Not many have had that chance.. I think that’s the only way to entice a big name coach to coach this dumpster fire. First overall and final say on player personnel

That’s because it’s a system that doesn’t work, and it’s definitely not the only way to get the coach you want.

I question if #2 will stay that way. We’re 5 weeks in and ready to junk Gase and possibly Darnold. We’ve got a lllooonnnggg time and a lotta losing football left, only a matter of time before some of that focus shifts towards JD. And God-forbid if we lock down again and angry jets fans get more idle time behind a keyboard? Heaven help JD!

It works if you have an elite coach it doesn’t work if it’s a mediocre coach thrown into that role. I firmly believe to draw a big name coach he needs to be in charge over the GM. Just like how the Raiders got Gruden out of retirement. He hand picked Mayock but as we saw at the draft Gruden was running the show. Same With Bill, same with Vrabel, etc etc.

Unless you have a GM like Ozy Newsome who had an excellent eye for talent the coach needs to pick players to fit his system for a fluid transition from college to pro. They know what they are looking for because they have a better idea on what they have from the practice field and in game tape.

I'm certain that he does. He lives in some bizarro world. He thinks the Jets should swing for the fences in the first round every year and draft a boom or bust prospect. He is one of the least knowledgeable, most clueless posters I've ever seen on a Jets fan site.

You just never learn do you? A numbers guy for GM? ROFLMAO!!!! We had that with Tanny and we wound up with a bare cupboard with no premium talent, holes all over the roster, and no depth.

Ya we also made it to 2 conference championship games and beat Peyton, Brady and Rivers on the road. You make it seem that Tanny and Rex was a bad thing when actual fact is the were the best football the NY Jets have played since Joe Willy.

That was 2 good years which immediately deteriorated. Rex and Tannenbaum missed the playoffs the following 3 seasons. Everything they did was short sighted when they did work, and just awful when they didn’t.

Just think back on those 2 runs and how awesome it was. I remember jumping up and down in my living room when we slapped Indy and the Pats. The best football I’ve ever seen from the Jets.

Ya in the end it fell apart but most teams do after deep runs. Look at the Texans now or The Rams last year after a SB appearance or how about the Eagles after winning it all.

The Texans haven't made it past the Divisional round. Their ex HC was dumb enough to trade a top 5 WR for very little. The Rams regressed, but still went 9-7 in 2019 and are 3-1 so far this year. The Eagles have made the playoffs in both years after their Super Bowl win.

The Texans were terribly managed and the Rams are competing for a playoff spot this year. Not at all good examples.

The Eagles look bad but they were in the playoffs last year and are currently winning their division.

Your arguments don’t make sense, you could just as easily say yeah let’s keep doing heroin, it was awesome even though afterwards my life has fallen apart. A bit of an extreme example but honestly it applies. You’re saying the highs were awesome, forget the lows.

SF after loosing to the Ravens, Saints after winning had some lean years and so did Green Bay after winning, Carolina after the SB with Denver. Those teams had franchise QBs to boot.. my point is after success because of the salary cap and parity in the league teams can easily go through ups and downs frequently

The Jet years with Rex and Tanny were special and the best I’ve seen

    wow that’s pretty extreme

I’m saying don’t discredit our 2nd best accomplishment as a pro football franchise we’ve ever had... I’m also saying that this happens all the time in pro football with other franchises. So to say a numbers guy like Tanny and a Player personal coach Like Rex doesn’t work is BS. It does work and it’s the second best theory we’ve ever had. Accept it for the truth it is and bask in that exceptional time in being a Jet fan upsetting Indy, Pats and SD on the road when nobody gave us a chance.
