I think some players are talented enough to make up for technique issues or coaching issues. Parcells echoed this sentiment, there's only so many people in the world that can be this big fast and talented. I think Becton fits this, he's enormous and carries mostly muscle at his size. People don't realize how hard it is to get through him or around him.

I think this is how people feel about Lawrence, he's too gifted to mess up. If Justin Fields plays lights out again this year, he might end up getting that type of coverage to.

Maybe not. If we hadn't moved up and taken Sam, another team (Denver) probably would have. I think that we have taken Josh Allen, but if not, we'd have taken Bradley Chubb over Q. Nelson. One, we have desperately needed an edge rusher. Two, Mac didn't believe in taking OL high.

They didn't develop Becton. Becton was already really good, and he worked hard with the best freelance OL coach there is following the draft.

Well maybe they didn’t develop him, but rather didn’t hurt him. Looks like they hurt their years predecessors On the line

One of my sports journalist buddies mentioned this to me as well:

If the Jets don't get Lawrence, don't count out drafting Sewell. Then you are strong at tackles and center. Fill guard need in FA where there should be more decent talent. Then use our other picks for skill positions. Sewell and Becton would be the best tackle tandem in the league for the next 10 years...there's no question.

I'm not a big believer in Sam right now, but I think we can be a good ball club if we get a better coach, a great Oline and formidable weapons around him. Think a better version of what we had on offense in 2009-10

We're not strong at center at all. McGovern has been dreadful this year. Fields is a good prize as well.

I think it would be a disaster to draft Sewell. Yes, they would be the best OT tandem in the NFL, but that and $2.50 (?) will buy you a ride on the NY Subway. Playing Sewell at RT would be a huge injustice to Sewell and would be wasting his talents. The Jets would have to take a huge portion of their salary cap to pay the two of them in years 5-10. One doesn't need to even draft a RT in the 1st round. To draft him in the top 3 would be almost criminal. Worst of all, to take Sewell, they'd be passing on their future QB, an elite WR prospect in JaMarr Chase, or a haul of draft picks.

The only way I would be happy with Douglas drafting Sewell is if we wind up drafting #7 or lower and Lawrence, Fields,Chase, Rousseau, and Waddle are already gone.

Well said but Waddle just suffered a season ending injury and no way I'm drafting him during the 1st while coming off a season ending injury. Not a chance.

I understand. It will be interesting to see what happens with Waddle in the draft. I may be mistaken, but don't think that ankle injuries are usually that severe or chronic. I just can't see him falling that far. I think some team will grab him probably in the teens, but if he falls to the Seahawks' pick in the 1st round, I'd sprint to the podium and take him.

Believe it or not but Wirfs has a better PFF grade than Becton thus far. However I rarely watch TB Buccaneers games so I have no idea how he's looked thus far

Different sport but ankle injuries can be serious. Just ask Grant Hill; his ankles stole his greatness. I wouldn't touch him with a 10 foot pole NC. It's already worse enough injuries happen on an NFL playing field galore and I don't want a player coming off a season ending injury.
