Banners and billboards are straight up trash and I think it deters legitimate candidates to an extent. It's just stupid and makes the fan base look like suicide bombers during a bad season.
IN MHO Johnson Should hire me I will guarantee him a SB win in 5 years Before flaming I am surely better then Kotex, Coslet, Bowles, Gase just to name a few
You don't see many. The other one I know off the top of my head is Marv Levy. Harbaugh and him both great coaches. Might be something to look at. To me one of the big reasons special team coaches translate well. 1. They work with offense and defensive players. 2. Easy to coach special teams and still coach. For 12 games I think it'd be worth it but I don't get paid to make those decisions.
I just don't think you can promote Boyer over Williams without there being a lot of animosity but I do like the idea of a special teams coach. It's why I liked the Joe Judge hire for the Giants. They're usually good multitaskers as well since they're really coaching 5-6 units within special teams.
Makes sense but they all know they are on thin ice. To either save their job here or elsewhere they'll be good soldiers. Though a good ol Buddy Ryan Kevin Gilbride type fight on the sideline would be the most fin we've had this year.
Definitely could be wrong. Always knew him as an offensive guy. Here is a quick search of his coaching resume. Don't see special teams but definitely could have. Syracuse (1969) Graduate assistant RIT (1970–1973) Head coach Syracuse (1974–1975) Quarterbacks coach Syracuse (1976–1980) Offensive coordinator Boston College (1981–1983) Quarterbacks coach Philadelphia Eagles (1984–1985) Wide receivers coach Green Bay Packers (1986–1987) Wide receivers coach New York Giants (1988–1990) Wide receivers coach Boston College (1991–1993) Head coach Jacksonville Jaguars (1995–2002) Head coach New York Giants (2004–2015) Head coach
If Gase goes, it's safe to say they're going to have to promote from within. It's a pickle of a decision because Williams has not looked competent so far this season. I would leave Williams in his spot so that he can iron out the problems and promote someone from the offensive side of the ball. A wild guess would be Jim Cooter because of experience and having been part of 2 SB teams. Having an offensive guy coaching would be advantageous for Darnold to communicate better for play calling.
It absolutely cannot be Cooter. You have it backwards. As HC he would have to watch the game and make decisions, and wouldn't be available to work with Sam. If there's any hope for saving Sam, Cooter would need to work with him on the sidelines during the game. He could still call the plays. The only logical choice is Williams since he has HC experience.
I don't think you can hire a HC midseason. no team would allow a coordinator to go mid season. realistically all we can do is fire gase and make GW interim HC. not sure who would call the plays. any HC we are looking at would likely be for next year. I think that's why gase doesn't use an OC. it's job security
i disagree 100% first... I think those were signs of how ridiculously incompetent this team and our owners are. Idzik NEVER should have been hired. The Johnsons should NEVER have used Koran Ferry to recruit talent...what the fuck do they know about football? I think the fans are SO fed up with the absolute garbage this team hires for GMs and HCs and that was a great outlet. it was embarrassing for the Johnsons and honestly that’s what was needed. I would like to think that even those moronic spoiled know nothing rich kids who never built shit by the way...they were just born into it...I would like to think that maybe even they would have noticed it sooner or later and fired Idzik, but I do think that kind of public ridicule hastened the process. I loved it...I’ve never in 40 years of watching the NFL seen anything like that. second, I don’t think that would deter a real good HC...those guys have confidence and ego....they would go in thinking they are THE MAN. now, what I DO think would deter a great candidate is the Ownership. They can see just as well as we can that they meddle even though they don’t know shit. Jerry Jones meddles, he’s the GM, he try’s to tell his coaches who to play, etc,.but at least he knows football. The Johnsons are full on idiots who don’t know shit, as evidenced by the sheer number of awful hires at both the GM and HC spots. THat I DO believe would deter a great candidate, especially if there are other better teams to go to. Shit, I wouldn’t want to hitch my career to the whim of those imbeciles if I had other options either. And yeah, some coaches do turn the jobs down...Rhule did it to us when stupid motherfucking Mac told him that he couldn’t pick his own coordinators. Rhule, being a hot candidate and clearly a smarter guy than Mac, told him to go fuck himself. I have no idea where someone like Mac would get off thinking he knows better than the HC about hiring assistant coaches. Crazy. so yeah, this is all on ownership...we will NEVER be a consistently great team like the Steelers, Ravens, Pats, Seahawks, until they wise up, find a great football guy to lead the team, and just shut up and get the fuck out of the way. I hope JD is that guy, but too early to tell...the only thing I’ll say about it now is that at least he’s the first GM hire in decades where the rest of the football and media community don’t go “they hired WHO????” At least he comes with a pedigree and a background that provides some hope Hey, that’s a start!
Thanks for sharing. I remember when the infamous Desean jackson punt return happened everyone stated it was ironic since that was Coughlin’s original background.Im wondering if his GA position at Syracuse was helping w Special teams? Otherwise,i stand corrected
Jim Bob Cooter was an OC with the Detroit Lions and did a pretty good job. He should serve as the OC and QB coach and try to get Sam straightened out.
Well said. I think the idea that a billboard or banner would discourage a HC from becoming the Jets new HC is absurd. Potential HCs have legitimate reasons for not wanting to coach the Jets (the owners, little talent, Sam is probably ruined, the NY media, etc.) but a billboard or banner are not among them. Any HC that wouldn't take the Jets' job out of fear of the fanbase or because of a banner or billboard isn't worth hiring.
The Brown turned their season around and their offense when they promoted G. Williams to interim HC. It would be a chance for williams to audtion for the job as HC and give Sam the team the oppurtunity to reboot. There is no value in keeping Gase around after Thursday. We need to see what we have in Sam and the 10 days off is the perfect time to change directions and start fresh.
I get all your points. I still don't like them though. Billboards and banners remind me of what a white trash fan base would do. Not saying our fans are white trash at all - it's just what it reminds me of. Like something the real dirtbags of Boston would do if the Patriots were like the early 90s Patriots.
