Of course not. The coaching is awful; the only coach that should be brought back in 2021 is Brant Boyer.
OK, this needs to be an honest discussion. Robby is not #2 on his team, he is #2 in entire NFL!!! Give credit where credit is due. He's been an absolute beast. And Sam does need to start playing better. He is is performing at a level of washed up Joe Flacco coming off serious injury this year. If he does not improve, his value will be exactly 0 come end of the season. I do think last game was an aberration and he will do better, but we still need a new starting QB next year among other things.
What bothers me even more, we moved up several picks and traded away 2 2nd round picks for Darnold. Last two years many said still worth the move. This year it tremendously backfired. We would still had selected a QB Whoever that would be at #6 at the time and selected 2 potentially impacted players whether at defense or offense. We shall never move up again for a QB.
I actually like DWC... I wouldn’t call him a troll...He’s a passionate jet fan just like the rest of us....While some of his post can be a little long-winded....I give the guy a lot of credit for the research that he does and the passion with which he writes his post....It’s just on this subject I respectfully disagree with the young man
I don't think anyone would have been upset if Sam was able to develop into a top QB. This is one move I am not criticizing our incompetent GM. Sure, it didn't work out, and in hindsight you are right, but at the time it was good to have your choice of all available QBs aside from Baker. There was also a talk that 3 QBs would go top 3 and 4 in top 5 via various trades (and all ended up going top 10). Sam was the one who checked most boxes, Baker was top NCAA player, but short and older, Allen had amazingly great arm and size, but inaccurate, and Rosen was very similar to Sam but with injury history and bad attitude. There was no perfect choice, but Sam and Baker seemed to be checking most boxes, with Rosen and Allen higher risk. Jackson was not in top 10 discussion due to size and accuracy worse than Allen. So, top 3 guaranteed you get one of them, while #6 didn't, plus gives you a choice (according to Todd Balls, Sam was top choice). I would say all worked out that night as far as getting top prospect Jets wanted, the only problem was that the prospect doesn't look to be panning out. That's the chance you take, for better or worse.
Thnx you man. I once loved Sam coming out of college. Everyone knows I thought Saquon Barkley was the best player in college football. I loved Barkley. Went into the Rose Bowl a Barkley fan and left a Sam Darnold dreamer. I was wrong. That one Rose Bowl performance tricked me. I ignored his lack of QB experience growing up. I ignored his mechanical flaws and weird release. I ignored his fumbles ints and turnover machine mistakes @ USC. I ignored his lack of NFL arm strength on deep balls. I allowed 1 Rose Bowl performance trick me into believing Sam was a great QB and I was wrong. To be in his 3rd season and have the 32nd rated QB Rating (dead last) and 4 2nd half yards? I'm absolutely sick of him man and feel he's another USC Bust of a QB. Maybe Macc was so bad that he messed up and selected Sam....
DWC I agree with you ..Sam’s time here is done...I just feel He can be salvaged... in the right system the right coach .. he needs to be coached up... he just never got that here ...and the right talent around him he could be a better than average QB
He is not #2 in the NFL by a long shot. Having crap tons of yards because your team is always passing because they are down doesn't make you the best. It just means you get a lot of targets. By your logic, Matt Ryan is the best QB in the NFL.
As if we need anymore proof of how lost Sam is but im sure this play is somehow the Olines fault too.
Flacco is almost 40 years old and at this point just a statue collecting a check but youre using him to try to make some kind of point? Major fail comparison.....
No it’s not the O-lines fault... Sam needed to be coached up... Gase is bad at his job ... he had a top tier pass catching RB and couldn’t figure out a way To run plays to get him the ball
How many threads do we need to rehash the opinion that Darnold isn't any good? Let me try one more time... Yes, right now, Darnold is NOT good, he's not even acceptable, and worse, he may be ruined beyond repair. If anyone wants to say that he sucks, and that he always sucked, even in college, well, that's what opinions are for, and forums like this. But it makes accepting someone's opinion much easier when there's some balance and recognition of the counterpoints to the question. Much of these "Darnold Sucks!" threads are just so one-sided! The reality is that Darnold came into a piss poor situation with a "dead coach walking" and marginal talent, and absolutely shitty talent on the OL, and not much better at the skill positions. Still, as the season wore on he actually showed some of his abilities and we all looked forward to them being developed. Bunt then came Gase, the "genius", the "QB Whisperer", along with further degradation of the talent. How anyone can dismiss the effect of all that, and moreover, the cumulative effect of it just amazes me, but that's what a few Darold haters here continue to do. That's okay, that's your right as a poster, but my right is to choose whether to give those types of posts any credence, and for me, I choose not to. I'm at the point where I agree with those who say we need to move on from Sam, for the good of him and the team. But it's a damn shame that the Jets have ruined yet another promising talent. I sure wouldn't blame Lawrence - or any top player - if they refused to play for this team.
I’m not sure I agree completely on Sam. We wouldn’t know unless we saw him play a couple of years with a good o line and some weapons. But givin the chance to get Lawrence... you take it! As long as we’re getting a new coaching staff too.
DWC we all know this. Man it’s hard to watch this team. I think Bama or Clemson would give them a run for their money. As for Sam his body language tells you everything.. He’s a kid that’s been run in the ground by changing OCs and coaches every year, lack of confidence from bad play and media.. most of all simply isn’t seeing the game fast enough at the pro level. He needs to do what Jamis Winston has done and back up a vet to salvage his career. Pitt/Indy would be a perfect spot for him. I like Sam but his time as a Jet is coming to an end along with Gase. Douglas is going to have a shot at what GMs dream about. $80+ million in cap space, a boatload of picks the next 2 years, a new coaching staff hand picked by him and Trevor Lawrence. If I’m Joe Douglas this is a dream situation because it can’t get any worse and the future has epic promise IF he knows what he’s doing.
My gut tells me that Sam is going to be Farve 2.0 Drafted by one team, kicked to the curb, then goes on to win a championship with a team that figures out how to maximize his strengths and minimize his weaknesses. Farve threw a shit-ton of interceptions and was a winner. Sam will get his chance somewhere else and I hope he finds the right fit because, god knows, this staff and this scheme suck, and they have no idea how to get the most out of him.
No , he’s a multi account holding troll who likes to repeat himself in long winded diatribes just for the attention. This isn’t an opinion this has been know around here for a long time.
Sam needed to be better than the muck of this franchise pulling him down and he isn’t. Let’s hope Lawrence is .
