https://nypost.com/2020/10/01/mike-francesa-claims-ex-jets-gm-mike-maccagnan-called-him-for-advice/ Thought you guys would find this one interesting! Ha I can believe it! Mac was completely lost as a GM--was totally swimming.
Note to the Johnsons: Don't hire consultants or take a call from a retired QB who never played for the Jets. They will recommend their buddies for whatever job you have an opening for.
Maccmoron probably the worst GM in modern NFL history with the capital he had available. It's insane how bad he was.
Ever look up the stats on his draft picks and how few were even still in the league a few years after being drafted? There's a legitimate argument that Mac was literally the worst drafting GM of all time.
It's fascinating. Then you consider he had TWO free agency splurges and we're still the worst team in the league, beyond comprehension.
Mac was horrid....I know he would claim Leo was a pro bowler and Adams was an all pro, but Adams was SUCH the wrong pick...Watson had just beaten Alabama in the title game and came from a powerhouse program. And we needed a QB desperately. That was the pick I wanted, as I have to admit I wasn’t sure about Mahomes coming from that air raid system where everybody throws for 5000 yards. But Watson I was all in on, and I couldn’t believe he passed on a QB for a damn safety. Just horrible decision making. his free agent splurges were just as bad. His disregard for OL was criminal, even more so because our team already lived that fight...When Tanny came in, he revamped the OL which was terrible when he got here, and he did it in one year by drafting Brick and Mangold and signing Woody and Faneca...and that led to playoff teams. Shit, he didn’t have to look very far to see a proven blueprint. Yet he ignored OL every fucking year. I HATE Mac and will not be surprised if he never works in football again...at least for sure he won’t ever get a GM job again. but as bad as he was, with no plan and no vision on how to build a team, I still think Idzik was worse. That motherfucker didn’t draft shit. Enunwa was it...a sixth round pick. This moron had what, 20 picks in two years, and the only good players he drafted were Sheldon and Quincy. That is HORRID. Even a monkey throwing darts at a draft board could do better. put those two imbeciles back to back and voila, we get the worst roster in the league by far, devoid of talent at literally every single position
19 picks, and winters and dozier are the only othe nfl players. As you mentioned Richardson and Enunwa already... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Nothing like Ryan Clady, Willie Colon and Kelechi Osemele on the o-line (although Osemele is playing decent for KC now)
I always hear this take but I disagree. Maccagnan acquired the same amount of talent Idzik did with three additional offseasons + two free agency splurges. Also, Christian Hackenberg prevented him from drafting Mahomes or Watson. This is no longer up for discussion.
Ugh...the Korn Ferry debacle...what the fuck does that recruiting firm know about football? Clearly less than nothing. and while on paper the choice of having former pro GMs of super bowl winning teams help the Next hiring process may sound good on the surface, the execution was botched...who the FUCK thought it was a good idea to put Charley fucking toupee wearing mofo Casserly on the committee? He hasn’t done shit since the fucking 1980s! Why was he EVER in the group? Just such an embarrassing indictment of the Johnson’s ineptitude all the way around
i agree completely, macagnan was completely incompetent and idzik was worse. i can remember guys clamoring about how macc was going to be great like some guys always do with anyone new, and idzik was the worst and then he drafted 2 safeties round 1 and 2. they both played to potential but man the things we could have gotten. idzik was defintely far worse of a gm. absolutely horrible. when was the last solid draft the jets have had? 2009 was good but only 3 guys. 2007 2 solid players really back to 2006 and even in that draft round 2 and 3 were dogshit. id like to see a 4th year ranking of each draft for the past 15 years and see where we are. i bet were are in the bottom 5 of drafts.
Francessa is so full of himself, that he feels everyone wants/needs his input. Classic narcissist. This may be Francessa's impression, but i don't there is any actual semblance of truth to it. Think about it....if Macagnan wanted head coaching advice, do you think Francessa is the first place he'd go? lmao
My company has used Korn Ferry for a looooong time and to say that we do well would be the understatement of all understatements, but we’re not in the business of football. My initial thought was “if it works like it has for us...”. It didn’t.
That's not true at all. Idzik whiffed on literally every draft pick but Winters and Enunwa, and he had like 20 picks. His FA was even worse, he wasn't good at trades, or finding UDFA or waiver wire contributors. His answer at QB was Geno Smith.
Spot on as usual! When people don't know what they're doing they are easily swayed by opinions. The Johnson's best option going forward is telling Joe Douglas: "Listen you've been part of multiple Superbowl and playoff teams, were giving you a blank check to hire the best coaching staff, training staff and scouts to change this thing around. You have full control on this for the duration of your 6 year deal. Use your judgement and connections and let's see how this team looks after that window." Our front office is actually very solid and respected. Going into next year, we will have top 3-5 in cap space, 2 years worth of multiple picks, a VERY high 1st rounder next year and a QB who you can try to develop or trade for more picks. This isn't a bad situation if you can sell it the right way and not be stupid.
