Plays like this and Darnold's youth remind me why he was considered to have Favre-like upside coming out of USC. Let's remember that Favre didn't set the NFL on fire during his first few years. Here are some stats: Favre's first two years playing (with good teams at ages 23 and 24) totaled 37 TD's and 37 Interceptions and quarterback ratings of 85.3 and 72.2. Darnold's first two years playing (with lousy teams at ages 21 and 22) totaled 36 TD's and 28 Interceptions and quarterback ratings of 77.6 and 84.3.
My opinion is that we can better build a team with the draft picks + those we have from the Adams trade. I agree Trevor is the man--its a tough choice.
It's time to take the chains off of Sam and let him sling it. He should be controlling the tempo, the audibles, and the flow of the offense - not Adam Gase. It's year 3, TURN SAM LOOSE!
In 1992 and 1993, the median NFL passer rating was around 75, whereas in 2018 and 2019, it was around 95. It's much easier these days to rack up good passing numbers.
But there are quite a few indications that he isn't being allowed to do this by Gase. That's what really worries me. Wrapping him in cotton wool and trying to make him a robot might work for some, but I think it runs opposite to what Sam is good at. Let him loose and let him make mistakes. He will never progress otherwise.
Drops are a part of the game though. Not that I disagree with the sentiment. I don't think Sam was the problem on Sunday, or at least not a big problem.
Darnold was 5 of 5 for 73 yards on the last drive of the game LOL. Garbage time my friends. So he throws for.about 120 yards prior to this.
Wasn't sure where to post this considering it's talking about draft compensation for Sam, but it would get way more conversation here. If it needs to be moved any mod can move it to draft forum.
No doubt in my mind. EDIT - Indy could also make a move for him since Rivers is on a 1 year deal IIRC
I was thinking the raiders may be interested. I could see the raiders trading us Carr and a pick for Sam and then Carr becomes backup/1st year for Trevor
I am mentally prepared for Sam's exit to flourish in PITT. They have a competent coach in place + weapons already there.
After what I just heard that Sam said about Gase (that he's a great coach and there is no problem with his plays or play calling that he, Sam, and the other players are at fault for not executing), then I think I hope that Douglas will trade Sam to another team. If Indy and the Steelers (and maybe another team or two) get into a bidding war for him, we could wind up with several picks, or at least a 2nd round pick, maybe even a 1st or more. Hopefully, he was just trying to be professional and not trash his HC publicly. If he was being sincere, however, then I have to think that Sam doesn't have what it takes mentally to be our FQB.
Doesn’t matter he still sucks, and you know who I am talking about. Lol Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Steve Young on TMKS said that it is all the Jets fault and not Sams and that he would love to coach the kid
