I don't think anyone will trade for Sam until he off of the injury report.

No reason for Dallas to make this trade now. They have a better QB already waiting behind Dak.

If they were to make this move, it would have to be made along with the firing of Gase, as trading your starting QB midseason is an "official" move in the direction of giving up on the season.

Trading Darnold and keeping Gase, LOL. A true definition of insanity. Isn't this franchise enough of a joke?

Sounds good, but JD might be forced to go the Sam route in the future if we miss out on the overall pick. JD might be forced to surround Sam with talent in Sam's contract year, and give it a go.

BUT....if JD is starring at the first overall, Sam is history. JD will probably get a 2nd and maybe a 2022 4th, but getting Trevor Lawrence on a 5 yr rookie deal with all that draft capital to surround TL with talent will be far too tempting.

Sam for Lamb straight up. Lawrence to Lamb would be sick for the next decade. Get 'er done JD!

Some players can bet you two 1st round picks. Unfortunately for us, Sam isn't even worth a 4th right now. He's done.

Why would the Cowboys trade a great young receiver for an older QB that is below average in every metric? Especially since they have 2 QB's who are already better than Sam.

If you could get a 1 for him, in a heartbeat, but he just hasn't played well enough to fetch a 1

Wow I’m thinking about how you text this... JD Maybe FORCED to surround Sam with talent .. that be a nice idea... oh wait isn’t that what good organizations do for what they think is there FQB ..IF that was done in the first place then we could really evaluate Sam.... J Allen, Baker mayfield, just to name a few QBs was given talent to work with... why not Sam ? Oh I forgot! We’re the Jets

Personally I love Sam and have high hopes for him.

But I was trying to look at the situation through a GM's eyes. If Jets end up with the #1 overall pick, JD can either trade down and get firepower for Sam (to go along with the new contract JD will have to give Sam).

Or......well, you know the alternative. I think ANY GM would take the alternative. The 5 yr rookie contract would be a no-brainer.

edit: in fact the lure of a fresh 5yr rookie contact is so great JD might even go this route even if he's picking 2nd or 3rd, with a new QB no ones talking about yet.

    What is this thread about???
Unless you think Dak's career is over, why on Earth would you trade for Sam?
    Ridiculous idea.

Even in the short term, they're going to run away with that horrible division this year with Dalton at QB.
If they're going to make any trades it will be for someone who can cover ... or tackle.

The fact that most responses in this thread agree with the OP is unbelievable to me. Maybe Jets fans DON'T deserve nice things. And how some of these responses talk about Darnold truly is moronic. How do people not understand that the NFL is a team sport? No QB would be doing well with the Jets.

As for trading Darnold right now, as you said: there is no guarantee the Jets are getting Lawrence or the #1 pick. You could end up with no QB and a bunch of draft picks. Awful.

People are so reactionary these days it blows my mind. It's a pandemic. The Jets roster is terrible. The Jets coach is terrible. So you instantly give up on a young QB with a bright future? I mean, it is pathetic to read.

What’s mind boggling to me is everyone agrees at this point that Gase is terrible, possibly the worst HC of all time. Everyone has seen Tannehill(who can’t hold Darnold’s jock as far as talent goes) thrive once free of Gase yet the fans have turned on Darnold.

I haven’t watched enough of Lance or Fields yet to form a strong opinion but at this point if I have the 1st pick I’m going with the no brainer and taking Lawrence. If I have the 2nd or beyond I’m bringing in a new HC and giving Darnold a chance with new HC and some talent around him.

Either way this thread is beyond stupid.

Fans gonna fan, that's just what they do.
Most people who follow a team are casual fans, they don't really take the time to dig into the business matters, the behind the scenes stuff, nor do they care to. They react with their hearts and vent or celebrate accordingly. Then they wait for the next Sunday and do it again.

trading darnold would be a massive mistake and trades like that are the exact reason why we are an awful franchise

Boomer mentioned on his show that he should be traded to San Francisco who can get rid of Jimmy G at the end of the season.
