So far in camp, it seems the offense is really struggling to perform well in scrimmages. Could be due to a multitude of reasons, but if we suck...I doubt everyone gets a pass at the seasons end. Injuries or not.... This poll is assuming we struggle on offense this year, low offensive ranking and Darnold puts up average or below average numbers. I usually would post this right after preseason, but there is none
Too many variables and not enough options listed. The simple and logical answer for me Is to fire Gase and add more weapons.
IMO there needs to be another option: Fire Gase and add more weapons. There are definitely not enough weapons or high enough caliber weapons. It's like we're bring a water gun or maybe a .22 caliber pistol to a war. Still, barring injury to Sam, Herndon, Crowder, Bell and Perriman, the offense should be better than last year. Sam knows the offense, is more comfortable, confident and in command. He has comfort and confidence with Herndon, Griffin, and Crowder, and is building that with Gore, Perine, and Perriman. The OL should be better. Everyone has a bad day at the office so if we struggle once or twice against a topnotch D, that could be understandable. If the offense struggles for most of the season, however, or if they light it up some games, but look clueless in others, that falls on Gase. IMO it's way too early to even think about moving on from Sam, much less stating it. I've been patient and have taken a wait and see attitude with Gase, but this season is his make or break point for me. If the team (and offense especially) doesn't look decidedly better, then Gase must go. Regardless of whom the HC is next year, we need to add at least two top quality WRs and a RB to the offense and continue to upgrade the OL.
I voted to fire AG and add more weapons. I have stated it in other posts. If this team, say after four games (allow OL to gel and some WR back), looks non-competitive with poor execution, penalties and terrible PCing, then yes AG is part of if not the problem. In addition, its time we get some bonified WR in her that can run the entire route tree and catch the ball.
When we hired hase instead of mccarthy it made me sick. I would fire him and make gregg williams headcoach, that way darnold gets both the change and continuity he needs. We might ruin another potentially great qb, O'Brien, sanchez, darnold, hell you could even argue pennington. Williams was winning games as head coach of the browns, i think he can win games with this team.
Can't we just assume that "add more weapons" is part of the plan no matter what else happens? No? All righty.
Adding more weapons is a no brainer. Just look at who our WR's are. We also have a 37 year old RB, a 28 year old who could be on the decline, and a rookie who just got hurt. Taking a RB is basically a must in next year's draft. As for Sam, he's had arguably the worst situation a young QB could ask for in his first 2+ years. He's had a few stretches when he's shown flashes of his potential, but they haven't occurred on a consistent basis. I'm not thinking about moving on from him yet. Gase is TBD. I'm not sold, but he kept the team together after a 1-7 start last year. If the offense ends up bottom 5 though.....
Fire Gase and continue to build OL and WRs. Need the offense to not be completely devoid of talent for either the next QB or if Darnold is ever going to take off. Darnold is still only 23 yrs old which is crazy.
Gase gets the axe if we're not hanging around the wild card at the start of December and Sam doesn't progress from his first two seasons (which are pretty much the same output). We then hire either Eric Bienemy or Byron Leftwich and hope they're OK keeping Greg Williams around.
I think you are brain dead if you don't think Douglas is going to be signing many weapons this next offseason. The question will be with Gase, not the moves Douglas will make with players. I think it is a foregone conclusion that Douglas will be drafting offensive playmakers next year
I think this whole season is just an evaluation on several pieces. If darnold shows 0 progression or regresses then both he and gase are in v. Hot water, gase will be gone. If Darnold progresses then he'll stay, we'll help him and depending on how the team goes gase may stay. Its going to take a solid team and coaching performance for this team to keep Gase. I agree and I have always said that this season is going to mean everything for Gase. Was hard to truly evaluate him last season and he did some really good things even with the horrible injuries we had. I also think it is ignorant to think Joe D could possibly fix the entire offensive line and weapons in one offseason. I think he was very smart first addressing the line. We should expect him to make major moves to help improve the offense as a whole next year
The noise coming out of this camp is no different to the training camps since 2008. Have the offense ever had a good training camp since Mangini?
You guyz kill me. You load every thread with "we suck....ZERO talent....WRs the worse in the entire NFL....Bell is done...". Then..."if we struggle FIRE GASE!!!"
I’d start with getting rid of the guy who was so bad for the 3 years leading up to being hired by us that he shouldn’t have gotten another head coaching job. But our problems are plentiful. WR corps is disastrous, OL is still patchwork at best if you’re looking behind this year, RB situation will undoubtedly change. We’re a long ways away.
