A conditional 7th round pick. This is a training camp body and some depth for the covid shit every team is going to deal with. Everyone is going to need a lot of backup guys waiting in the wings unfortunately - look at what is happening with baseball.
So signing a nobody and potentially giving up a late round conditional pick is proof that we are dealing Bell? What in the hell are you all smoking?
I definitely don’t think this has anything to do with Bell but take a look at who we are taking about. Historically, we are inept. If you connect the dots between Gase and Ballage’s past, Gase’s misuse of Bell and refusal to support him publicly, Bell whining on Twitter, Gase praising Gore.... you can’t rule anything out 100%. Maybe 75% but not 100
I do not think we are trading Bell. That is my opinion that is not based in anything other than my assumption. My point was that this pickup has ZERO to do with that possibility. Logically, that makes no sense, whatsoever.
Relax guys lol this is a move to improve special teams. Currently I don’t believe there is an experienced KR on the roster. Ballage has returned kicks and he was known as an athletic freak with a 6’2”, 225 lb frame who can run a 4.4. So he’s super athletic and will likely be returning kicks.
this could totally be it as well. I just think nutsack gase refuses to accept bell as his starter that's why he's rebuilding his trash dolphins backfield (not that I don't have loads of respect for gore). just think it fits with how that dildo gase is using or not using bell...that plus the rando "hamstring injury" for bell. Could be protecting his health while they work out a trade. I think Joe D wants draft picks to help the rebuild more than he wants a stud RB his recto cranial head coach isn't going to use...I could totally be wrong. All speculation because....offseason.
It is a fact that Gase didn't want Bell, they seemed to say all the right things, Bell praising Gase etc but then the mask slipped with the tweets the other day. It isn't a good look if the HC says a player was injured and then the player says he was not, certainly means one is lying their arse off.
Your theory would revolve around Gase making these moves or Douglas making moves when Gase says he should. Both cases I think are horseshit. This seems like a move that Douglas made to improve the special teams and potentially add another piece with the possibility of giving up a late round compensation pick.
In defense of Gase, he never said he was injured. He said he had tightness in his hamstring and he wanted to avoid injuring him. Which if this is accurate, which I have no reason to think it is not, it was a smart move on Gase's part. Why risk your best offensive weapon and starting RB when he has hamstring tightness. It sounds like a player wanting to play at all times and a coach taking the logical approach to avoid injury. Happens in every sport everyday
True, it is a sensible move but the player refuted he was tight by saying 'hard to stay loose, when not playing' Then again that sentence can be construed as he was a little tight and not loose because he wasn't getting the reps. The bigger problem is the dissent, though minor, it does go against everything else that has been said so far.
I think other posters are right that it is most likely just a special teams pickup. my "bell getting traded" postulate was exactly that...an unsubstantiated hypothesis and i presented it as such. Just trying to find some distractions/entertainment during a pandemic. Obviously not your cup of tea. Have a good one.
This move is so insignificant that the guy’s name has been wrong in the thread title for four pages now and no one gives a shit.
If they were tanking he wouldn't have rebuilt the team and signed 15 free agents. Bell was awful last year - the reasons why can be debated. His offensive line was atrocious. He looked slow. Whatever the reason is he made $15 million for a horrible output. I'm not really sure what backlash will be faced for a guy that had one of the worst runningback seasons we've seen in a long time for the amount of touches he got.
As I said, I don't believe they are tanking. I don't think that's in JD's mental makeup. I think there are 4 primary reasons Bell was bad last season. One, he has admitted that he wasn't in good shape. Two, he had rust from not playing for two years. Three, the Jets' OL was awful. Four, Gase has admitted that he mishandled using Bell last season. Many great players have bad seasons due to injury or whatever, and they bounce back. I believe that Bell will. Even if he doesn't, I believe the expectation among most Jets fans is that Bell will bounce back and have a very good season, if not a great season.
He hasn't had a good season since 2017. He's 28. This season is his last shot. To expect anything more out of him in his age 29/30 season over the next two years is crazy. He's gone at the end of the year regardless.
Duh. When you don't play a season, it's kind of hard to have a good season. I fully expect this to be his last season with the Jets, but that doesn't mean he couldn't go out with a bang. I never said anything about expecting anything over the next two seasons. Don't put words in my mouth or try to make strawman arguments with me.
No one's creating a straw man. The fact that he will be cut at the end of the year is a kicker to trading him for a high pick now. He's a rental at this point for us and I imagine that his career is close to done as most runningbacks careers are as they enter these graveyard years. There are exceptions to the rule. He could be one - but I doubt it. Even if he goes on to keep playing for a couple more years, he won't be worth the price tag. He'll have a better year if he's here. Is he going to be superstar LeVeon like was with Pittsburgh? Doubt it.
