Mets score 3 in the top of the 1st, Lugo gives up 3 straight home runs in the bottom of the first to make it 3-3. The fourth batter only gets a triple and scores later to make it 4-3. The Mets are only a couple of games out of a playoff spot, but it sure feels like they're one of the worst teams in baseball.
Mets amazingly come all the way back to win 10-6, with the bullpen going 7 1/3 giving up no runs and 1 hit. I guess they're going to force us to care all the way to the end before the big fat disappointment.
First 13 batters, 7 hits (2 doubles, 1 home run), 3 walks, 1 wild pitch. And Rojas doesn't have a relief pitcher ready to bring in.
Maybe he’s doing this to assuage the other owners. https://twitter.com/joelsherman1/status/1309091650510168066?s=21
Huh? I don't get it. Does anyone think that Alderson is the person who will tell Cohen whether to bring in a big ticket free agent rather than Cohen telling Alderson? I don't see the point to this, other than broadcasting as loudly as can be that BVW is on his way out.
Two months ago, when they announced the expanded playoffs as the season started, I posted this: How nice to be 100% correct in my prediction. All I can do is think back to 55 or so years ago, when I became a lifelong Mets and Jets fan, and recall this scene in "Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade":
Can Cohen just buy the Tampa Rays staff up? Talk about an organization that does a lot with a little.
We stunk for so long. We were the laughing stock of all of sports. It was so bad. We had to change the name of our team to Rays while removing the word DEVIL from it. We were in hell for so long it gave us time to develop a top notch farm system full of young talent. Focused on PITCHING and defense. When we lost Joe Maddon to the Cubs? People around baseball thought the Rays would die and go back to our Devil Ray days. Nope. Didn't happen. We've gotten BETTER because we have a front office that believes in both farm system and underdogs. Sorry Met fans. The Rays staff belongs to the Rays and we aren't going anywhere anytime soon! Don't do it the Yankees way. Hundred million dollar sluggers. Do it the Rays way; build up the farm system and get a manager who's a players coach who players love to play for.
Mets sale to Stevie approved by the MLB owners. https://sports.yahoo.com/mets-sale-steve-cohen-approved-175154532.html
Forget Covid- if DeBlasio prevented this from going through he’d have blood on his hands. Literally taking the lives of Mets fans
The deal is done, as the city signs off. That was always a completely made-up story from de Blasio's political opponents (it's not a coincidence that the Post and Fox 5 were the two entities pushing it) that he was too stupid to just quash from the start. https://www.nydailynews.com/sports/...0201030-t5hj3ebvp5deff7mipn3p5n7f4-story.html
If I’m Stroman I’d take the Mets offer. Try to get a better deal next season. He’d get a multi year deal elsewhere but it wouldn’t be what in his mind he thinks he’s worth. Not with the Financial hit these teams took. I’d take the Mets offer and aim for my mega contract next year. Though if I’m being honest he didn’t impress me here but pitchers don’t grow on trees.
It's officially official. https://www.newsday.com/sports/baseball/mets/steve-cohen-mets-owner-1.50058900 Break open that wallet, Steve.
