A couple of second round picks does not equal mortgaging your future (especially if you draft like the jets in the second round - a second rounder to the Jets is like a 6/7th rounder for other teams)

There are obvious question about the poor performance of Darnold and the offense here. To what extent is it lack of talent in Darnold or poor talent around him or poor coaching? Gase needs to be fired to see if Darnold improves under another coach. The Jets need to better evaluate Darnold this season so they can make well-educated decisions in the draft.

I agree with your analysis. Especially about Gase calling the plays. When he was at Denver , this is what took place:

Gase: "ok peyton let's do this play".
Peyton: "no, we are doing this other play".
Gase: "yes sir I am sorry sir we will do your play sir"

Bottom line - good QBs make play makers: they make it work with what they have.

gardner Minchew is not complaing. Russel Wilson was always surrounded by late round talent wrs ( until last year with metcalf)

    It’s non sense excuses

Very reasonable post. What the hell are you doing on this forum???:p

I agree with pretty much everything except I don't have any doubts that Gase needs to be fired ASAP, right now, tout sui, pronto! And I also think, unless Darnold shows more than he has - regardless of all the reasons he hasn't (which I agree most are not his fault), and you have a chance to draft Lawrence, you do so. Worst case is that you have them compete head to head. At least give Darnold a chance to raise his trade value...unless someone blows them away with a pre-draft trade of high picks in return.

But it is too early to make a judgment that he's a failure.

Oh please, just stop it! Both those teams are in a different league entirely from the Jets with talent and coaching.

Yeah, but then you have questions about his shoulder holding his value down.

Besides, Gase isn't going to risk having yet another QB struggle with his "genius" offense...with the "inexperienced" and "injured" Darnold he has built in reasons why his offense doesn't work.

The definition of insanity, is to continue doing the same thing over, and over again. Change the coach save the QB.

I think the conclusion that can be easily reached is the below

    • Barring a miraculous turnaround to 9-7 (lol), Gase and the entire staff gets canned
    • Joe Douglas chooses the entire staff
    • Pickup Sam's 5th year option
    • If Lawrence is there you take him
    • If we are not picking #1 overall you take the best receiver there (Waddle, Chase, etc.). You also think about Sewell if he's in striking range
    • You do your best to sign a new guard, big time receiver and figure out what the tightend plan is going to be
    • You look for another back in the second or third or even backend first if someone there is worth it (Najee Harris).

He also hits receivers in the hands and they drop balls..Herndon is playing with grease on his hands this year...

we don’t have a single receiver who would make the play Jeudy made for the TD last night....Sam is not doing great but he has literally NO support.

can’t compare to Kyler who is throwing to Hopkins and Fitzgerald ... night and day

If Pitts or Freiermuth is available with the Seahawks pick, I'd be tempted to take either. Both have top 5 TE in the NFL upside.

because he’s a better player. Only fans care where Sam was drafted now.

    Coming from HerndonFan?!

Both are good players but I imagine Pitts will be a top 10-15 pick. I also don't want a receiving tightend by themselves. This team hasn't had a tightend that can block (even though he couldn't catch) since Anthony Becht.

Tightend should be filled in round 3-4 or free agency. People forget how important a good blocking tightend can be to a running game (Gronk, Kittle) and how detrimental a bad one is. Jimmy Graham kills every team he's on because they have to take him off the field on first down running plays.

They would be improving their qb position. What we gave up and where he was drafted is irrelevant at this point

fully agree! I haven’t lost faith in Darnold and think he can be much better As the supporting cast improves

that being said, I wouldn’t pass on Lawrence if we have the top pick

those two views are not mutually exclusive

You cannot simply judge Sam on stats.
He has a shitty supporting cast and an even worse coach and offensive system.

Eye test says he has a long way to go, but also still has the talent.
I do not think Sam is going to be the guy for us, but I am not counting out Working for someone else.
