He can't fire Gase. Both he and Gase report to Chris. Chris is the one who can do that, but he called Gase a brilliant offensive mind last month.

That sums it up perfectly, how embarrassing and what a disgrace this organization is. The man can't even hide it anymore

Idzik had the same personnel staff that Tannenbaum did. There were a couple of cosmetic changes but the guys who ran personnel before Idzik was hired, the guys who ran the scouting department, they were all the same until Idzik got fired and then they mostly got fired also.

I have no idea if Idzik was unable to get people to come to the Jets or if he improbably did not have hiring privileges as Jet GM. For 2014 they brought in a buddy of his from Arizona, mainly because he seemed kind of isolated in the culture.

Douglas does not have the authority to fire Gase...they are equals under the Johnsons stupid hierarchy chart.

Some posters have argued that Douglas is a "Gase guy" and are arguing he should go along with Gase. Just a few points here:

    1) Joe D was actually the hottest GM candidate along with the Vikings guy available, the Texans were reportedly going to pursue him if we didn't. We got the hot name in that search, it just so happens him and Gase are friends.

    2) It's way too early to judge Joe Douglas, need to give him at least a 3 year window to see his guys develop--it's not like there is another hot GM candidate out there to replace him with. We have the "hot" name...

    3) Joe D is very respected in the league and has connections, which is why we are doing better in trades and negotiation. This willl help us attract a better coach this time, free agents, scouts etc.

Don't lose hope on a promising GM because he happens to be friends with Gase. That's like saying, Peyton sucked as a QB because he was chummy with Gase....one doesn't validate the other.

Why do you keep making nonsensical posts like this? Douglas cannot fire Gase! Get that through your head. Douglas and Gase are peers. The only persons who can fire Gase are the Johnsons, and Woody may have told Chris to not do anything until he gets home. Enough with your theories. DOUGLAS CANNOT FIRE GASE!!!!!

Good post, but you're probably wasting your time. We have some Jets fans who are totally ignorant about the Jets' org chart, yet are full of theories and opinions about Douglas. They're not going to let facts get in their way. It's laughable that anyone would want to fire Douglas. It shows how little they know about the Jets and football.

What is he forgetting about Idzik? Idzik was a clueless idiot. There is nothing even remotely comparable between Idzik and Douglas.

How did Idzik strip the team down? I don't believe for one minute that Idzik had any kind of coherent plan. He had zero experience in scouting and personnel. He didn't know which players were good and which ones were bad. He had no clue how to evaluate talent. His draft was probably THE worst in NFL history. His idea of stripping the team down was to waste all of its draft picks. It's not even remotely the same. Get real! Idzik was an administrator with the Seahawks. He didn't work in scouting and personnel. I'm not sure if he even negotiated contracts. Ironically, administration was one of the worst things he did with the Jets. It was said that a lot of people in the front office and administration were ready to quit because Idzik was a lousy communicator and had zero personality or warmth. He was hesitant and slow to make decisions. I'm shocked that you think that the two are comparable. I'm sorry, but it's utterly laughable that you think he had some plan like Douglas and that the two are comparable.

    You're spot on.

Our toxic environment doesn't help in our recruitment efforts of top tier talent.

Think about it, if you have the choice of going to Atlanta/Houston or our market where we have a toxic media environment--which would you pick?

The lone selling point is true though--if you can be a star here...you are among the greatest memories in sports. So there's that.

When I saw this shot of JD holding is face in his hands, I literally LOL. It was priceless. But as much as JD gets kudos for tearing down this team for a "real" rebuild, I for one will not absolve him for fielding this untalented team. So Joe, your bought the spoiled groceries (Parcell's Quote) and are responsible for this shit show you help create, continue to watch and feel our pain. You deserve it.

Bucs 6th round pick in 2022 for McClendon and Jets 7th round pick in 2023. I wasn’t even aware you could trade with 2023 picks.

At what point in the game did JD facepalm? I only saw him using his cellphone or looking bored.

You can't have it both ways. That makes no sense. You can't give him kudos for tearing down the team for a real rebuild, and then turn around and criticize him for the shit show. If you acknowledge that the team needs a true rebuild and give him kudos for recognizing that and for taking the necessary steps to begin that process, then you don't worry about what happens this year, you know it may be bad, but that doesn't matter, and you don't criticize him for it.

The thing is even when a gm strips down a team for a rebuild, they start to add their type of players. Guys on special teams, guys with potential on offense ,and defense. In the NFL a team is not made out of 52 or 45 stars. These guys are the backbone of the team. JD has not brought in anybody who might be on our rooster in 3 yrs except Becton

You don't know that, and you're already wrong, because Mann will be. I'm not a betting man, but would also wager than Mims, Davis, and quite possibly a few others like Clark, Cager, Huff, Morgan, and Zuniga might be.

If he was on his cellphone he was probably blessing his agent out for not talking him out of taking the Jets' job.
