Yeah, good point. Clearly Gase has a lack of communication with everyone. One of his major issues. Hard to disagree with me when everything I expected happened. If you have the 2009 or 2010 Jets defense, I get it. Right now? Can't do it. It almost worked when Quinnen made that sack, but the penalty killed the team. The Jets are losers. In their mind, they are losers. You push that 4th down through and get the eventual Touchdown, that is ball game. It gives you momentum and confidence. That is how I look at it and I am sure many others do as well.
The previous three drives resulted in 11 plays for 22 yards, 2 picks and a ton of pressure for the Broncos. We actually get the stop if Q doesn't grab the facemask. And the defense still gives the Jets offense a chance to win the game with 3 minutes left.
I know. Just saying that was the Jets best chance to take control of the game and Gase chose not to. Played it safe. That rarely works in the NFL these days. You need to attack. Gase refuses. Result: (0-4).
Looking at the fantasy football page and this is what it says in Perine's report "Perine mixed in behind Frank Gore (13 carries for 30 yards) on early downs, while Kalen Ballage served in a pass-catching role. With Gore averaging just 3.2 yards per carry and Ballage committing a couple of critical gaffes, there's an opportunity for Perine to earn himself a larger workload while Le'Veon Bell heals up from a hamstring injury. Whether the rookie fourth-rounder is given a chance to seize that opportunity by a stubborn coaching staff is a different story." It comes to something when a fantasy football game is giving the coach digs.
SNY reporting, as many of us figured, that Gase will be retained for the foreseeable future. You have to understand: the Johnsons, much the same as the Wilpons, despise the fan base of their teams. They will never do ANYTHING that they think the fan base desires, no matter how sensible it may in fact be. Count on it. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Chris has gotten his ego involved in this, with all the crazy hyperbolic shit he said when he hired Gase and when he gave him a vote of confidence a few weeks ago. If Chris takes the unusual step of firing Gase in mid-season, he would have to eat a lot of crow, and Trust Fund kids are used to eating filet mignon and caviar, not crow. Douglas also has an interest in keeping Gase until the end of the year because the focus now is on how bad Gase is. Once Gase is gone, the focus may shift to how bad this roster is. I'm not necessarily blaming Douglas for the roster, certainly not after the abysmal drafts by Idzik and Maccagnan. My point is that the more heat there is on Gase, the less there is on Douglas.
That was a fluke, not a touchdown drive; Darnold used what's left of his instincts. So you write that one off and ask what did Gase do the five times the Jets had to settle for field goals? Not a damn thing. And what did he say about his performance as OC and coach? Not a damn thing. In another kind of battle in another place and time he would have been fragged by now.
Your analysis is based on even a marginally competent team in those circumstances...the Jets are not even marginally competent. This was perhaps theor best chance to win a game to this point in the season, and a win might actually have given them a boost - maybe not enough to allow them to go on a winning streak, but enough to begin playing better, and maybe be somewhat competitive. Instead, Gase sent a loud and clear message to Darnold and his team: I don't believe in you. He should've gone for it.
I get that you can make this mistake in a split-second. The Jets made 6 mistakes like this on Thursday night. That's just terrible coaching at work. We didn't get to see the Jets sideline much on the broadcast. Do you think that Gregg Williams pulled his guys together at any point and told them to stop beating themselves? Do you think he's going to make it a major point of emphasis in the film study groups? My guess is no and no. His defensive style is to be ultra-aggressive and physical and it's hard to have that style and also call your guys on the split-second hits that provoke most personal foul flags.
And still allowed an offense led by a 3rd string QB in his 1st start to score 38 points in a game where the offense had no turnovers.
This is what you get when you hire an "offensive genius", and even though you hire him as the Head Coach, you allow him to chuck all his other responsibilities so he can focus all his "genius" on the offense. While in theory Gase should have control over ALL aspects of the team, in practice he only has control over the offense (and based on the results, he has very little control over that!), and so the other "head coach", Williams gets carte blanche to do whatever he wants on defense, including coaching his players to play dirty, and rack up penalties that cost games. If this doesn't prove the Jets are the "short bus" franchise, I don't know what does.
Watching games yesterday it drives me nuts that Gase is still here. Motion everywhere. Ever thing of that. Using different players creatively. Very frustrating. I get injuries but injuries seems to be a thing with Gase's teams and everyone deals with injuries. I can't believe we have to watch him 12 more weeks. Hopefully less. Very disturbing.
