I think you're onto something. Due to lockdown, our whole team skipped goal-line orientation day.

    Aw shit.

This was a bad day to buy a Steve McLendon jersey.

Bell and McClendon were teammates on the Steelers. Bell gets released and a week later McClendon gets traded.

Seems like at least a possibility the two things were related.

If they had both ended up at KC then possibly but who knows what is going on behind the scenes, SMC came across really well in the preseason videos, one thing for sure is he would hate losing and I can see him saying something man to Gase and the worm not caring for it but then that would imply that JD is complicit to what Gase wants and at this stage I can't think anything else but Gase is dead man walking.

It could be as simple as JD gathering in picks for the draft.

It will all come out in the wash in the end.

I know we’re embracing the tank but a 2022 late-round pick is scant reward. Douglas obviously feels confident he’s going to be around another two seasons to use it. Why not push for a 2021 pick? We’ll have about 50 holes on the roster this coming offseason.

given our success rate with late round picks i know we will turn this pick into a legitimate starter for the next decade!

You sure? I don’t remember the last draft class we got two legit starters from.

Not much gained in this trade, a swap 6th for 7th, plus we get 6th a bit earlier than we give up 7th, but also not much lost. Much like Bell, Steve is not coming back next season, and there is a young guy waiting to get PT, who might: https://www.newyorkjets.com/news/folorunso-fatukasi-made-big-strides-in-2nd-season-as-a-jet

Like with Bell, fits the strategy with focus on core players beyond this season and the draft. For all the huge news about Bell release, no one wanted a piece of his contract and gave up nothing to ensure they get him, while Steve actually was able to fetch some value.

Shit-- if we can use it to draft a kicker who is as good as our punter, it's a damn steal!

2022 pick could be higher 6th round pick than 2021 pick especially if Brady keeps aging not that it really matters too much, its just a 6th rounder. McClendon wasn't going to be here next year anyway and the way things have gone this year its likely JD will sign more FA than he loses so its unlikely they would have gotten a comp pick if they just let him play out the year. Given that background and his age its not a bad deal, better shot a 6th rounder makes the roster than a 7th and a 6th can be packaged with other picks if needed, a 7th is pretty much useless for trade purposes.

I've always disliked McLendon. He's nothing like a Kris Jenkins. He doesn't impact. Our run defense sucked with him before Jamal and it's been atrocious against the run (once again) without Jamal. One of the most overrated Jets I've ever watched and easily replaceable with a mid round pick. I never wanted Steve here. The Steelers have never missed him and he's never improved our defense. When a SS is your run defense? And your DT/NT never was? Red flag. He's turning 35 with 0 Pro Bowls and 0 All Pros and was overrated because he came from a Steelers franchise.

You want a dominant NT/DT? Well then look elsewhere because Steve is not your answer. I'm so glad he's finally gone.
