On Friday, defensive coordinator Gregg Williams took a veiled shot at coach Adam Gase's offense, suggesting the defensive struggles aren't entirely the fault of the defense. Williams probably was referring to the fact that the offense was responsible for 12 points allowed -- two Sam Darnold interceptions returned for touchdowns in a Week 3 loss to the Indianapolis Colts. The offense also has made it tough on the defense by averaging only 15 points per game and ranking near the bottom of the league in total yards and time of possession. But Williams' unit hasn't fared much better, yielding 394 yards per game and ranking last in third-down defense. "We have been put in some unfortunate situations as far as field position," safety Bradley McDougald said. "At the end of the day, our job is to go out there and prevent points," he added. "We just got to go out there and make more plays." This has been a tumultuous week for the Jets, who released running back Le'Veon Bell after he clashed with Gase for more than a year and complained about his role. Gase has been tight-lipped since Bell's ouster. He declined to comment Friday when asked about Bell signing with the Kansas City Chiefs. "Focusing on Miami, man," he said. The 0-5 Jets, who face the Miami Dolphins on Sunday, are allowing 32.2 points per game, worse than every team except the Dallas Cowboys. "It's not a very good number -- and a lot of it's not all defensively," Williams said after Friday's practice. "It's points on the board and we've got to do a good job of that and how you do that is make them kick more field goals, got to do a better job in field-position-type things. "As you see, the scoring is up in the league, but it still makes me sick," he said. Seven words hung in the air: "A lot of it's not all defensively." When asked what he meant by that, Williams turned cryptic. "You'd have to figure it out," he said, ending his video call with reporters. The embattled Gase wasn't available to comment, as he already had spoken to reporters.
Gase isn't the only toxic piece of shit in the building, Williams should go right with Gase on the Musk rocket to Mars. Or maybe keep them both because if the tank ain't broke...
Williams is becoming exposed without Jamal Adams. His blitz packages have became stale. He's becoming worse than Rex after our two runs under Ryan. Our Defense is also very undisciplined under this freaking wack job of a DC. I absolutely hate Gregg Williams as our DC as of late and honestly, any grown man who forces kids/young men into hurting opposing players should not be allowed to coach football anymore. He's a POS coward and a scumbag for making his own players go out there and attempt to injure opposing players on the field. Pete Rose was banned from baseball for gambling on his own team to win. Gregg Williams should be banned from football for forcing his teammates to attempt to ruin other players careers of the opposite team. He's a scumbag and a prick.
I don't understand it. These guys look so good in slow-motion. On One Jets Drive. Williams is getting exposed this year. And to try and say it's because the offense isn't doing its job is just lame. The Jets get down big and they get down early. You can't be worn down in the first half, ffs. These are professional athletes. I can't understand some people wanting him as interim head coach if Gase is canned. I think he's a poisonous individual.
They want him as interim HC for a couple of reasons. One he is the only one on the CS with HCing experience. He did a good job as interim with Cleveland a few years ago, and was HC of the Bills from 2001-2003. He's the only one on the CS that makes any sense at all. One surely couldn't have Loggains as interim HC. It's never made sense to me why some posters would want Boyer. He has only been a coach for 7 years. From 2012-2015 he was only assistant STs Coach with the Colts. He has been the Jets STs Coordinator since 2016. He has zero HCing experience, and no experience coaching any other position or unit.
Williams obviously knows his time here is over, and is trying to cover his ass to get his next job. It's obvious bullshit - considering the talent available, I would argue that the defense has underperformed just as badly as the offense has. When the defense is completely gassed midway through the third quarter in game after game, that's the defensive coach's fault, not the offense's fault. When the defense is unable to come within 3 yards of the QB for 5 seconds or more on every play, that's the defensive coach's fault, not the offense's fault. When receivers are wide open all the time, that's the defensive coach's fault, not the offense's fault.
The offense stinks no doubt. But they aren't forcing the defense to continually jump offsides, hold WRS, or commit endless personal fouls on 3rd down. How many drives this season have been kept alive by bonehead penalties?
I agree with Williams that you need to play complimentary football and the offense being off the field so much hurts the defense, but you don't say that out loud unless you are an ass. What about the Broncos game when they had the lead 28-27 and the D blew it against a 3rd string QB who they had previously rattled the last few drives? How about when Flacco made it 17-10 last week? You need to give him the ball back to make it 17-17. Instead, Arizona scores easy to go up 24-10. The defense has been horrendous. The worst I have seen a Jets defense in longer than I can remember. We have reached the pointing fingers part of the meltdown. Everyone (even a sunshiner like me) knows the season is over and completely ruined despite there being 11 games left. We all know there needs to be a complete overhaul with a new Head Coach, new Offensive Coordinator, new Defensive Coordinator, and many assistant coaches. If not, this news would be worrisome. Since it doesn't really matter anymore, it is just more embarrassment for the franchise that already has a lot of it............
Not sure why they say it was thinly veiled. He pretty much states it... but whatever. The best thing Christopher Johnson can do is just let Joe Douglas fire every other employee in the building. This franchise needs a complete reset.
