depth & long term the receiving corps is shit. Everyone knows that as shown here. But on a game basis, say week 1. Is a lineup of Perriman, Hogan, Crowder & Moncrief really that bad?
Serviceable at best. With Mims a little better, since unknown. But regardless bottom of the league as WR position goes. I am sure Sam wishes he had Tampa’s corps. Lol Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
He is a great route runner, works hard, and maximizes his talent, but he's slow, and imo Jefferson is not going to amount to much in the NFL. Mims should be 10x the WR Jefferson is.
Straight line speed is irrelevant for a player like Jefferson considering how quick he is in and out of his breaks. I think he was easily our target which is why Douglas thought he could trade down and still nab him and got snake bitten. He's 6'1", 200 pounds but he always looked a little bit skinny to me. That would be the only concern. I think he'll be a good player. He won't be the deep threat Mims can be. But he can be a good NFL possession receiver.
He may become a good possession receiver, but that's his ceiling. If JD was targeting Jefferson instead of Mims, then I lose a sizable of confidence and faith in JD.
Just an unverified hunch. His dad's our receivers coach and we were all over him in workouts and what not. Brandon Marshall was a good possession receiver. So is DeAndre Hopkins. It doesn't mean limited, it means they're going to move the chains more than they will catch contested 40-50 yard bombs.
Yes, I know his dad is our WR coach and were scouting him. Nice story, but Mims is by far the better WR prospect imo. I also know that there are good possession WRs. Wayne Chrebet was one. So was Keyshawn. Given the choice, I will opt for a WR like Mims every day and twice on Sunday over a possession WR. I wouldn't have minded Jefferson as the second WR we took in the draft after Lamb or Mims, but not as the only WR.
That video floating around the internet of Van Jefferson running routes in camp was a thing of beauty. I’ve seen enough reports of Van being the Jets target after the trade down that I believe it. I do love when posters act like they know more than possibly the best offensive mind in the game who did in fact pick Van before Mims.
Jefferson was hands down the more polished receiver. Mims has the higher ceiling though, much higher IMO. But it also makes perfect sense that the Rams would take the great route runner when they already have Woods and Kupp.
the guy the Bills got in the 4th round, Gabriel Davis, I never heard of him myself but he's been really impressive in their camp
Personally, I think Jefferson is better talent overall, only time will tell. Mims has the tools but needs to be on the field to use them. Not that I am down on Mims, but not happy on field. Remember Smith was flashing first camp, then injury and then fell off the cliff. We have had so many busts at WR that I am a bit negative. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I agree that the WR position has a chance to be serviceable. I'm hoping that Moncrief replaces Hogan as the veteran with starting experience and that a young guy like Malone comes on. This would result in starters Perriman/Moncrief/Crowder backed up by Malone/Mims/Berrios. Great speed in both starter and reserve units, and Perriman, Moncrief, Crowder, and Malone all have NFL starting experience.
On the flip side, Interesting they had 2 nice route runners and didn’t take a speed guy when Mims fell to them... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I think he’s just a better fit for what they do. You have two solidified top tier receivers, go with the safe pick.
This is what I’ve been thinking all along. I think there’s a good chance Claypool and Jefferson we’re both priorities over Mims. Edit: While everyone was holding their breath on if Mims would be there, I was watching for Jefferson and Claypool. I’m satisfied with Mims as well but those two were who I had my eye on.
I'm not acting like I know more than Sean McVay. Why don't you try acting like you know something about football instead of acting like an ass? Teams don't just pick who they think is the best WR prospect in a vacuum. There are a number of factors that they consider including scheme fit; whether they need an X, Y, or Z; height; speed; hands; work ethic; character; whether blocking is important to them; being pro ready vs a player who may need a year or so of development, etc. It also depends upon where they are as a team. Are they a team who has a window for a Lombardi Trophy? If so, they're most likely going to go with the more polished prospect, rather than one who has a higher ceiling, but may take a year or two to develop. Conversely, a team like the Jets that is rebuilding and probably a year or so away from being truly competitive, will more likely opt for the prospect with the higher ceiling greater potential. The Jets may have targeted Jefferson because he is polished and his father is WR coach, but if so, I stand by my comment that would have been a mistake.
We took DarArius Stewart instead of Chris Godwin. Imagine our WR room would be so much better today. Glad we have Joe now, so we can hit on more picks! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
