when your WRs never get open and your o-line is blown up before your 1st read makes a break, what do you expect?
Literally only 1 player to me looks improved from last year and that is Quinnen. for the entire team. the rest look worse with a small % looking about the same (like crowder, foley, lewis, and maye)
Allowing Darnold to go back into the game after re-injuring his shoulder, tells you the Jets have little regard for him and no interest in keeping Darnold. Also, allowing Sam to sit back there and be target practice for opposing defenses also tells you they are done with him. By putting him in harm's way week after week, and doing nothing in 3 years to build a half-way decent team around him, pretty much speaks volumes.
You mean like when they were all getting open in the first half of the last two games and then all not getting open in the second half of both games? He was 12 for 18 for 107 yards in the first half yesterday. He had 26 yards in the second half. I get it, we don't have great wide receivers, but come on. A lot of this shit falls on him
of course it does. he hasn't played well. but he was playing well prior to this year with shit around him. gase is making him worse and he's probably shell shocked
Go look up Sam's season rankings among starting QB's for 2018 and 2019. He was absolutely not playing well. He's been among the worst starting QB's in the NFL every year. I'm not saying we've done anything to help him. We have bad talent on offense and bad coaches. But to say Sam has played well is just flat out wrong. This is a guy who has 4 career 300 yard games over 2.5 seasons. He sucks.
He played well in Jets standards and for a second year QB in a new system. He has not "played well" against any other starting NFL QB. Trust me I was one to defend him last year. But I chalked a lot of it up to him in a new system as a 2nd year QB. He is garbage. He was not very good with Bowles and he sucks ass with Gase. Our record and the stats don't lie
Almsot everyone has agreed that Loggains game plan is far better than Gase's. So by that understanding, Darnold has looked like shit in what a majority of people believe to be a better system. It's the same line and same receivers as Gase. Yet Darnold continues to look like shit and can't find the end zone. What gives? He is not very good. End of story
Same thing for the "he has no surrounding talent" argument. Turns out Robby Anderson isn't terrible and Sam still sucked when he was here.
I don't need to ask myself that question because your basic premise that Douglas was tanking from the get-go is laughable. Just because Douglas doesn't do things the way you think he should doesn't mean that he was tanking. I believe that Douglas knew that this team didn't have the talent to compete for a playoff spot this season. When Mosley opted out, and most of his rookie draft picks and Perriman got injured, then he knew it didn't. Spending more money on this season or wasting draft capital to bring in a player for this season would have been stupid and a waste of resources. You're obvious used to the idiotic way that Jets GMs have operated over the last 30 years, and not used to seeing how a GM who knows how to recognize talent, knows that he has 6 years to rebuild this team the right way, and has no reason to panic or try to rush things does things. Douglas isn't going for a re-tooling and hope that the team can get lucky and hot one year. He is trying to build the team for long term success. That means doing it right, doing it slowy, primarily through the draft, and not wasting resources. He believes in what he learned from Ozzie Newsome about building a team and identifying talent. You might as well resign yourself to the fact that he's not going to do the kinds of things that Mac and Idzik did, and that it's going to be 2-3 years before this team is ready to really compete in a serious manner.
Not only Robby Anderson but there are former O-Lineman starting for multiple NFL offenses around the league right now. The same O-Lineman who we thought stunk because of Sam are proving it was really Sam who made THEM look bad the entire time. Sam makes everyone around him look bad and no, it's not the "other way around". Say what you say about Gase but A.) Tanny had very good and respectable QB Ratings of 92 and 93 during their only two years in Miami together. B.) Manning put up QB Ratings of 115 and 101 with Gase calling the offensive plays and C.) A #1 WR in Jarvis Landry played amazing under Gase etc etc But here we are. Blaming Gase for Sam's dead last & 32nd rated QB Rating of 65?!? I hate Gase because of his character and personality but a part of me also feels bad for him because he's been forced to coach an absolute USC NFL bust in Sam Darnold. Gase wasn't here during Sam's rookie season where Sam (just like USC) was beginning to become an absolute turnover machine with 15 INTs and 4 fumbles (1 lost). Burrow is a ROOKIE who's thrown for 220/331 (67.0%)!, 2,272 passing yards, 11 TDs/5 INTs and a QB Rating of 91.4 on the losing BENGALS! And I'm not surprised either because Burrow put up the greatest NCAA single season ever of All Time within the SEC (while Trevor Lawrence is putting together the greatest NCAA career production all time out of the ACC etc). Sam Darnold was an ESPN media driven hype machine due to ONE ROSE BOWL GAME against PENN STATE lol and I'm guilty for buying into it Sam actually had a mediocre NCAA career once you look deep into his statistical production A.) He was never special and B.) Was never anything close to "generational" and C.) A lot of the real experts always questioned his arm strength, deep ball accuracy, mechanics, weird release and smaller hands etc more than they did his on field greatness (but I didn't want to listen as a QB starved Jets fan). Sam is just another USC NFL bust nothing more nothing less he really stinks and has no IQ in terms of reading NFL defenses.
I like Berrios and Smith for what they are - depth receivers with Berrios possibly being a lesser Edelman/Welker type. If they are back next year behind Mims, Crowder and another addition via draft of Free Agency, then I wouldn't be griping about it.
My biggest dud was Sam Darnold. He's the quarterback and supposed leader. He went into the game ranked dead last 32nd in QB Rating @ 70 and went on to post another disgusting QB Rating of 70.6. He played like the worst QB in the league and that's because, he is. Not even a Franchise LT in Becton can help save this BUST by protecting his blindside because at the end of the day, Sam is just awful on so many different levels. He's finished.
I thought Sam did well in the first half. There was the usual second-half meltdown, whether due to the other team figuring out what we're doing, or our own coaches thinking 'hey! If it ain't broke, don't fix it! That always works!' But he made some good throws in the first half, and he moved the ball. Not studly, I'll grant you, but far from horrible. In the first half, mind you.
Are you kidding? Highlights?! These are specifically made to only show his good plays. Go look at his total body of work AKA the stats. He's been horrendous. Every QB has good plays here and there. Being able to do it consistently is what makes you good or not. This video is just as relevant as yours:
