and I hear what you're saying, and there's some truth to it, but I disagree. This team has been obsessed with defense for decades. DCs who become HCs are going to focus on the defense primarily. They're going to want prime draft picks going to the D, and the best FA signings to the D. Just look at how many of our #1 draft picks have gone to the D, especially to the DL.In general they are also more conservative. They are more risk averse on offense and want to win with defense. They settle for FGs instead of going for TDs. We saw it under Rex, Mangini, Bowles, Herm, etc. ad nauseum. We need a HC that will focus on the offense primarily, to bring it into today's NFL. Our defense has been pretty good at times during this span, but aside from Bowles' 1st year with Fitz, Decker and Marshall, our offense has been abysmal and an embarrassment. We need a creative offensive mind that will build or adapt a system around the players we have, not some idealized system that requires perfect players and who tries to force square pegs into round holes. Of course, whomever the HC is has to pay attention to all three units on the team, and insist that they execute and be the best they can be. I think we need a younger HC who will be more aggressive on both offense and defense. Who will attack rather than read and react. The bolded above I can definitely get on board with. I still want to hire someone with an offensive background, but I want someone who will focus on the whole team and will hire an aggressive DC and excellent STs coach. Maybe they will retain Boyer.
Weird really as it happens all the time in football (soccer) managers/coaches get sacked all the time and others leave the teams they are at to go to a new team very frequently.
Is this really your take on the situation with Gase and us the fans or is it just an amusing skit? Humour on here is hard to detect sometimes.
Well, it looks like Gase will get the whole year. So Boyer will have to try his hand at coaching somewhere else. I think the only former special teams coach that is a head coach is John Harbaugh and Douglas has some history with him. You just don't see too many of them become head coaches.
Well, there was a brief period when Parcells was coaching that the Jets actually look like they were building something. Then the trust fund babies bought the team and Bellichek embarrassed them by resigning Day 1. Since then its been all downhill. So your math was incorrect.
I'm not a fan of his. Andy Reid calls the plays so how much of an influence is Eric B imparting on the KC offense.
It would certainly look better if the Jets waited until the bye week. There's still the problem of you gave Gase no talent and now you are holding him accountable - for having no talent. The Jets probably have the worst rep in the NFL right now for how they handle these types of decisions. They fired Maccagnan late, which means that Joe Douglas is on year 1.5 not year 2. They botched the Gase hiring by making it abundantly clear that Peyton Manning swayed managements decision and then somehow having that disastrous first press opportunity. They really shouldn't make things worse by botching the Gase firing if it is to come. They need to think this one out and do it in a way that is not just a fit of pique influenced heavily by a notoriously impatient fan base. Not that the fans shouldn't be impatient at this point. I've gone 50 years now waiting for a Super Bowl.
Both....I have to laugh to keep my mind straight. 1) "Our GMs have left the Jets with ZERO talent...we have the WORSE roster in the NFL". and 2) "Gase should be FIRED for failing to build a winning record and getting us to the playoffs!!!!"
My two cents on coaching. What we need above all is a HC that knows how to build a successful team understanding what it takes in today’s NFL to be successful. A coach that fully recognizes that this is an offensive minded game, and working hand in glove with the GM to provide a balanced approach to building the pieces. Above all he must have the leadership qualities to be creditable and respected by the players, creating opportunities and putting players in the best position to excel. A coach that knows how to select an OC and DC that can implement the vision, and has the massive set of balls to take on a team that has been completely void of adequate talent, personnel development and guidance, a team of perennial under achievers void of leadership and a winning culture. I couldn’t give a shit what his background is, defense or offense, or special teams......I have seen plenty of failures from all three, mostly because they were good on one side of the ball but shitty as head coaches. We need a HC that knows how to win and outsmart the competition. And there are very very few of those around unless we take a chance on an up and coming assistant coach or college coach. The biggest personnel move of all time by the GM is to hit on the selection of the right HC, and lure him to a team with such a shitty reputation and history. If JD nails that, he is a Jet for life, good drafts or bad.
Always wanted jim Harbaugh but we have The Great Joe Douglas for 6 years. No proven big time coach is going to come here and be under Douglas. - Perriman - Trading back in the 2nd round to get what felt like the left over WR that nobody wanted - Van Rotten - No weapons to help out Sam - Desir for 4 mil. - trading Jamal AFTER the draft fuuuuuuuuuuuuck you JOE D - this roster is your fault
I agree. JD is a failure. Everyone talks about him being a former o lineman and nobody understands he was a trash of an OLineman failure himself.
This is JD's George Young moment. Young was tasked with turning around a long time losing Giants franchise in the late 70's. He went on to hire HOF coach Parcells and draft legendary LT, Simms and Banks among others turning the Giants into one of the premier franchises in the league. Will JD get the right guy? This is his big moment.
