Dalton played poorly but he was also under siege all game. For all of the talent these receivers have, there were dropped balls and bad efforts all over that football field yesterday. There's no bringing a QB in mid-season anyway and finding any success with him. It'd take 2-3 weeks to get minimally comfortable with the offense and receivers. Not to mention the Cowboys would probably offer a third or fourth for Sam right now.
True the way he's played for his 3 years here , he doesn't warrant a 1st pick, 3rd or 4th pick is about right
They won't trade Darnold until they have a new QB secured. I know everyone is all aboard the Trevor Lawrence train, but there are like nine teams with one win. The Jets are just a fluke victory away from dropping to the 4th or 5th pick. Secure the 1st pick, then move Darnold for whatever the best offer is.
This - guys, Darnold isn’t going anywhere until the Jets have a viable/better option. I know that he’s lost the confidence of most Jet fans - but he will be a good QB in the NFL. There should be no rush to trade him - particularly at the bottom of his trade value. I’m curious to see how he does when everyone returns to the line up (becton, mims, perriman and fant [both playing with Darnold] - I’m inclined to say that he will look good and I’m nervous that we may win some games (which i don’t want.). The saving grace on that front is that the Jets have the hardest schedule in the NFL the rest of the way (so they may not win even if he plays well) and they’re keeping Gase around. the Jets aren’t winning any tiebreakers for the 1st pick
Every time I skim past this thread title my eyes report “Darnold to Cowboys”. Certainly a me problem, but really annoying.
In the first half the cowboys missed multiple blocking assignments on blitzes, lost two fumbles, and dropped an easy TD pass. Dalton had to make a great play just to avoid a safety. I rarely saw a Cowboys wideout get separation all night. Then when Dalton throws an int after Jeudy falls down on the route the announcers just started dumping on Dalton with both barrels. Hate to break the news to the biased MNF announcers but Dalton wasn't an all pro last night but he also wasn't the reason they lost.
Dalton is more proven than Sam and knows the Cowboys offense. The Jets would also be risking QB hell by trading Sam, winning a few games, and falling out of the Lawrence Sweepstakes.
That team has fully given up on McCarthy already it looks like too. Everyone sitting down hanging out on the sidelines with their heads hung. No energy. Thought it was the Jets sideline.
This makes less than 0 sense. You have no assurance that you will get the QB you want in the draft. If Darnold is traded, it will NOT be before the season is over. Dallas wouldn’t do it anyway. There isn’t enough time for him to learn a system and make a difference. If Darnold is traded after the season, it will likely be to a team like Tampa Bay, Pittsburgh, or more likely Indianapolis. Indy makes the most sense to me.
I think I like SFO and Denver as possible locations. In both cases he'd be part of the competition at QB not the guaranteed starter.
If JD was willing to listen to trade offers mid season last year for a pro bowler, All Pro and future HOF player in Adams? Well then he better be listening to offers for Sam Darnold too. QB vs. SS etc it doesn't matter because Jamal is just a better and more impactful player than Sam. And admit it. Face it. Jamal played on a horrible defense (talent wise) ala just look @ our D without him. Jamal improved an entire unit; Sam hasn't. And Sam can't. Jamal got us 2 first round picks. Sam would be lucky to get us a 2nd or 3rd. And if JD traded Jamal Adams after the draft? Well then JD better trade Sam either during the season, on draft night or after the draft as well. I want Sam gone. Only because with that 2nd or 3rd or even 4th round pick we can use it to surround Trevor Lawrence. We aren't going to miss out on the 1st pick, people. We are 0-6 and coming off a 0-24 loss vs a bad Dolphins team. If someone offered us a 2nd or godforsaken a 1st for Sam? JD makes the trade in a heartbeat. Sam's time here is done. He's the same turnover machine with a weird release point that he was @ USC. Regardless of our lack of offensive talent he hasn't made his teammates better he's actually been as bad as they have. Something you can't say about Jamal as a Jet. He never even had the arm strength to utilize Robby Anderson the way Robby needed to be featured. Trevor Lawrence would have been amazing with Robby Anderson because Trevor, unlike Sam; has an absolutely beautiful deep ball and a cannon for an arm. Even if we traded Sam and somehow missed Trevor. Well. Then. JD still gets his QB in Justin Fields or Trey Lance during top 5 but regardless Sam Darnold is mentally ruined and physically he's not a special arm.
Everyone needs to end this folly, Sam is not getting traded this year. Smart would be not to even trade him next year. If we are lucky enough to draft Lawrence you let them fight it out in camp. Most likely Darnold would win and start next season to begin with. Only chance of trading Sam for any value at all would have to include him starting next year and looking good. If he has a fifth year, you could exercise and market him. Given our history of draft picks, trading Sam for a fourth round pick, or even a third would be a waste. More value in keeping him to push Lawrence, start if not ready and then be a viable backup. You know the Jets will not spend anywhere near the cap, so that is not a worry.
