I can't say for sure what Darnold is at this point I am 100% certain he's a better pro QB than Sanchez & Geno were for the Jets and that he'll have a productive, longer career after he leaves the Jets unlike Sanchez & Geno. I wouldn't give up on Darnold so soon. Obviously if they get the #1 overall and this Trevor Lawrence I'm hearing so much about is available they have to take him even JD ain't that dumb (I hope). We've seen this season that Darnold has more than enough mobility if he has to move. That's not really his game but he can do it. I'm just not sold on all these running QBs having long careers. Josh Allen is a serious injury waiting to happen, with the Jets luck they'll draft Lawrence and he'll tear a rotator cuff or get concussions etc. when he runs. I think Darnold's style of play will alow him to have a long NFL career into his late 30s or early 40s when all is said & done he may end up having a longer career than Allen, Mahomes, Jackson etc.
Reminds me nothing of Sanchez. I can't even imagine Mark with this team's roster. He would have to be benched because it would be a kind of ugly the NFL has never seen. And I like Mark!
Not sure about that. Loggains is listed as the Offense/Quarterback coach. That should be on him. Maybe Gase should fire him, but someone has to step up and fix this issue.
Sam deep ball accuracy is a big problem, but even Rex was able to get something out of Mark Sanchez You mean like a Ryan Fitzpatrick kind of career?
If Gase wants to keep his job past Week 5, he needs to fire and replace the QB Coach and the OC ASAP.
Just watching Red Zone today and seeing some of these rookies around the league making an impact. No excuse for JD not to have added some skill position talent in this past draft. He doesn't get a pass on that one.
If Gase keeps his job past this season this team has a lot bigger problems. This season is a complete loss. Hopefully they oblige and go 0-16 and some real changes are made.
We don’t know what Darnold can really be...he’s had literally nothing to work with. but...the main thing is this coach is not the answer. clearly, he’s not improving Darnold first step is to get rid of Gase
If Vinyy T. Didn't blow out his achilles in 1999 it may have been different. That team was favored by many to at least get to the AFC championship a 2nd straight time. But it's just another sad event in a long stretch of 'woulda , shoulda's' for this franchise.
I think you are giving Darnold a way out. Joe Burrows is playing better than Darnold on the historically bad Bengals. Justin Herbert is playing better. Brett Rypien played better than Darnold. The bad play falls squarely on Darnold and Gase. It's either Darnold cant run the offense or Gase's offense is just that bad. I believe Darnold's accuracy is the issue, and he lacks confidence to run the plays Gase calls. Gase drops clues all the time. Remember him saying he didn't have a play for 4th and 7 against that kind of defense. That was a shot at Darnold. I think there was another time he said he called the screen to get Sam going. This is just my thinking... but I think Douglas and Gase know Sam has accuracy issues... and becaue of that Gase's job is safe.
Could very well be. We don't see all the tape like CS does so it's assumed that many mistakes on the field are mostly by Sam and his team mates. Bad execution can make any play look bad. From some of the tape I've seen, Sam has to be held accountable also. But my feeling is you have to have the right staff in place to fix these sorts of problems. Or at least get the player to think correctly. Imo, Sam's problem is state of mind. He doesn't look very sure of himself after the snap.
Gase's job is safe? That's scary if true. He was brought in to develop Sam, not to wait for Lawrence.
Worst case yes. I think Darnold will be better how much I can't say because I don't know. Obviously Darnold has much more God given physical ability (#3 overall pick) than Fitzpatrick (7th round pick).
There is no question that Sam is struggling this year, in fact he has digressed from last year. The question in my mind is why. Palmer his QB coach in the off season said he noticed a quantum improvement and his mechanics were great. What the hell happened in training camp? Is Gase on the same page with Sam? What has Gase or his side kick done to make Sam better? If we had a coach like Andy Reid and Sam played this way we would know Sam is not the answer. Not so with Gase, he has zero credibility and could very well be a big part of Sam’s problem. That’s why the most important and instant improvement on a team is to have the right coach.
