Burning it down just for the sake of burning it down doesn't make sense to me.

It could make sense in certain situations a older roster with a bunch of overpaid players. That wasn't the case here he let our #1 wr young about to hit his prime years walk away. No injury history. He traded away our best player one of the best players in football the saving grace is he got proper value in return. Again no injury history.

I think both players could've helped and deserved to be here.

Let Douglas see this thing through let's see what his plan us. He's here because of Gase so stick with Gase too. Apparently they have a good working relationship.

Let's see what the plan is instead of pulling the plug early.

  2. The problem is lack of trust.

i dont trust JD to be different bc just like all the other GMs he is content letting both edge & WR fester for yet ANOTHER season. I dont trust him to address those needs.I really dont.I fully expect another DT & a LB/corner w our first picks next yr. hes just like every other GM weve had.And until his transactions say otherwise hes just another GM that is content to see a garbage product on the field.

Burn what down? The roster has been burnt to a crisp to the point where there's barely even ashes. We have a burnt down roster that needs to be rebuilt.

Like I’d mentioned in another post, the roster was already trash, he just lit the match to burn it to ashes.

I'm willing to stick it out for a couple of years and see where Douglas' plan takes the franchise. But, at this point, I think we've hit rock bottom, if that's being considered to be the worst team in the league. I don't look around and see a team as bad as ours, with a combination of poor coaching, poor talent, and inept ownership that comes close to rivaling us.

If we're going to be delivered from this mess, it's going to be by Douglas. We know it's not going to be Adam Gase that gets us out of this, and it sure as heck isn't going to be the Johnsons. That's not to say that Douglas will ultimately get the job done, as the proof is always in the results and we're not far into it enough to see that yet, but he's the only person that I think can get us out of this that we can realistically expect to be a part of the franchise any time soon.

Sure, there’s no reason to trust anyone the Jets hire. We’re living in the worst stretch of Jets football in the teams history right now, I think. Maybe it’s the second longest playoff drought? Regardless, the lack of trust is well earned.

What was 2018? Seemed like rock bottom to me. The team was a flat out embarrassment. The Head Coach was fired. Then for some crazy reason (drafting Sam I think), the General Manager was not. Another year went by, and the GM was fired.

So now we start from scratch with Joe Douglas as General Manager. He has a plan and I think it includes Sam Darnold and Adam Gase. You are suggesting to hit rock bottom, essentially sacrificing Sam so you can get rid of Gase? I don't like that. The Jets need to continue to build, improve, and develop chemistry with this core group.

It sounds simple to get a new QB, but things would move a lot better if Sam is that QB. You don't want him completely flopping and going (2-14). I think Peyton Manning did it as a rookie, but this is Year 3 for Sam. He needs to see some positives this season.

  8. The excuse for 2018...frankly as far back as 2017...was that the team's goal was to be competitive by 2020 . Well here we are start of a new decade. Does anyone think this roster is even CLOSE to competitive?

I do because the Jets will have 2 1st Round picks next year, plenty of cap space to add talent too, so the potential is there if this current core group can grow in 2020. I think players like Sam, Becton, Quinnen, Mims, Crowder, Herndon, Griffin, McGovern, Mosley, Maye, Davis, Perine, Austin, Poole, Jenkins, Cashman, Basham, etc have potential. So build around them, and success should happen. I like Bell too but he will clearly have to take a pay cut in 2021, and I don't see that happening.

  10. I wish I shared your optimism. It goes back to i dont trust JD. He doesn't value the spots we have needed help at FOREVER. I can't get excited knowing the crap we'll be selecting in next yr's draft.

I feel like Douglas has a plan and felt the Jets would not be competing for a Super Bowl this season, so he was going to save the splash signings/trades for 2021. A pass rusher, #1 WR, etc. I could be wrong and it is just wishful thinking, but it makes sense to me. I did not expect the Jets to make a Super Bowl push this season either, but I did think they would be more competitive.

I do IF Sam Darnold is indeed a franchise QB, which for the first time I have doubts about.

IF Darnold is the guy and IF JD is a good drafter then I think we are not as far away as we seem right now.

I fully realize both are big ifs but both are out only hope right now and if one or the other don’t turn out then it will likely be another decade of misery.

Rock Bottom (btw... UFO Rock Bottom from their Strangers in the Night Album is an AWESOME song) only means something if the ownership and front office structure, scouting dept is in place AND the GM is in charge of hiring the next coach, that coach reports to the GM and he makes the right choice hiring the coach.

I think JD can be the right GM for this resurgence but right now he doesn't have much power so you have craZy eyes (who never should have been hired) on equal standing with JD.

Woody / Chris need to fire Gase and get rid of the stupid coach/GM have equal voices. That can work in an organization where the owners are competent, that clearly isn't the case with this teams owners. The only way I see a resurgence is if JD is given power over the coach. They can still hire a President / head of football operations that JD reports into but the coach must report into the GM and the GM have the ability to fire the coach.

JD's time schedule is longer term, people whining about not taking xxxx rookie WR in the 4th round of a draft over a QB does not make him a bad GM. The plan is to build from the lines out, skill players come last, they can be diva's and many run themselves out of town in short order. Lineman can stick with a franchise for a decade. A franchise QB can last longer. If JD isn't convinced they have the franchise QB in place then I'm all for taking one where he did in the draft and every draft until one sticks. I see nothing wrong with his plan. He dumped a diva safety for very good draft picks. That is what a GM does to a team cancer. That will improve the team.

I'm optimistic about JD and the scouting dept but I have zero confidence in Gase and even less in Woody / Chris restructuring the team properly for success.

I really hope Joe proves you wrong. Because if he doesn't, there's no hope for this franchise. He has by far the best resume of any GM we've had since Parcells.

As much as I hate to admit it, I feel the defense and Sam will get them to at least 4 wins. Just out of reach of the #1 pick. The defense has talent and I can’t see them not making an impact in a few games.

This is the curse of the Jets: somehow, some way, the Jets will win enough games in the second half to not bottom out.

If we had just completely bottomed out over these last few years we'd probably have at least one Bosa and wouldn't have needed to trade picks to get Sam... But never fails once there's nothing left to play for the team comes alive and starts getting wins.
