Since he has been here Gase has NEVER taken the blame for any of his players. It is always the other persons fault or the players fault so I highly doubt that.
He has to get this thing turned around and fast if he wants to keep his job. I wanted him to get the job so far I've been bitterly disappointed. I see his coaching pedigree but it's not translating to wins or even a competent product right now. I'm tired of the excuses, I'm tired of feeling depressed about losing Robby & Adams. Can't use excuses after a beatdown against the 49ers backups. That's what it's about finding a way to get the job done. We need a W these next four games are beatable opponents and no I'm not crazy expecting the Jets to win all four games. Find a way to win two with close, entertaining losses in the other two games. Get this season somewhat stabilized before they step up in class against KC & NE. Can't start 0-7 again (this year it'll be worse if it gets to that point) and survive with his job. I hope he can do it. I'm sick of the loser fire this guy, then that guy, that guy every other year cycle.
Yeah that's a good point I actually didn't think of that. What a nightmare it is to defend when you only play it once or twice a year. Especially when teams start pulling guards and tackles opposite play side.
Read somewhere that the McCarthy/Arron Rogers feuds that resulted in McCarthy getting fired were over Rogers demanding more options to change the play at the LOS. And McCarthy getting really pissed at him if he changed the play and failed to get it done. Play calling is one of the biggest things a HC can hang their hat on. The more freedom the QB has, the less glory goes to the HC. That's if they win, of course.
Yep. We stomped any team that was poorly coached or less talented than us, but once we went up against some of the better teams in our conference we got rolled. Our OC refused to pass the football besides a waggle or a sprint out; it's tough to compete with the wing-t once you're down multiple scores.
It's definitely a fun offense to be a part of once you get rolling, it can be real demoralizing watching a team run the ball down your throat all game. It was also real fun watching our tailback run by me when I was blocking downfield. The coaches made fun of me for always being the first one celebrating but whatever, it was worth it.
Frankly, I think the NFL ought adopt a rule that prohibits the plays being called by anyone not on the field. Before Landry and Staubach, QBs called most of their own plays...it was considered a measure of the QB. Allowing coaches to call the plays was a bad decision. Coaches are way too involved and it drags the game down. They should limit how many substitutions can be made (like in soccer) to prevent coaches from using the subs to send in plays. And of course they need to abolish the radio headsets! This would speed up the game and make it much more entertaining IMO.
That's a wild thought, man. Pace of play isn't an issue in terms of plays coming in and out. That's what the play clock prohibits. You'd see the quarterbacks use up the entire play clock anyway to analyze the play.
I disagree. If the QB was calling his own plays, he wouldn't need to wait for the sub to come in, announce the play, and then have to "analyze" it...he would simply call the play he feels would work best. And being in the game, in the flow, he has a much better feel for what's actually happening than anyone on the sideline.
According to Gase, he didn't even give Darnold the option to audible on that 4th and 1. The guy is total dog shit. https://nypost.com/2020/09/21/adam-gases-weird-explanation-for-jets-play-calling-disaster/
Subbing players in is factored into the play lock though. It doesn't stop when you sub. Besides if they did that, Jared Goff would probably be out of the league and he has a lot more money to create a lobby to fight your cause.
The Raiders tonight are showing what a great coach can do for you. Honestly, they look like they will be right in the thick of things this year. They are not complete by any means, injuries, etc. but great calls.
There are some here who have said - emphatically - that coaching doesn't make any difference, it's the players that do. I hope they're reflecting on what 4 years of Bowles, and 1+of Gase have meant to this team, and contrast that with the other teams who have undergone major rebuilds in that time with good coaches and GMs.
The Raiders also invested heavily in the Oline and it shows, Carr actually looks like a QB when he has protection.