I’ve said this many times but it happened again yesterday... you ever watch other teams play and then wonder how what Adam Gase does is even considered football?
A Jets free Sunday is always a double edged sword for me. On one hand, you get to watch some proper football and coaching, on the other hand it's a sobering reminder of just how bad this franchise has become. The way I look at, the Jets HAVE to be tanking. If we are to believe in Joe Douglas's reputation around the league, I find it hard to think that this roster and coaching set up has been constructed to be competitive this season. If JD believes this was a competitive roster and coaching team, we might as well all give up. I think they're openly tanking. That means there's no way they get rid of Gase this year because if you do shit can him, the pressure then goes on Douglas because he's effectively saying the coach should be doing better with the players he has provided him with. I think that's why we saw the flurry of 'Gase won't be fired even if he loses against Denver' reports in the media. Gase and the Jets will continue to be terrible for the remainder of this year. Then it will be over and if we do get that number one pick, i just hope Trevor Lawrence doesn't pull an Eli Manning on the Jets. Gase, is a horrible coach but he's a symptom of a larger problem. The people who hired him and have made bad decision after bad decision for many years and they are what's shackling this team. When the time comes to give Gase his ticket out of town, I'm just hoping it's Joe Douglas who chooses his replacement and not the Johnson idiots.
Interesting point, and I agree there is some truth to Douglas being shielded from some well deserved heat, as Gase is despised much more and is already a proven loser. There is at least some optimism for the unknown with Douglas. But with each and every passing week, my disdain for Douglas begins to grow. For one, he is still stubbornly standing by Gase when virtually everyone knows he should be fired. This has led to players literally opting out or quitting on the season before it even began. And now we got whatever cornerstone players remaining getting injured when they shouldn’t be out there. It’s bad for both the present and future. Two, he is absolutely ruining Darnold with this coach and lack of offensive talent. And he doesn’t seem to care. Why, because he didn’t draft him? Maybe getting another QB buys him even more time? I don’t like GMs putting their own ego and interests over the team. Even if that is just my perception, it’s hard to imagine he ever had much interest in building around Darnold. Three, there is no denying the talent Douglas put forth to start this season is actually worse than what Maccagnan went into 2019 with. We needed a step forward, especially with the QB we have, and not a further step back into rebuild considering the cupboards were already pretty bare. So imo, the longer Gase stays, the more heat Douglas is going to get at this point. Firing Gase would at least breathe some life or optimism into the future, as right now there is none, and Douglas bares a lot of responsibility for that.
Thats just the thing...you dont have to watch them. Do as i and many others are and tune the heck out. 33 years and I've finally come to the point of apathy and disdain and will not watch again until Gase is gone and a huge overhaul occurs.
I agree with all of this except the bold. If Gase is fired, why would the pressure go on Douglas? He didn't hire Gase. He may not have the ability to fire him or hire his replacement. If Gase is fired, it says that he didn't get the players that Mac and Douglas provided him with to perform. That has been the case. Some fans and some of the media would expect things to improve, but I don't think most would expect a radical turn around. Everyone knows that Idzik and Mac were awful GMs and that most of their draft picks sucked and are no longer with the team, and that the expensive FAs that Mac signed have done zip to help. I believe that with Gase gone, Sam will play better, and I think much, if not all of the team would play better, which would confirm that Gase was the problem, moreso than the personnel. Everyone knew, or should have known, that Douglas wasn't going to be able to turn this team around in one offseason. They knew that the team's cupboard was pretty bare, especially on offense. IMO there's more pressure on Douglas if Gase stays, because right now the only two draft picks that have contributed and look good have been Becton and Mann. We've gotten zip from Mims, Zuniga and Davis. McGovern and Van Roten haven't played well yet, nor has McDougald.
Good post... esp. the last paragraph is spot on. JD has his finger prints all over this roster and like I said in another thread, his staff and the CS meet and decided on the type of players they wanted... I am disgusted how they have handled SAM and I do not care that he didn't draft him. he didn't do him any favors either... the OL is as bad as it was last year and the WRs are a joke.... If he trades SAM, I hope SAM plays lights out just to say FU to the JJ bros and JD.
