Yeah but again. Do you want Luke Kuechly (ILB) or Matt Kalil (LT), Justin Blackmon (WR), or Morris Claiborne (CB)? I'll take Luke Kuechly and so will you. If you simplify the draft into taking positions of need you're going to at times end up with the 42nd best player rather than the 5th best. This needs to be done within reason of course. We shouldn't have much of an issue with this. It's a fantastic draft for offensive players and at the positions we need to fix (WR/RB/interior OL) with the Lawrence prize at the top.
I'm not advocating simply "taking positions of need" independent of their relative overall ranking, hence "Best Player Available at a Position of Need" sort of "BPAPON" if you will. Secondly, of course it all needs to be done with reason! That's why the "BPA every way and every way" approach followed by Macc, and advocated bvy some here, is a recipe for failure. It's responsible for the DT ad nauseum, and using the tow first picks on Safeties when the team had so many other holes, including and especially QB. And yes, there are times you WOULD take a DT, ILB, Safety that is the clear consensus BPA which is why I said "almost never". If an Aaron Donald suddenly fell to the Jets that would be a time to "break the rule" of course. But BPA all the time is lazy and a prime reason we have shit for talent today.
And offensive weapons?Worst group in the NFL going on 10 yrs? Completely overmatched in a game of match ups? No team speed or athleticism what so ever? Fuck it.Im through arguing w this fan base.
Ozzie Newsome is going to have a chat with him. Dude you have until end of the month to get creative in a trade, why would you rush to release him where he can help you more for the next couple of weeks?
You are giving JD too much credit. I think he actually thought we would have competitive team in playoff talk! He and Gase tied at hip, so of course he is disappointed with 0-5. I don’t think JD would purposely tank! And I think he thinks the team will turnaround with Gase. That said scary thought. Worst thing could happen we win couple of games!!! I think we should use our two first rounders on a Quarterback And Non-quarterback Of Need. As an acronym that's...oh shit...
This is a philosophical debate. Of course we need weapons, but we need a core first. Do you expect results overnight? This is the hand that Douglas was dealt. Its going to take 2 or 3 drafts. Maybe you should switch teams.
I am not sure they are tied at the hip... I have nothing to substantiate that thought but he seems like a straight shooter and wants to build something.... Lets assume the following... If he, JD, is as good as all of you think he is, then he absolutely knows that AG is a abject failure as a HC. That being said, if JC approached him for input regarding mid-season firing, I would think he would say something like: make an objective argument abouy the current situation, i.e., injuries, OL not gelling, etc. In other words, give him till end of season but if the team doesn't progress esp SAM, then he is not the answer. essentially this is a Win-Win for him because ,,,,1) keeps him at arms length from AG if the team continues to falter and therefore can say at the end of the year it didn't pan out, Gase is not the answer and will not be tarred with the same brush as Gase while giving him a shot at #1 (provided team goes 0-16) and 2) if for some inexplicable reason the team all of a sudden gets competitive and win games - including SAM playing well - then he is looks like a genius to CJ for giving him the advice. Also, if #1 works out (and I personally want that to happen) then he will be part of the search committee for new HC and set the draft up for #1 selection....
When have i said i expected results overnight? I expected the team to get better after a GM’s first offseason. It didnt happen.Quite the contrary. Is it unreasonable to criticize the notion of trying to build a “core” up front AGAIn while continuing to ignore how putrid the team is on the boundary? Oh and by way.. Namath/Philbin/Hill/MAYNARD/BOOZER Bradshaw/Greene/Lambert/Webster/STALLWORTH Aikman/Lett/Maryland/Allen/SMITH/IRVIN Favre/Brown/Butler/Timmerman/FREEMAN Manning/Glenn/Freeney/Sanders/JAMES/HARRISON WTF do i know? Skill players arent apart of a meaningful core. According to you its grounds to switch teams.. given how vehemently i disagree w your “philosophy” & like minded philosophy from other Jet fans dating back 15 yrs who cant see the forest through the trees maybe you’re onto something. Please spare me the “it all starts up front” GARBAGE. That said ill take switching teams under advisement. I cant listen to the same philisophival shortcomings that the actual team undertakes any longer.
I am beginning to think more and more that there is no genius to JD. I have no confidence him making the 4 first round picks in the next 2 years. Judging by his offseason pickups his evaluation of talent is suspect.
There is nothing genius about losing Jamal Adams, Robby Anderson, Le'Veon Bell along with being 0-5 while Sam Darnold looks worse than ever. There is nothing genius about his Free Agent additions (they all stink). And outside of Becton there is nothing genius about his draft class. Nothing genius about walking away with ONLY DENZEL MIMS during one of the deepest WR draft class of all time. JD is absolute trash and was never a GM before the Jets (and for a reason too).
My Ideal scenerio is we get the 1 overall, we trade back a couple of spots for a 2nd rounder in 2021 and a 1st rounder in 2022 use the 3-5th overall pick on rousseau. that covers edge. then we have a late 1st, 2 early 2nds, and early 3rd, and a late 3rd and can use those 5 picks to load up on WR, CB and maybe an o-line or RB with one of the 3rds. if we could grab say 2 WRs 2 CBs and a RB with those 5 picks that could be nice. take a project lineman in the 4th. round out the rest with BPA. then for 2022 we would have 3 1st rounders a 2nd and a 3rd for the 1st 2 days of the draft to round out more. the 2021 rookies with 2 new WRs plus mims and probably keep crowder and jeff smith could be a decent group. and 2 new CBs to go with bless plus we have 2 more young ones form this year. We'll have plenty of money as well to get a veteran WR and some good ones could shake free cause the cap situation. if JD fires gase in the offseason and plays it well we could compete in 2022. but that means building around sam
honestly this year reminds me of the idzik year. shed all the talent, shitty draft despite 12 picks, tons of cap room, shitty coaching. poor product
it's clear ownership doesn't give a flying fuck about the fan base or the product on the field though
Another thing that angers me about this guy is if you go back and read his comments about Robby and Adams before they were traded he knew how good they were and still they're no longer with the team. It makes no sense. At this point the destruction of the Jets roster can't be denied. Why he chose this route is the question. How could anyone look at the Jets roster from last season with so many recent top 10 picks including a top three QB from the golden QB class of 2018 and think that another total tear down - rebuild is just what the doctor ordered? Sabotage? Is he a Patriots double agent or Dolphins or Bills?
Agree. I just think if we draft Lawerence unlike the last regime I do believe Douglas will surround him with talent. He'll kick the can another year to support Lawerence. That being said if a good one is there at the right time he'll pick him.
I would hate that. The NFL isn't 3 yards and a cloud of dust any more. It is a passing league. The very name "Jets" reflects a dynamic offense that is fast-paced. Aside from a couple of years under Rex and a couple under Parcells, the most successful, and enjoyable years of our team were when we had dynamic passing offenses. We didn't have a game manager at QB. We had strong arm QBs who were aggressive and could make every throw. Turning us into another version of the Titans would be equivalent to keeping Gase as HC.
