    Sam is good.
    Sam isn’t great.

if we get the number 1 pick, I’d trade if for the best package I can get, so I can surround my good QB with other good players, and continue to develop him with a coach who knows what he’s doing. Even if Lawrence is great ... and who knows? ... it’s useless without talent around him.

This is a point that I don't think is getting brought up enough and I share your thought that Sam isn't totally beyond redemption.

However, he just hasn't shown enough yet that I would feel comfortable with the FO paying him 25-30M. If you all thought paying Jamal was gonna hamstring our cap situation, imagine double that going towards 1 player. It'll be very difficult to build around Sam when he's commanding almost 1/6 of our total cap space.

That's why I'm of the mindset that if we finish the season with the first pick, we take Lawrence. Hopefully JD has seen what's happened to Sam and will do his best to make sure that doesn't happen to Lawrence. I feel like he would do everything he can to surround Lawrence with a capable offense in year 1. With all the money and draft capital we have this offseason, that shouldn't be too difficult. Not to say we'll be the Kansas City Chiefs next year but I truly think an average unit is not totally out of the question. And if JD doesn't do that...then maybe it's time we find someone else who shares that mindset

Especially Pitts, I feel like that guy is gonna be a top 5 TE almost immediately.

I know I may be in the minority because it seems like everyone wants a new toy in lawrence to see what transpires, but Sam is still the man. Last night he was exciting to watch. With what he had to work with.....and it's not just me that's saying this. There are many that think the potential is still there.

That being said If they have the #1 pick, I don't see a viable option for trading out simply because they would have to be offered multiple #1 picks in 2021 to consider this. Only 2 teams so far , Jacksonville & Miami, have multiple #1's, If I didn't overlook any. Jets would be just plain dumb and stupid to swap with Miami.

And trading down 10-15 positions is NOT an option. They would have to trade Darnold to a team in need. I still feel he can be had for a low #1 - maybe Tampa? I think the Bucs would do that in a heartbeat. Sam still has plenty of upside because of his age. And considering how Tannehill has looked post Gase , easy to guess what the potential can be.

I supported and made excuses for Sam ..now Gase aside when he holds on to that football like Geno, goes backward and takes a sack without throwing it away well ..not good

Lots of great Posts here and I think we all need to try to figure out this napalm bomb of a Franchise

Gase has to be fired first..then we will have an equal playing field with good bad and in between talent surrounding our QBs

But Vilma said it first: tank for the Clemson boy wonder and have all 3 Sam , Morgan duke it out, with a new coach, using what the roster provides right here and now

minor quibble if we're not picking 1 but still picking high i would not go WR. Either get some other premium position like DE or trade back because we still need a lot of talent

Stop it - crowder had just as good as a game as Jeudy did. He holds on to ball to long and can’t make reads after his first one

Good QBs make everyone around them better. You need that to win Super Bowls. Not the other way around

Ok - Gardner Minchew ? Russel Wilson doesn’t have “great talent” they get it done and elevate players

WR is a big need. If I can get Chase, I'd find it difficult to pass on him.

The best defensive player in the country is Micah Parsons (ILB) and Rousseau is probably the best edge rusher but it's a weak edge rusher class and he opted out.

I always respect your opinion because you're a grounded football guy so don't take this the wrong way. But if I were JD and there's a top 15 receiver there (there's likely 2 maybe 3) and I can't trade down? I'd stop fucking around and go get the best receiving playmaker available.

But if he's getting the best player, it's tough to look past Parsons.

Do we know if that's the number? That seems inflated and everything I've read says that it varies based on performance.

Regardless - we're going to have $90 million+ in cap space. You for sure pick the option up unless he plays just dreadfully the rest of the year.

@MaximusD163 - what's the word on the 5th year option number?

Here's what I found from BR.
    https://bleacherreport.com/articles...eave-host-of-former-top-nfl-talents-available
For top-10 picks, the fifth-year option is equal to the salary of the league's transition tender during the player's fourth season. The number is based on the 10 highest salaries at the player's respective position during the previous season. Beyond the initial 10 selections, the fifth-year option is the average of the third- to 25th-highest-paid players at the same position.

For example, Los Angeles Rams quarterback Jared Goff, whom the organization selected No. 1 overall, will make $22.78 million after the team picked up his fifth-year option, according to Spotrac.

I will say all things considered jeff smith looked like a legit WR. not a start but a guy who could be a good WR4/5 for us. If mims pans out and we get a real WR1 in the offseason between those 2 crowder and smith we aren't too bad off. I would like to draft at least 2 if not 3 WRs though and kick periman, hogan, morgan, and maybe even berrios to the curb. I wouldn't mind cager sticking around on the PS to see if we can develop him

I'd trade down for a haul (2nd rounder this year and a 1st or 2nd next year) and grab rousseau then use the next 5 picks a late 1st 2 early 2nds and 2 3rds one early one late) on a couple of WRs, and CB/O-line good WRs are much easier to find late 1st early 2nd then you can find a good pass rusher and it's a weak pass rush class

should be 70ish with a few cuts (anderson and griffin) and when you count the rookies. but we also will only have 32 players under contract (assuming we cut anderson and griffin) plus 10 picks so that's 42 meaning we have 11 spots open to fill with that 70 mil or roughly 6.3 mil per spot. still a good amount of money when you balance out the fact we can also have low paid UDFA at the bottom too.

I wouldn't be upset if we went edge rusher/receiver/OL in some variable combination in our first three picks. And it likely is the way it should go. I want to see what this Clark kid can do. Is he on full season IR? His tape looked good albeit at Charlotte.

And runningback and ILB should also be a priority. As bad as the cornerback situation is, I'd live to fight that battle another off-season with Bless + whatever else we can muster up with Hall/Wilson and the kids.

ILB doens't worry me as much. CJ will be back. we haven't seen onowasu and we can resign him. cashman will be back. we could resign avery. hewitt is a nice depthy guy. but we are missing 3 out of our 4 top ILBs right now who should all be back next year and ogletree just sucks

not sure whats up with clark but if he can be a solid RG that would be nice
