Can you hire a coordinator mid season? I assume these coaches they are reaching out to are out of work HCs right now.

I would rather Williams or Boyer (preferablly) get a shot so we can see if they are head coach worthy or we go out and get a much better HC at the end of the year.

It has to be for interest after the season. There's 0 precedent for hiring an employee of another team to be your head coach midseason. Unless he means unemployed coaches. But it's also Cowherd so this entire thing is already fake.

Trust me.... If there's a team that would be dumb enough to try it.... It's us

Given the validity of this report is already in question because it's Cowherd, I would have to believe it's the Jets doing preliminary homework on coaches that are currently unemployed.

I think the funniest thing in this report is that the Jets are contacting agents. My question is what for? No one can be hired from another staff. It's September. If it was late November December to start lining up interviews great. In September. Yeah John Smith is interested lets interview him January 5th. Did John Smith's team make the playoffs? Did John Smith coach well the last three months? That part of the report is funny to me. We'll see Friday.

I keep hearing it'll be Williams. Which is fine but I'd like to see Boyer think he deserves it. By becoming the HC too he can still call special teams plays. Won't interfere. If not him how about Shawn Jefferson or Hines Ward. I'm just thinking someone other than Williams. See if we got a diamond in the rough coach. Probably not but worth seeing to change things up.

On a final note on this. Loggains needs to go too. What does he bring? Ugh the life of being a Jets fan.

What's the precedent for hiring out-of-work coaches to be your HC mid-season?

Mike Smith, Marvin Lewis, John Fox?
I wouldn't be interested beyond this year, but I think they're better than what we have on staff as far as interim coach.

Yikes. Just make Williams the coach, elevate Jim Bob Cooter to OC and let the rest of the year play out. Worry about a longterm solution after the season. At this point the only goal is to salvage what's left of Darnold's talent.

I am probably gonna killed for this but we screwed up by not picking Kliff. I would look at Mike Leach, I mean why not? The guy can get the absolute most from his offense. I would look at bringing back Williams or Rex for the defense.

Either way. The advantage of being the worst of the worst is that there's nowhere to go but up.

I only suggest bringing in one of those doorstops because there clearly needs to be a culture and discipline change. If any of the coaches on staff had that in them, I think we'd be seeing at least one unit executing.

Sounded strongly convincing on the source and story that it is decided with Thursday being his last game! And can’t disagree with cowherd’s opinion about jets.

It doesn't take a genius to know Gase sucks. Unfortunately our ownership sucks more than Gase..

I find it hard to believe the Jets will be hiring a coach during the season.

They probably want to get the jump on the rest of the firing waves...especially with travel being scuffed up with COVID

This roster is so bereft of talent the only acceptable goal is to finish with the worst record in the league. And with Captain Gase at the helm, that is all but guaranteed - make him go down with the ship. No reason to risk canning his ass and then some how, some way, they eek out a couple meaningless wins.

The short term pain of him coaching this team, is the price to be paid to ensure the #1 overall pick...

He does put us in the best position to succeed in grabbing the #1 pick, but the team is so devoid of talent that I’m honestly not sure it matters who the HC is at this point.

I think they should promote someone internally and hire and evaluate a QB coach for the rest of the season. We’ll actually be in a good position to land the coach we want after the season is over.

Williams acting for the rest of this year and Cooter as OC makes nothing but good sense for my money. Give Sam a break.

this was my first thought then I thought if JD had a brain he would have called the other teams first, unless they are looking at college coaches

“I am told with Adam Gase that Jets lose Thursday, he’s done. He got a vote of confidence, now they play Denver, they will lose. ... Gase has a problem. He’s not only losing games, but he’s lost the locker room. ... Too many Jets are always hurt. There’s something here. Do players want to play? I’m told the Jets have already reached out to a top coach agent and started asking questions. They’re going to look to college, they’re going to look to the pros. But the Jets have started the process. Of course, the Jets will deny this, but the Jets are now calling big-time agents. I’m not going to give you the name of the agent because that will give up my source. But they are calling big-time agents, Christopher Johnson, and they’re now compiling lists.”

Cowherd ... the same jackass who said that Gase was a "great coach" and a "really good hire" ... and called Jets fans "clueless" and "dopes" ... "they don't know anything".

Who's the dope now, you pompous schmuck??
