I'm in this camp at least with regard to a DT who gets penetration. Aaron Donald was instant impact but even he improved in the following years. Much easier to get two OL in front of you

Pretty much a gross generalization but good DE are often instant impact: are you faster than the veteran in front of you

That said, i think it's water under the bridge. I'm rooting for Q and being patient.

It is and there's exceptions both ways. The difference is that college edge rushers usually work on pass rush moved and use them more frequently because the time to pass is quicker in college. Elite college defensive tackles (like Quinnen Williams was) usually have rare combos of speed and power that they can either run by guards or bowl right over them.

Either way - the whole defense needs to be refashioned into a 4-3. Quinnen Williams needs to play next to a bigger end that can play the run, while putting a nose tackle and speed rusher on the other side (hopefully Zuniga). Williams is taking over as the best player so the defense should be built around him.

Williams rotates D lineman so much, it is hard to say if it is a conditionIng issue that takes away snaps or just Greg Williams being Greg Williams.

I've noticed that too. That's why we have 8 defensive lineman for four spots and 4 OLB for two spots. Put the best players in there.

Him and Franklin Myers have been our two best interior pass rushers so far this year.

Shep has been non existent so far. Still need someone on the outside. Basham has his moments and Huff has started to flash (went from 7 snaps to around 42 on the short turnaround week). Expect Huff’s PT to continue to rise.

They should have selected a player that would have filled more obvious needs at the time, such as offensive line.

So you'd prefer Jonah Williams or Chris Lindstrom, both apart of two of the leagues offensive lines?

Week 5 update for these two.

Allen took the game off to rest his knee and Q did nothing spectacular. Meh.

    Quinnen Williams

    10 tackles
    9 assists
    2 sacks
    1 forced fumble
    214 defensive snaps

    Josh Allen

    4 tackles
    2 assists
    2 sacks
    193 defensive snaps

Q has talent but relative to the way the NFL is structured today he just doesn't have a big enough impact on games to justify taking him where he was. Unless you're Aaron Donald you don't take the DT there. Look at how wretched we were at CB, OT, WR at that point...and they draft a dumb, talented, but frustratingly inconsistent DT

TJ Hockenson would do more for this team than Quinnen Williams at this point

In retrospect trade out. Get into the 2nd round and grab a DK Metcalf or AJ Brown

Hockenson has now played 16 games and has 47 catches for 547 yards/4 touchdowns. Do you think the pitchforks wouldn't be out equally as much for him as well?

I like him but he was a massive reach at 8. Quinnen Williams wasn't considered a massive reach at the time even if he wasn't considered a good fit for the Jets (by Jets fans specifically).

He was a massive reach for the Jets based on what they needed.

I realize we wouldn't have taken Hockenson. But at this point the Jets would at least have a TE who could develop into a 70 catch guy or so.

The real move was to trade down and grab offensive players. Williams was not all world enough for us to take at that position

Well. All reports point to even the dumbfuck that was Maccagnan searching for a trade down with no takers so I think that option was explored with no success.

You would've been happy with Jonah Williams or Chris Lindstrom? Andre Dillard?

It's easy to look at that draft and think damn we should've had DK Metcalf or AJ Brown. We also could've had JJ Arcega-Whiteside or Andy Isabella too though.

Hollywood Brown and Erik McCoy with an acquired 2nd rounder would've been nice.

I stand by the Quinnen pick. It’s just like any other position. Dude is always going to be doubled as he’s the best player and is useless without a good edge rusher.
