Arthur Smith, the Titans OC, is a better option IMO.

Bad luck? This is a dude who has no business coaching a high school team who only got into the NFL because he went to the school Saban was at before Saban became Saban. And then went to Denver right before they signed Peyton and got to be OC because Peyton didn't need a real OC. And then had the luckiest record ever in one score games in Miami which is how he got this job instead of going the way of Gus Bradley. Gase is the luckiest douchebag in the NFL.

As long as there are only 32 of these jobs in the world there will never be a shortage of candidates ready, willing and able to take the job. Why would any of them be dissuaded by an interim coach finishing out this year? The problem here has always been in finding the right one. With Douglas at the helm the Jets should be in a better position to pick the right one than they have been since Parcells.

Until you can define exactly what is going on it is strictly better to consider the results to be random in nature. Gase's teams have achieved at approximately their talent level since he took over as a HC. These achievements including the injuries and surprises that occurred on his watch.

The jets team that has us all upset right now is clearly playing at it's talent level, or do you see a 75 catch receiver or two out there that the rest of us are missing? :)

The Cowboys have maybe the 2nd or 3rd best talent base in the NFL. If McCarthy had that talent base in NY and the Jets were just competitive we'd all be howling for his scalp. :)

It would be odd to fire Gase, but keep his buddy.

That's a possibility. But it does not deny that he is still the best person to make such a decision here since Parcells.

Don't insult Tannenbaum like that. For whatever it's worth he was the GM under the best Jets teams of our lives. Sure it damaged the franchise for 5 years. But it was still fun as hell. And we've had 5+ years to fix it since then and failed.

Agree to disagree, then. I see a pattern of an unusually high number of injuries on Gase-coached teams. This is purely anecdotal, and if someone shows me stats proving otherwise, then I'll be happy to accept it. But if there is such a pattern-- injuries do have a random component but they also are attributable to fitness, training styles, schedules, and regimens, etc. Last year everyone said the incredible amount of injuries, disease, etc. was singular. But here we are again. And there they were in Miami. So I don't know.

If the Jets go this route then they are starting over in 2021, which might be the logical thing to do at this point.

Fire Gase, appoint Williams interim and then go on a search for a new HC next year with Williams leaving because he is not seriously being considered.

The new HC comes in with a mandate to build and then win in 2022. Joe Douglas very likely makes the pick because even the current ownership wouldn't have the chutzpah to undermine the guy they just gave a 6 year guaranteed contract too.

Think about this....what else is there to lose if he is fired tomorrow? Make Jim Bob the OC, fire Gase and Loggains and put Williams or Boyer in charge.

I'm not insulting Tannenbaum, I'm defending him. Saying Douglas is the best GM since Parcells is is insulting Tannenbaum.

Tannenbaum was not a good GM by any definition of the term.

What he was good at was putting all his eggs in one basket and then praying that the handle wouldn't break.

    The handle broke.

Not satisfied with his results with the Jets he went to Miami and repeated the exact same process, except as Executive VP of Football Operations, and of course again the handle broke - which is why Mike Tannenbaum is not GM/Exec VPing for anybody and hasn't been for several seasons now.

If Gase is not fired by tomorrow C.O.B., then it's just more evidence that the Johnsons are ignorant fools that know nothing about football (and probably not much about anything else for that matter). What could they possibly witness Thursday that would change the mountain evidence that proves Gase in incompetent? But what scares me is that there IS something that they will see that will "prove" that he really is an "offensive genius".

Seriously Johnsons, fire him right now and let's start moving forward for a fucking change!
