and Sanchez was not lights out. He was carried to the playoffs both in 2009 and 2010. He played very well in the playoffs, but still was not the QB we needed. If you like JD, then you better adjust your thinking because without Gase, we probably wouldn't have JD as our GM right now. We'd still have Mac or some other doofus. Why would you hope that Gase is gone by mid-season? What's best for the team is that Gase proves everyone wrong and the team plays well and is competitive this year. If he's gone by mid-season, that means the team is playing like shit (maybe winless or only 1-2 wins. That means the team is starting over again next year, G. Williams will probably be gone as DC, and Sam will be playing for this 3rd HC and OC, and in his 3rd offensive system in 4 years. None of that will be good for the team.
The offense is never going to take off as long as Gase is involved. His employment with the Jets is the first in a long line of obstacles standing between the Jets and anything resembling a decent football team.
Why is release Darnold an option? Like even if you don't think he's the future who in there right mind just straight up releases him?
Let's be real, our offense isn't going to look good. We still have... - A bad coach. - Substandard weapons. - A new OL that isn't good to begin with and will need time to mesh. It's an Adam Gase-led offense where Jamison Crowder, I guess, is the top weapon. We're going to be bad. We finished last year 6-2, the final five games where we went 3-2 we averaged 15.6 PPG, which would be dead last over the course of the 2019 season. Call it like it is, there were fluke wins in there. Gase will be gone after this year and Douglas will continue to add weapons and address areas of need. The real question is what does Douglas do if we finish with a top 2 pick.
Sanchez was lights out that preseason, but in season very mediocre. I was replying to someone said we had no good preseasons since Mangini. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
On other note, I think Gase is not the answer going forward, since he helped hire JD, then would be hard for JD to fire Gase... but I do like JD. But will JD be able to hire his choice as coach. That’s where I see a things turning around for jets! JD and coach of his choice. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
If our offense struggles at all I don't see why they should wait till the end of the year to release Darnold. Just dump his ass midweek.
In the Jets organizational structure the HC does not report to the GM, they are peers reporting to the owner, so its not JDs role to fire Gase. But it is possible for one to successfully lobby the owner to have the other fired as Gase did with Macc (thank you Gase!).
Wish you could see who voted for what because what moron voted for release Sam. Probably champ if I had to bet money.
I voted for fire Gase and add weapons as it was essentially the only option. Something to think about, if the situation that the OP laid out actually comes to fruition, would it be time to move on from Sam and go after Lawerence/Fields? Have to imagine if the offense is that bad and Sam continues to be inconsistent, we'll have a very high pick, top 3-5 I would imagine. Not that I want Sam to fail, nor am I convinced that he will. I still have hope that he's our guy but he definitely needs to take a step forward this year, despite all of the limitations. So if Sam continues to struggle/stays inconsistent, I think it's an option that absolutely has to be considered based off of where we would be drafting. And by move on, I mean attempt to trade him for a mid-late round pick, it would be lunacy to just release Sam after this year.
But this torture has reached a peak and the fat lady is refusing to listen to the specified safe word. wide receiver, WIDE RECEIVER, WIDE RECEIVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
if it fails then reboot. If Sam isnt good enough to make impact then he aint it. The Jets are on the track to fire a coach and get a new one to 'fix" Sam and by then the damage will already be done blah blah. They need a coach # 1 and i like Sam but they have ruined him already. ( yes ruined - cause this year will be a disaster)
The root of all of this is the abandonment or just complete mishandling of the offense specifically in the draft since 2011. Things were so slanted in the D’s favor in terms of resources/Hitting on only D players for so long its had a crippling affect on our offense along w the constant turnover of O coordinators. When it comes to drafting its all about Balance. That said the Jets offensive personnel has been so bad for so long the only way to really get back to square one of balance on both sides of the ball is to fixate for 1 draft. Its thats bad & extreme of a situation. Truly believe that.
The only other team that's done such a disservice to a talented quarterback like we have Darnold is what the Lions have done with Stafford. And despite him virtually never having a running game throughout the past 11 years, he at least had Calvin Johnson. For the most part they have actually tried to put pieces around him too. We just flat out haven't tried to build an offense since 2006.
We tried under rex, but he sucked at drafted. Remember stephen hill? We did get some good free agents though. LT, Braylon Edwards, Holmes.
It's not a crazy take, but you will need to be picking 1 to get Lawrence and likely 2 to get Fields (Fields is up in the air a bit more because of the Big 10 season being in question). I doubt the teams that will be taking them will move their picks like the Browns and Titans did. I think the likely teams in contention will be the Jaguars, Washington and maybe the Chargers. The Chargers are the only team that would deal the pick. If we are picking top 3, then that means Sam was pretty bad and we absolutely need to consider making the move. I don't like Fields (reminds me of Mariota to be honest). Lawrence is a no brainer. I do not believe (minus another catastrophic injury year and Sam missing a lot of games) that this team will be that bad though. The defense is too good. Any team that stops the run as efficiently as this defense can, will be in ball games. The percentages tell you that when you can force that many third and longs, the opposing offenses will struggle somewhat.
