My stance is that if quarterbacks can't engineer scoring drives they end up backups pretty quickly. Regardless of who is around them. They eat up the most cap space and they're the most important position on the field. You don't hold on to them and cross your fingers that they fix themselves because you drafted them with high hopes. The whole offense sucks. So does Sam. Most of my posts state that. Really good quarterbacks can mask deficiencies on an offense at times. This quarterback cannot and is looking like his ceiling is Andy Dalton based on his happy feet and inability to read plays while just staring down receivers. He's scared to throw over the middle because everytime he does it's a bad throw. He never has a clue when a blitz is coming. And he looks like he has no idea where his checkdown is when it does come. None of those things have to do with surrounding talent. The book is out on Darnold. Blitz him - he'll feel it all game and be lost.
Chad's 3d year: 69% completion, 22 TDs, 6 INTs, 104 passing rating. And this was 18 years ago, when it was harder to get stats than now. Let's not compare that to Sam's production this year.
Darnold is not good. He makes his own mistakes too, it’s not just the attrition around him. Play out 2020 and move on
This means nothing to me because my brain tells me Gase Is the worst coach I've ever seen as the HC of the NYJ. I seen a ton of talent and potential out of Sam before Gase arrived. I've watched a QB that looked just as bad, if not worse than Sam, get out from the SAME terrible HC's scheme and BS, to go to a up and coming team (Good team), take over for an actual scrub in Marriotta, and look like a top 5-10 QB, who is winning. AND, is a big factor In why they are winning. IDK.. I trust my logic. Feels sound to me. I appreciate your opinion, I just don't think it's entirely accurate.
Sam Darnold misses open receivers, over and over again. He has happy feet. I highly doubt he is coached to stare down receivers. Ryan Tannehill had much better numbers in Miami than Darnold is putting up now. Darnold is statistically one of the worst qbs in the league. The franchise isn't going to pass on Trevor Lawrence.
Jesus. Just stop. You watch every game Tannehill played have ya? You can say that based on all your knowledge of the kid? There was a reason he was given up on, ran out of town, and traded as a backup. It's because he looked bad enough In Miami to be viewed as nothing more than insurance with starter potential In a pinch. It would be the EXACT same scenario for, Darnold. Tannehill absolutely looked like trash. We as Jet fans used to trash him ALL the time even. Little did we know, once he got away from Gase. He would be what he is for a good team. It's so fucking similar it's disgusting and It amazes me that you and others are too blind to see it.
That Darnold hasn't progressed - well at first he did, but since Gase arrived he's regressed - and is making bad decisions, hasn't fixed his footwork, is playing scared, etc. does not mean that Gase DOESN'T suck,NOR THAT the talent is for the most part sub-NFL which has a direct impact on his ability to perform and/or improve. Darnold does not suck. Is he playing like shit now? Yes. But he shows flashes, and he has talent. Can the flaws in his game be fixed? Certainly not under Gase. Possibly not by anyone at this point, but I believe they can be. On the right team - the Steelers? - he can still win a SB. He won't do it here, even if they actually do get a new HC. He and the Jets need to part ways for the good of both. It's a damn shame, and it pisses me off that this team has ruined yet another promising talent. This is a terrible franchise. EDITED: See bold
Has any good QB credited Palmer with helping them become that QB? It seems like all the shit QBs go to him...
Sam is still only 23 years old. Younger than Burrow and Daniel Jones. He's got all the arm talent in the world but he caught the worst possible break with coaching. IMO if we get the 1st pick we've gotta take Lawrence and get what we can for Sam. If we play ourselves out of 1 or Lawrence stays in school I really think we should give Sam another year with a coach JD hires. We're gonna have a ton of picks and the most cap space in the league. This team is gonna look completely different next season, and hopefully be exponentially improved.
nah dude, Sam sucks man. He has no idea where the pressure is coming from, he has ZERO ability to see the field. His footwork is complete garbage 3 years later We got 4 yards in the second half!!!! I dont care bad the O line is * and its brutal) and I dont care how bad the caoch is , you give me 4 yards in a half, you gotta go
If you have an answer, please educate me oh wise one. Maybe that's why I posted in this forums, or maybe because I'm being sarcastic since I've never heard of any star QB talk about how Palmer guided their career. How about you grow up and not respond like a douchebag?
I followed that super-close. The decision to move on from him was probably supported by 80-90% of the fans. Polls and other posts still up about it.
Sam was bad in the 2nd half today. The interception before half time was also bad. I don't know how to evaluate him or Mims, or Perine, or Becton on this terrible team. They look like they have potential and could be great with a new Head Coach. That is just how I see it. Year 3 Sam looks way worse than Year 1 or Year 2 Sam. That blows my mind. I honestly don't understand it. He makes his usual flash plays, like the pass to Berrios, but then also his usual terrible plays. Inconsistency of looking like Joe Montana one drive, and then Christian Hackenberg the next. It's crazy. I still feel he can be successful if coached properly though.
You name one success story but what other Qb has left NY/Gase and looked like a great promising NFL Qb? Sanchez, Petty, Geno, Hackenberg, Petty, Fitz, and the list goes on of QBs that have left here and don’t take off and are journeymen at best. Most players it seems like just aren’t that good to begin with. No matter the situation. Tannehill appears to be the exception to the rule imo.
You don't think that when you have a horrible coach, instructing you In the wrong ways, you're not going to develop some bad habits along the way. Especially when you are going against the best of the best every single week? You don't think those issues could stem from a regression problem brought on by a mental lapse, due to horse shit coaching? He doesn't suck. He has talent. We've all seen It. He has absolutely regressed and has been fucked up for sure. He may not be fixable at this point, he may be ruined for sure, doesn't mean he doesn't have a ton of talent though. The kid was/Is definitely talented. He's just not the same. He's worse. By a lot.
