The Diaz collapse continues to be mysterious, but at this point it can't be viewed as surprising. Otherwise it has mostly been that what they hoped for hasn't ended up happening, and when it did (Cano coming back, for example) injuries ruin it anyway. My biggest concern is the Polar Bear. He looks like the league (which includes part of the AL as well this year, of course) has figured him out. I didn't expect Alonso to be hitting 53 again (in a full year), but his ceiling suddenly looks like Kingman, rather than Killebrew. If he can't stop swinging at curve balls in the dirt he's going to have a very mediocre career at best.
It's not easy, but deGrom gets some run support and moves to 2-0. Hopefully his blister won't affect his next scheduled start. Mets actually win a series for the first time this year.
He's getting closer...he had a weird hitch that threw his timing off. GKR have gone over a few times what he's doing wrong so I'll feel like he will be okay soon. How good has Giminez been though?
Stroman opts out of the season. He got in his service time on the active roster, and will become a free agent. I wonder if they will make him a qualifying offer for next year. Anyway, what a disaster this has been. https://nypost.com/2020/08/10/marcus-stroman-becomes-second-mets-player-to-opt-out-of-season/
Troubling when Matz is your "#2" starter. All the added velo, he can't locate a FB. Not sure why he continues to try to throw 2-seamers up in the zone. He needs to pound the bottom of the zone with the FB.
Matz is one of those guys that when things don't go perfectly he implodes... he's this generations Mike Pelfry. We've all played with or against those types. They aren't around very long. I'm tired of excuse after excuse with this guy. FB leaks over the plate so he gives up long ball, slider hurts his arm, slow delivery with change up, doesn't feel comfortable throwing the curve, tipping his pitches. Grow a set already and grow up, its been 5 years of this nonsense!!!! Maybe he should swap spots with Gsellman and see what Gman can do in the rotation, I think he'd be better than Matz.
Tomas Nido follows up his 2-run HR with a grand slam on an 0-2 pitch! Six RBI day makes it 7-1. Not a very good first inning of his career for Seth Romero. Makes no sense that Peterson was taken out of the game after 5 innings giving up 0 earned runs. Hopefully there is no injury reason for it. Meanwhile McNeil left the game after crashing into the fence making a catch, so hopefully that's not an issue either.
And now deGrom is hurt and scratched from his start. Unbelievable. Back-to-back HRs for Smith and Cano.
Hamilton with the terrible decision to try for third down one run after stealing second when the ball bounces a few feet away. I know that there was only one out, but you can't go for third there unless you're sure you're going to make it.
Cano ties it up in the top of the ninth, and then Lugo gives up three hits to lose it in the bottom of the ninth. Sigh.
Everyone feels this is BS, I'm still of the belief it's Cohen's to lose...but Mets. So yeah, I hear your pain lol
I'm not one to ever say "If the team does this I'll never watch them again!", but it would be very difficult for me to root for a team owned by these clowns.
Good to see Pete bust out with 2 homers last night. Cano continues to stay hot with two HR's himself. The lineup can hit and for the most part get on base. The issue is poor hitting with ducks on the pond and starting pitching.
