We had good team and had some good memories in that regime! We were really fun to watch, never a dull moment! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I'm not a big proponent of Wink Martindale as the next Jet's HC. He's 57 and has never been an NFL head coach before. I'm not a proponent of a smaller program HC like David Shaw coming here. I think he'd be in over his head big time once the realities of the NFL and the tristate media market revealed themselves to him. Daboll is a different question and I have no idea if he would be a good answer for the Jets however if he is in demand we aren't ever going to need to worry about that anyway. The kind of guy who might be able to work a miracle here would be a major college coach like Dabo Swinney or Jim Harbaugh. A coach that is highly successful, that has maybe hit the achievement levels they set for themselves in the NCAA game and is looking to enter or re-enter the NFL market. A current NFL HC like Sean Payton or Bill O'Brien might pop free with suitable inducements. Not a fired ex-coach, a successful current coach with a proven track record of working with QB's and developing offenses. There are a lot of possibilities out there that will not even be approachable if the Jets handle the current situation poorly.
You can't showcase the talent any lower than rockbottom and the Jets have already hit that level 3 games in.
I know you've been a Jets fan long enough to know that there is no floor to the bottom this team is capable of. If Gase stays you will see a new bottom reached every game.
Of course Harbaugh is the correct answer. I don't believe in Swinney as an NFL head coach. I don't think his bible hugging southern twang thing is fit for the NFL and I don't think he has any interest in it. It's telling that his name never comes up at the end of NFL seasons. I just don't think there's anything you can do to hurt this situation. It's a dumpster fire. I'd rather see if a coach like Williams, who is willing to bang his head into a locker to get his guys to play, is able to get some more out of the talent.
Not firing gase now would be huge mistake! Not sure why you want him to keep it embarrassing the franchise! Who cares who comes in it will only be trial run anyways, would have to do full search at end of season. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Actually I think it is likely the other way around. I think players will return from injury and the Jets will hit a softer part of the schedule and we're likely to look better, albeit not that good, over the course of the season. Right now with what we've seen so far I expect the Jets to finish 5-11 or something like that. Last year at this point in the season I thought we were going 3-13 and we wound up 7-9.
You have to keep him on the short week. We have 10 days off after we lose to the Broncos at which point the transition can be somewhat made.
You might be right about Swinney, however remember that there are a lot of NFL players who believe in that bible-hugging southern twang thing. It's a different culture in the locker room.
I get that, we have to watch another blowout on national tv Thursday night. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Perhaps in a "normal" season, or in a HCs first year with the team, but it's obvious that this team has given up on Gase. Even the so-called "winnable" games ahead will likely be losses. This is a Chernobyl-level situation.

If Hess had fired Kotite earlier in 96 season would Parcells not have come? Cards fired their HC after only a Yr before bringing in Kingsbury. You never wanna be in a position to fire a coach 3 weeks into a season but if hes doing lasting damage & its not working it is justified. This gives them a whole season to formulate a strategy to identify & acquire a coach to turn this shitstorm around. There will be draft ammunition & cap space in order to entice the right candidate.
That's fair. I just don't buy he wants to make any sort of move like that which is why there is never any discussion about him in coaching vacancies. I also think he's a masterful recruiter and inspirational leader than he is as a talent evaluator and X's and O's guy anyway. I like Shaw and Mullen. I bring up Martindale because of the potential Douglas connection. With how bad this situation is talent wise and owner wise, it's a blank check situation anyway.
Daboll has gotten the most out Allen and Roman the same with Jackson. There's an argument to be made that those 2 are better choices than the OC of a team where the HC calls the plays for an offensive juggernaut.
Hearing van rotten and Sam defend gase, makes me re taste my food... it wasn’t the game plan? His job shouldn’t be in danger? Really guys! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Here are important things to remember about Adam Gase: 1. He is originally from the Nick Saban coaching tree having worked for him at Michigan State and following him to LSU. Nick Saban knows a *lot* of people and is one of the most influential personalities in both the college and NFL ranks. 2. Gase started in the NFL working for Steve Mariucci and followed up with Mike Martz. He followed Martz when the 49ers hired Martz as OC. 3. His first coordinator job was with the Broncos under John Fox and he followed Fox to Chicago as OC for a season. 4. Peyton Manning felt strongly enough about Gase's firing in Miami that he approached the Jets on Gase's behalf. The point here is that people maintain their relationships with Gase at some personal cost. He is well-liked and respected among an influential group of people at the college and NFL levels. You have to think really hard about whether you want to make him the sacrificial lamb slaughtered at the altar of this roster right now. Some events have really strong repercussions that can be felt for quite a long time afterwards. I wouldn't fire Gase right now unless I had a significantly better option available. It's not like the new HC is going to make things much better if at all and the look of hiring somebody on a talent bereft team, then firing the GM responsible for the talent level, then firing the coach is just not good - from any point of view. It looks like scapegoating and nobody likes that kind of action.
Just like last year when Jamal Adams was whinging at 0-4 and 1-6? I wouldn't count on anything at this point. I was among the people calling for Gase's scalp at 1-6 and then the Jets did this funny thing and went 6-2 down the stretch, injuries be damned, lack of talent, so what?
No, it isn't. Mangini probably made all the good picks that Tannenbaum made. When Rex took over and it was all on Tannenbaum we saw who he really was.
