn good.
Ha... Trask is basically the opposite of sexy Rexy. He's not that athletic (hence why he's always been overlooked) and not a very strong arm, but he reads the field well and puts the ball where it needs to be. Grossman could CHUCK the ball..... but often to the wrong jersey
Ive watched a ton of FL this yr bc i love Pitts & Toney. He’s never impressed me physically or w any of his throws.He’s not bad or anything just nothing really stands out.
Trask does not have NFL caliber athleticism which is basically a must-have for an elite QB prospect nowadays. He is a statue in the pocket, which makes him a very unlikely 1st round selection. He has some good attributes but the days of successful pocket-only passers are all but gone.
Let me preface this by saying, that I'm from Europe and know next to nothing about evaluating college football players. The only time I can remember being spot on with something was thinking that Mahomes would be absolutely great before he was drafted. Was really, really wishing the Jets drafted him. However, another time I really wished we drafted Ryan Nassib, so there's that. Now I really wish we draft Kyle Trask. He looks to have a really quick mind combined with an excellent touch and ball placement. I also like that (as far as I can gather) he doesn't have a great running game or defense, so the team relies heavily on his arm. Another part of the story is, that Trevor Lawrence really scares me. I just have a bad feeling that he's gonna be a major bust, but I guess that belongs in another thread.
their Tight End is the real prospect. Would be great to get him with Seattle's pick. OR even better, our 1st pick in the 2nd round
Totally agree, if Pitts somehow falls to us with Seattle's pick, I would take him in a heartbeat. Only spot that would get tricky for me would be if it was a choice between like Pitts, Waddle, and Smith but even then, I would probably go with Pitts and hope a guy like Moore, Bateman, Marshall, St. Brown, Olave, etc. would be there with our 2nd/3rd rounder(s). Probably a moot point because I doubt Pitts, Waddle, or Smith drop to the low-mid 20's but you never know.
Waddle recovering from a torn ACL, he surely may drop in the draft. DeVonta Smith may still be there late 20's...he's like a jack of all trades, and doesn't have the blazing speed, but he's a helluva WR prospect. I think Pitts has the most helium to get drafted out of the group you mentioned. Freiermuth is a great fallback option that I'd love to grab in the early 2nd.
I'm not interested in Smith at all. He's too thin/light, not big/strong enough, or fast enough, and I don't think his body will hold up in the NFL. I realize we said that about Robby Anderson, but Anderson primarily runs sideline and deep routes. Smith is best in the center of the field where he will take a lot of big hits. He might wind up being a very good pro, but I hope we don't draft him. I want one of Pitts, Freiermuth or Etienne (if any of them fall) at Seattle's pick. If Rashod Bateman falls to that point, I'd have to strongly consider him, but would rather have one of the three I mentioned. If Waddle falls that far, I'd take him over the other three if he checks out medically. I think we need to get a topflight RB, and for me, that means Etienne, Najee Harris, Gainwell of Memphis, or maybe Javonte Williams of UNC. I think Harris and Gainwell will go early in the 2nd round. Williams may be there in the 3rd.
I know he’s light but I think Smith’s got all the tools to be a stud in the NFL. He’s never gonna be Megatron is terms of size but I def think he can get up to the 200-210 range which is good enough. Plus, I think he compliments Mims’ skill set well. Mims seems to be more of a “go up and get it” kinda guy where Smith destroys defenses over the middle. My ideal start to the draft is: Lawrence Pitts Best WR/IOL available Javonte Williams (also a big fan of this guy and think he could be an absolute steal for us with our 3rd) Best IOL/EDGE/CB Those 5 picks, added to whatever JD is able to do in FA could totally revamp our offense in 1 offseason. Not saying we’d be a top 5-10 unit but we def wouldn’t be the worst in the league anymore.
Pitts looks like a beast, but he has been out for the past two games, and Trask has kept on truckin'. I'm suprised that Trasks style apparently won't translate well to the NFL. Seems to me that dropping catchable balls in small windows would be a trait that's always coveted. Does his lack of running ability really hurt him that much?
every year some guy thought to be a fringe 1st rounder moves up and gets picked way earlier then anyone expects. Kyle Trask will be that guy. 6’5” 240 4125 yards 69.7% 43 tds 5 int His stats against real (NFL level prospects) competition are better than Lawrence, Fields and Wilson. Go watch the film, his ability to throw accurately downfield is the best in this class. He carried and almost willed a less talented Florida team to a victory vs the best team in the country in Alabama. 400+ yards, 4 tds... We’ll get a chance to see how Lawrence or Fields does vs this Alabama team. Everyone talks about Wilson but how can you compare coastal carolina with alabama... One guy played lights out vs the best team in the country loaded with NFL talent and one guy was overwhelmed vs a team with no NFL talent. His INT rate is better than Lawrence and Fields and he throws way more passes and higher risk passes. The guy actually is constantly challenging defenses down the field which is why he avg’s a higher ypa than either (10.1 vs 9.6 vs 9.3). I’m not impressed with the guy who can win throwing 200 yards/game and periodically throws over 300 yards... ala Lawrence... Give me the guy like Mahomes or Trask who are forced to throw every game to give their team a chance... and where they routinely throw over 400 yards 4-6 tds... He’s not the athlete these guys are, but he’s a better / more accurate passer for sure imo. He should be talked up more imo + go watch his games... they all look like highlight reels... Just a matter of time before you start hearing more and more about him. To me, he’s a better version of Darnold. Not as athletic, but similar arm, but way more accurate + consistent and very few boneheaded plays. He’s quickly becoming the guy I’d take a flyer on to compete with Darnold, Morgan... Not sure where he goes... suspect when all is said and done top 15. A guy with his frame + with his numbers don’t drop that far...
Don’t disagree with this. But again, do we want a 23 year old Darnold or 21 year old Trask? They seem very similar as in they aren’t mobile. Need to watch more film on Trask but he has a good roster around him. Could be a good value pick. he lit up the sec which speaks volumes. He also had Tony and Pitts to throw to who we should target regardless.
