I don’t think he’s overrated. He’s an amazing skater but still has to figure out the game. I don’t think anyone who actually watches him thinks he’s more than that.
Great season. Isles gave everything they had . Sucks we lost but this team is learning how to win with this playoff run. Hoping Lou can improve the offense and Sorokin is the real deal. Next year we try again
I thought for sure last night it was going to game 7.... to the point where I regrettably broke out the bourbon to start the 3rd It was a good run. Theyre still a few pieces away
Because of the cap, we are going to start seeing an influx of all that young talent we’ve been hearing about. If they deliver, there’s no reason we don’t take the next step in a year or two.
Great run, Islanders fans! I felt similar to @stinkyB last night. As OT went on, I felt the Isles were about to force a Game 7. They played better in a few stretches there where they had all the momentum. I feel bad for Varly to allow that goal to end it, but he played really well for you guys. It's a mixed feeling when you are eliminated from the playoffs so close to the Cup Final. In one way, you feel the future is bright. In another way, you say I am back to (0-0) with all these other great teams in the NHL and have to start all over. It's not easy to get to where the Islanders were. I think they proved to the rest of the NHL, and more importantly to themselves, that they can play with anyone. Should be fun to see what moves they make in the off-season to potentially take the next step!
Islanders held the "topping off" ceremony for the UBS Arena today. This is apparently the most expensive hockey arena ever built, and already has 60 concerts booked for it. https://abc7ny.com/sports/islanders-new-home-ubs-arena-holds-topping-off-ceremony/6897227/
https://www.tsn.ca/new-york-islanders-to-sign-goaltender-cory-schneider-1.1537911 Isles close to signing former Devils goalie Cory Schneider. I wonder if this means Varlamov will be traded to clear up some cap space. They need to resign a bunch of their own FA's as well as try to improve the offense then they need to clear some salary. Sorokin is going to be "THE GUY" in net anyway. Maybe Schneider can be a decent backup.
I would not be in favor of dumping Varlamov in favor of Schneider unless the haul is incredibly good - Schneider has been below average since 2016. Varlamov isn't as good as he was in the playoffs, but he's certainly better than Schneider, and two years younger, too.
#Isles announce they've traded RFA D Devon Toews to COL for 2021 2nd and 2022 2nd round picks. — Arthur Staple (@StapeAthletic) October 12, 2020
Not sure how I feel about this - I always worry when teams get rid of talent. If they can turn the cap space and picks (and a player like Boychuk?) into a top scoring winger it will be worth it, but if all it does is keep this team together it's a step back.
Toews wasn't bad but he hit his ceiling, it was a good move. They need to move on from Boychuck as well. I know some coaches liked him when he was younger but he's not worth the price at this point. I'd rather bring back Greene for a year and move Boychuck for a pick or 2. That would open up more $$ to keep guys they really need.
Yeah, I have no qualms moving Toews for picks if they are, in turn, going to be used to unload Boychuk. Toews wasn’t so great that it would be unreasonable to expect Dobson to perform equally. At some point Dobson had to be given his chance and this is how those chances usually come.
Isles have (for reasons that are completely mysterious to me) re-signed Ho-Sang to a two-way deal that is worth $700,000 in the NHL. I don't see him ever playing in the NHL for the Isles (or likely anyone else, either). Nothing at this point to suggest that the team is addressing any of its obvious weaknesses.
