A large portion of the league in terms of free agents signed short term deals this season and I'd have to imagine it was a much larger portion than normal because of the world/league circumstances.

There's been some rumored offers to Clowney that he turned down which will turn teams away from even pursuing if he's made it clear he does not want a short term deal.

Players are stubborn and want long-term security. Especially a guy as talented (although not yet reflected in his performance output) as him who has only one full season under his belt.

It would definitely be a good way to show the fan base you aren't punting on the season.

I think I'd prefer Yannick, but I have no idea what Jacksonville wants, and I dont believe he can be signed to a long term deal now.

Although Mo Wilk had a couple of decent seasons of sack numbers, the Jets have not had a true legitimate pass rush threat for almost 20 years (John Abraham):
This needs to change. I would much prefer Clowney for a 2-3 year deal than giving up draft capital for Yannick.
I do not think the league has seen Clowney’s best yet.

With 2 first rounders the next 2 years hopefully we can land a legitimate pass rusher. But that may not materialize until the 2022 season.

I don't know much about Clowney, but the price tag is high so Douglas will decline. He said he builds a team through the draft. If he make an expensive free-agent signing, it would be an addition to a highly talented team in order to progress to SB talent level.

Cimini claiming the Jets have "no interest" in signing Clowney.

Not sure where he's getting that from other than him just saying it

For the right price id love this guy. Gregg Williams would tear up offenses. But i doubt we'll get him for less than 14 million.

It shouldn’t. The only new positive is that you’d be able to roll over some more money than you would if Mosley didn’t opt out.

Totally disagree. They had the $$ before not having to pay Mosely his salary this year.
They should have an interest with Mosely healthy and playing.
Pass rush is still without a doubt the biggest deficit on this team without question.
Don’t try to sell me on Jenkins.

This team is going to be pretty bad defensively.

I was against signing Clowney, but with Mosley out, I wouldn't hate a Clowney signing. I still would like Logan Ryan signed, but maybe it's better to take their lumps this season and have better draft position next year.

We’re only gaining $6 mil with Mosley out. The point remains that signing Clowney for a year in which we are going to suck only hurts us in 2021 when we have to pay Desir, Maye, Perriman, Jenkins, Poole etc. if they all pan out. Is it really worth losing money to sign this guys for 16 games of Clowney in a bad year? I’m fine if we sign him but I absolutely understand why we wouldnt.

    What are they waiting for?

    Take a shot on him.

The team looks to be having a great camp so far, AFC East is wide open this year.

Get him into camp so he can start getting into game shape, learn the defense.

Him not being signed right now speaks volumes. Teams are probably aware that he’s a weekly DNP risk and that combined with the floated price tag is just a bad combo.

His representatives put out a rock solid, bottom line offer to all 32 teams for Clowney's services in 2020.

Upon hearing this offer, every GM laughed as they paid their tab and left the bar.

Clowney truly priced himself out of the market. At this point it's either sit out or take a 1 year deal. Really no other options. And with the protocols in place, even if he signs today, he won't be ready to join until a week later, nonetheless get up to speed, which he's already about 2 weeks behind right now.

    Absolutely right.

He's really backed himself into a corner and he's going to hurt his career if he sits out or holds out. Nothing compares to an NFL training camp or training program. Nor can you simulate hitting in pads with your training.

The track record for holdouts struggling is pretty defined.

I would not spend any significant money on bringing a player into camp now. Especially one who plays in the trenches and physical football fitness is defined by hitting. Skill position players have a better chance at being in football shape but still.
