I am trying to give Gase the chance to impress with one of the worst rosters ever, but this speaks volumes:
Sometime I wonder if they get their material from message boards. Or maybe they’re just good at their trades.
I was one who was willing to give him this entire year to prove his worth. I have moved dramatically to just one more week. If he shits the bed again this weekend, I would can his ass immediately and let Williams take over. This is the perfect year to do so.
I was in the same camp. And I stay in the camp that he did an OK job last year despite the weak schedule. This team was a couple breaks away from the playoffs last year. This is a bottom 5 roster this year and might've been the worst in football last year given the offensive line disaster. But if rookie Joe Burrow with a garbage line can hang 30 during a Thursday Night Game, then this offense needs to show something. I give him until the end of September. And if Sam and the offense don't look competent this week, well, I just shined up my pitchfork so it's ready.
I was also willing to give him a chance. He blew it. Barring an absolute miracle this season we’ll miss the playoffs again while looking putrid on offense the entire time.
Did you catch that game? Looks like he played really well. Did he look as good in his second week in the league as Sam ever has?
He looked good. Tough to draw a comparison. Their line sucks but they have a stud young runningback and weapons all over the field. Auden Tate - their #5 receiver would probably be our #1. Joe is going to be a good player in this league if they improve his protection. He doesn't have the natural arm talent that Sam has outside the numbers (floats the ball a little bit too much at times), but the biggest thing I took away from his play on Thursday was that he was willing to battle even when he got tossed around. He didn't look scared. Sam looks like scared as hell out there in the face of the rush. EDIT: Honestly, I think part of Sam's issue is that he needs to stop being scared to turn the ball over including fumbling the rock. It was a big problem with him in college and he wanted to work to fix it as a pro. But he's tentative to throw into tight windows (he can - he has the arm), or fumble in the face of the rush and he needs to get past it. I'd rather see him make a couple mistakes trying to make a play then tucking the ball every other play or hurling it away.
He was. But to be fair in the comparison to Burrow, his coach is an equally massive egghead as Gase is. Completely abandoned the run in the second half, wasn't chipping Garrett every obvious passing situation, basically wouldn't put Burrow under center to try and slow the rush, running read options at players who are much much faster than the QB. And Burrow still looked better. That's what worries me about our quarterback.
I only watched the highlights but seen he had attempted nearly 70 passes or something close, completing 40 or so (from memory lol) he looked smooth in the pocket while locating his target, nice action it seemed but I am no expert on that stuff lol
He's on pace to get sacked 48 times this year. Their line looks like ours did last year so he's going to get tossed around. The difference is that when he moves around he has receivers that are open and can catch the ball. Point well taken though - it's too early to judge. Just some early observations on him.
ATM I am pretty down on how Darnold is playing in his third year in this league..and having major second thoughts But a lot of us, myself included, would be close to the edge if Sam was traded and went on to the AFC Championship,, sheesh Just get rid of Gase, give Williams the HC job and see what flies already
Really Gase and Darnold are on the last leg. Just hope that they can make it work. But just really really need to think of something.
This shouldnt be one of the worst rosters ever.....It became that a few months ago.We are worse then last year.We cant keep rebuilding every season this whole idea has to stop.
I agree that the bleeding has to stop at some point but when a new manager comes in they often clean house. I wish Douglas had resigned Anderson - that’s one mistake I think he made this offseason - because in my opinion our WR’s are a weak group. Even with Anderson, it still wouldn’t have necessarily been a great group, and that’s assuming Mims had an immediate impact. Anderson, Crowder, and Mims could have been something to work with. Simply having Anderson could have helped Mims develop. Now, you take Crowder out of the game and you’re golden. It’s Berrios, Hogan, and Perriman this week...I think? Who?
This is sorta my point....we demand Sam/Gase look respectable against teams like the NFC Champ 9ers with THIS fn roster? Add in a 37 yr old RB and an oline with a rookie LT playing their 2nd game EVER? We DO have skill players that could help make the team respectable: Williamson, CJ Mosley, Le'Veon Bell, Denzel Mims, Jamison Crowder. But unfortunately NONE of these skill guys will be on the field today. In their place we have Berrios and Hogan's Heroes. Our season doesn't start until week 5 when we have our players back on the field (for the first time).
Starting to get frustrated w the Gase uproar; Not that he isnt horrible but bc the team’s personnel is just as bad if not worse & the ownership is DEFINITELY worse. “Well Douglas hasnt been here long enough & Ownership isnt going anywhere”. That shouldnt be an excuse. It feels like this whole thing is just a scapegoat mechanism & a witch hunt. “The team is bad again so who do we blame the most,to get fired so we can feel better?”Whats more important?Accountability for the scapegoat of the year OR calling out the whole organization collectively starting w ownership for this horrible excuse for a football program??
Well fellas here we go... SF TD on 1st play. Going to be long day? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
