Revis over Levi Brown? Bleh. Given Mangini's system, and ability to develop CBs, I'd much rather get the RT there.
Levi Brown has the tools to be good, but hes a project and has only played RT for I believe 1 year. If your willing to wait a good 2-3 years for him to finally show promise at RT, then Levi is fine by me. But I dont think thats gonna cut it with big namers 1st rders Mangold and Fergerson on the same line as him and I know this site will kill the guy, since we torched D'Brickashaw when he got burned by Schobel two weeks ago. Maybe I shouldent do the Jets pick next time, its the pick that people love/hate you for. Then again its a Jets site.
REvis is strongly overrated..... He shouldnt pick higher that the 25th pick, he is in no way a elite corner in this draft, so drafting him would be a reach, didnt Rutgers and Teel shred him apart..... Weve got some solid CBs we just need some roleplayers, we have the safeties, we could use one, but not too early, we can wait...
The pick should either be OL/DL, unless a top 10 player drops. And considering OL is the most important part of the football team, I don't think it can ever be "too much". If it was my team, I'd pick OL or DL in the first round every year, unless I had a top pick and a need for a QB.
That's retarded. We can never have enough quality LBs for our scheme and certainly could use a CB. Now Revis may or may not be the answer, I'm not going to speculate, but we could definately use an upgrade over what we have. As far as the offense goes, we could do well with another TE who can catch or at least a big WR for the red zone to compliment our mighty mites. Running back could certainly help our team as well. Our offensive line is far from the worst part of our team and while I do not promote picking strictly based on need, (a) there are good players available at other positions and (b) strictly economically speaking, it would be a waste because you don't want to commit too much cap space to one position and (c) right tackle is a position that can historically be filled with capable players later in the draft for much cheaper. Unless your QB is a lefty there is no reason to take a Right Tackle in the first round.
I don't think it's retarded, it's just what I would prefer to do. Belichick has done it with his first pick in 5 of 7 drafts, and it's worked out okay for him. I'd certainly rather take OL or DL in the first round over CB (a position that is the last thing the Jets should pick in the 1st round, given that Mangini is great at developing CBs, and safeties are far more important in this defense).
I like revis, actually and i may be in the minority about this. But definately a great athlete and would be a good pick considering our ability to develop corners, he could be a heck of a player in this system.
Yep, you basically proved my point right there, my friend. Hank Poteat is a journeyman cornerback and he allowed one catch for twelve yards vs. Minnesota, with several breakups down the field, and I only saw one catch against him in man coverage vs. Miami. DeAngelo Hall has done nothing but suck this year, and all teams do is pick on Robinson. Pac-Man Jones has been good, I will give you that, but remember that he was a top ten pick. Fact is, we don't need a corner. All you need in a Mangini defense is dominating safeties. Both Rhodes and Coleman can tackle, and Rhodes has proven to be a playmaker. Watch some games on the Patriots from the past two years and you will realize Randall Gay started in the Superbowl. Corner in this system is a zone position, and it all relies on the front seven's pressure on the quarterback, and the safeties over the top. Nothing falls on the back of a corner, other then keeping receivers in front of you. 10P10 struck it on the head, when he said offensive line is the most important position on the field. Not only would I be happy, I'd be ecstatic if Justin Blalock or Levi Brown were added, to give this line a more nasty demeanor.
You are right we don't need a CB but it is a position we certainly could upgrade at. Pressure on the QB, like you said, can make mediocre cbs look like champions.
We were going to draft a CB I think with the Schlegal pick in 2006, but we traded back a few spots and lost out, I think to Denver. I can't remember the CB's name, but our management had already sounded him out about coming to the Jets before someone else got him. He was injured for most of this season. I think if we do pick a CB in the draft it won't be in the first or second rounds.
I'm pretty sure they intended to pick OLB Chris Gocong but the Eagles took him instead. Because of this I think the FO panicked and took the next LB on their board.
Yeah I think they did want Cocong but he's been on IR all year and I don't think they panicked with Schlegel. That may have been higher then they wanted to take him but then they might have lose out on Smith or Leon.
