And the fact that the Raiders drafted Fabian Washington with our #1 that year while everyone was clamoring for the Jets to take Justin Miller with that pick. Ironic how we still got Miller in the 2nd round.
By this comment are you finally admitting that the converse is true? That Herm and his staff didn't benefit from TB's moves...not because they weren't good moves, but because Herm couldn't coach his way out of a paper bag!!! Seriously, has any other NFL coach over the past 5 years, done less with more, than what Herm Edwards did with the Jets?
Is Bradway the worst GM ever? Refer to: MATT MILLEN. I rest my case. *I do think Bradway was a sub-par GM, and he is better off as a scout, but harping on him is getting out of hand, it seems...*
Fine. In the end, the Jets did get Rhodes, Miller, and Nugent. But why not trade the first rounder for the other picks straight up? Was taking Jolley supposed to be a negative in the swap for the Jets? The Jets could have kept their original picks and taken the same guys. What did Jolley add?
He took over a team that had missed the playoffs the 2 years before he got there and he guided them to 3 in 4- that shows me the tam got BETTER. The only 2 years they missed is when they lost Chad for a majority of the season. Are you serious? leading up to the draft all the talk was we wanted Miller and Nugent and we got both AND Jolley(so he didn't work out, who cares? he's inconsequesntial) AND the pick that led to Kerry Rhodes. That wwas one of the best trades in Jets history.
Well Jolley came to us at a 3rd round value in that trade, so he was basically a 3rd round pick that didn't work out. Not to mention he also didn't have a good QB throw to him all year.
Dominate????? DOMINATE????? look at him now! 5 linemen, and they STILL had to keep a back in against DRob! Most Dominating Downlineman in football.....!
Bradway could not have taken the steps that Tannenbaum took to get us out of cap hell. T'Baum did a masterful job of reworking contracts and tightening the purse strings. Tannenbaum's draft was clearly success. Free agent signings by Tannenbaum on the other hand were very weak. Clement was the best, Poteat second, Kimo was a full year starter (but will be gone next year), Ryan contributed. Ramsey, Barlow, Dwight, and scores of others didn't help us at all.
Bradway is a good talent evaluator and a lousy general manager. He did have some solid draft picks like Mckenzie, Jordan, Moss, Hobson, Vilma, Rhodes, Robertson while not worth the money or where he was drafted is a nice player. As a gm he got raped in the Jolley trade even though I like Miller and Nugent he should have gotten back more then a scrub like Jolley or just taken Heath Miller. He didn't tender the highest level for Coles which in turn cost us Moss. Basically the job he's doing now as a scout is the job he should have. Let Tannenbaum and Mangini work the system while he writes up reports.
Barlow was a big part of beating New England. So while I agree that his overall contribution was low he did make a huge contribution to our most important win in 2 years.
* Parcell's Starters (2): Pennington Ellis * T'Baum Starters (6): Ferguson Mangold Clement Dyson Kimo Poteat (Is he starting because Barrett has been hurting?) * Bradway Starters (14): Houston Askew Cotchery Coles Kendall B. Moore Baker Rhodes Coleman Hobson Vilma Barton Thomas Robertson I expect many of Bradway's guys will be back next year as starters.
Bradway did do a solid job. But a lot of the guys he drafted have really started to blossom under the new regime.
True. I think Bradway's failures were more in line with managing the salary cap and a coach who was way too conservative, a terrible game manager and who would favor over-the-hill veterans over up and comers.
People read in the papers written by jerkoffs like Steve Serby that 'the Jets traded Doug Jolley for their first rounder' and take it for fact. It's why journalists need to be prosecuted more often to keep their 'journalistic integrity' intact.
If you credit Pennington and Ellis as Parcells starters, then credit Coles as one too. Parcells drafted him. Many of Bradway's guys will be back, because you can't take a team over in one year and start a new player from your regime. I think I see your point, but it seems like your stretching it a bit.
