Well said. He should have been fired midseason last year. If he goes out and they look like garbage against the 49ers, he should go and Gregg Williams should be given the reigns for an extended job interview essentially. I'm not saying that we should hire Williams, but based on his work with the defense last year and what he did in Cleveland when he took over (actually posted a winning record with the Browns and got something out of Baker Mayfield), he would deserve that opportunity to lead the team the rest of the way and get an interview. Whatever they do, though, if there's any chance for the Jets to ever get this turned around, there needs to be a new HC next season.
I'm not one to blame other people for one player's struggles. Players picked at the top of the draft usually get picked by the worst teams that's the way the system is set up. So it should come as no surprise that Darnold has gotten his butt kicked a bit so far. JMO he hasn't had it all that bad. I see comparisons to Carr that's exaggerating things he hasn't been brutalized from what I've seen. I'll say this for Darnold he's a better player than Sanchez & Geno were and he still shows glimpses from time to time. Regardless of his age he's a three years veteran now it's time for him to do the JOB he was selected to do. It's fashionable to blame Gase for everything now but Gase's offense has been proven to work and work very, very well in the NFL. If I'm not mistaken his Denver offense still stands as the greatest offense in NFL history. I understand Darnold hasn't been dealt the best hand I get it but he has to overcome adversity. If he doesn't step up he has to be held accountable for the JOB he's not doing. I'd like to see what Gase's offense looks like with Flacco or another high draft pick QB (in 2021) before the Jets fire him.
Exactly. There were plays to be made last week he didn't make them. He has to trust his teammates & coaches. If he's out there playing scared, taking sacks instead of throwing the ball away, missing open WRs that's on him.
Its game day. Lets be hopeful! Lack of practice and pre season could be the issue. Maybe he starts making those plays out there. (I'm a Jets fan I have no hope)
We have to remember Sam is still only 23 years old, some QBs don’t reach the best playing days until their 30s. I am not saying we should wait that long, but I do feel he is a professional who is totally focussed on improving himself and his team. He is not a distraction or a polarising personality that rubs some people up the wrong way. He has shown some very good signs but we must see him be able to sustain drives better this year. That won’t be easy given the lack of talent around him. He has had his confidence massively dented in NY and has had 2 years of poor OL play. Also, his best receivers are really only WR3s on other teams and he hasn’t had good RBs to rely heavily on the run game to move the ball. I do think Sam realises the gravity of the situation he finds his offense in and tries to force things, just to get something happening. You can’t blame him for that as it must be so frustrating for him. However, he must play sensibly. Unfortunately for him, and us, with his supporting cast he will be lucky to lead us to 10 points per game this season! I think Sam can be saved by a good creative offensive mind; but we have to give him weapons and that is the main focus next offseason, with all the salary cap and draft capital we have. Daniel Jeremiah has eluded to this being the plan, and he knows Joe Douglas pretty well. I just hope Sam doesn’t lose confidence in the organisation and not want to stay here when we are finally about to get him some playmakers. Obviously, if we suck this year and end with the number one pick, we can either draft Trevor Lawrence (if he wants to come here!), or we trade it for even more first round picks that will give us every opportunity to completely rebuild the whole team and stand us in good stead for the next decade or more. So, an awful record this year might not be the worst thing in the world for us Jets fans. We just want signs that Sam can be a leader and will be our future hope, when we finally provide him the chance to succeed.
Heading into the game I was so frustrated I wasn't going to watch today's game since forever. Sam Darnold made me watch. I couldn't not watch him I want him to be so good I guess fk Jamal Adams I finally said it let's build for Sam. And one day soon have a fun offense to root for. I hope Sam shows off 2020 no help or not
So sorry you didn't like the example of a good player who might have been able to win. On second thoughts, go fuck yourself. I'll use whatever examples I like and you can ignore me, like I usually do you.
No pass rush again! All the time in the world. We need an edge so bad! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
If Sam was taken by the Bills or Ravens, we'd be wondering what we missed out on while whichever QB we took would be considered ruined.
Rarely a Qb leaves here and is better. The Jets don’t do QBs any favors with lack of playmakers and terrible coaching but they also pick the wrong QBs as well and make them worse. Sams career looks like it’s heading more towards the Mark Sanchez route.
Yes. He's ruined. We've ruined him. Well not we (us) but the Jets have ruined him. With the #1 pick of the 2021 NFL draft. The New York Jets select QB out of Clemson; Trevor Lawrence. Sam Darnold (once a promising 3rd overall pick of the 1st round) gets traded to a team for a 5th or 6th round draft pick (at most). The Jets ruined his confidence on the field, stunted his growth every offseason and tarnished his trade value (he's no Jamal Adams #33 people). Darnold is done. He'll never become any good let alone elite. Not his fault. Jets have ruined him.
I don't see how we trade Darnold for that if we get #1. I will say it would be absolutely asinine if Trevor keeps doing what he is doing and we go 1-15. Jets are ruining Sam with this group of talent
Problem is Jets have so many holes we needed to fix the OL. It will be interesting to see if the Jets stay with Darnold or move on. He really has crap to throw to so maybe we give him another year and get some WRs in the dratt.
