Jets fans would have given up on Drew Brees - After 3 years (24 years old) he had 29 tds - 31 ints and a below 60% completion... Darnold (23 years old) has 39 tds - 32 ints and 60% completion... And he’s played for a team that has been totally devoid of offensive talent and Adam Gase as his head coach... Enuff said...
Of course anyone can have a bad game, but we also don't know what the play call was on those two throws you mention, what route should've been run. And yes, maybe he made bad throws, but you seem to be giving Gase a pass for what I believe is the biggest part of the problem. And I didn't even mention that Gase fails to give Sam ANY support or advice during the game...isn't that what a coach is supposed to do? And if you're going to say "That's Patten Oswalt's job", then I'm going to say, "Why the hell doesn't Gase make sure he does that then?" And again, put yourself in Darnold's shoes...you've played about 32 games as a pro, and most of them have been under shitty coaches with marginal supporting casts, do you not think there is a cumulative effect? And I would hardly say that "we moved the ball".
I want Sam to Succeed. You left out the fact that we may even get more picks if we trade the Lawrence pick. That would be the perfect storm. Sam plays good...we trade out & get more picks. That would really boost this team for years to come.
Kyler Murry Threw 3 interceptions & not a word was said. Players have bad games ala the 4 interceptions Stafford threw vs. us in 2018 opener. Sam definitely needs to be more consistant but he is just 23 & learning on the fly with a bad coach & a poor roster.
Yeah and I'm not sold on Kyler Murray either. He has a lot to prove and he's turning the ball over this year too. I think there is but I also think he's regressed and his eternal clock looks kind of shot. That's not good. We'll see what happens. I hope he has a good game tonight and throws four touchdowns and gets on a roll. I just don't think there's enough people saying hey Sam played like dogshit last week. That ones on him. And I want the coach gone. I'm with making that move. But everything positive or negative that happens in a football isn't always the coaches fault.
Of course it's not ALL the coaches fault, but: 1. He's the guy in charge and "The buck stops there". 2. It;s easier to get rid of one person than a whole team.
and even if he has time our WRs and playcalling is awful. did you see the breakdown of the opening play last week? awful call. sam rolls out against his body (which is whatever he can make the throws but still odd) 2 WRs to the side he rolls out. both running streaks. D has single high safety. the 3rd WR on the opposite side runs an out route (cager) safety rolls with the 2 streakers it's 3 on 2 with 2 WRs right next to each other going deep and the 3rd WR is in a spot impossible to throw to even if open. He gave sam 2 players to throw to right next to each other covered by 3 DBs. all sam could do was run OOB for a 2 yard gain. If the 3rd WR at least runs an in he can complete it over the middle with room for YAC. either that play call was awful or cager ran the wrong route which is possible but either way 0% for success on that play for sam.
Yeah, when I watch Gase's playcalling, I think back to the days when we were kids and would draw up plays in the dirt: "OK Joey, you run deep; Tommy, you run with Joey, but then you split off inside (No mention of how far downfield that's supposed to happen); Billy, You run deep on the opposite side; I'll roll out and hit one of you". It's like he's playing Madden or just dreaming up shit and trying it out to see if it works: "Hey! If I'm confused, then that means THEY'LL be confused". Genius my ass!
Tonight Sam Darnold needs to step up..plain and simple . Make some chicken salad out this chicken shit please: how about a string of completions , zero interception and a QB rating over 30?? His efforts, despite Gase wont go unnoticed
i think his idea is if i call plays nobody else in the world would, the defense won't expect it. he doesn't realize nobody calls them because they are awful
Starting your career poorly and becoming elite is an extreme exception to the rule. There are 5000 times as many examples of guys starting poorly and being out of the league shortly after.
